When I Tip, You Tip, We Tip

The beta version of Veews has been a blast so far. We're learning lots and more importantly, gearing up for the 'official' release of the front end. One of the plans for Veews when it's in full launch is to allow users to veew content from all the way to the genesis block.

That brings up a problem....We have a 7 day payout window for content on the blockchain. So how can we attract new users to not only Veews but also the blockchain as a whole if everyone only has 7 days to make an impact?

We're floating around a bunch of ideas and have some cool concepts to test out, but obviously the first thing people have suggested is....Tipping!

Hive is a unique beast because our upvotes don't really come out of our pockets per se. Yes, getting the Hive power needed for those votes does, but the rewards pool feeds off the inflation on chain to reward creators and curators....Within 7 days!

But right now, there are a bunch of options out there that I think is important to remind people that...There are many ways to reward creators on the chain. I'm going to go over a few of them tonight :)

Token Tip Bots

I'm not sure exactly what term might best describe this, but I consider token tips to be projects like @hive.pizza (! PIZZA) and of course, our own tipping bot on @ctptalk (! CTP) And yes, I know, there are a lot more. But for the sake of keeping things simple, I'm not going to go over all of them.

Hive3.png

ctplogo.png

These are community based and always on layer 2. The value is derived really by the community and if people feel like they have value, welp...They do. Personally, I love getting both Pizza and CTP tips, but then again I'm pretty biased!

What's cool about these projects is that it doesn't come out of your pocket, so it works like the inflation on Hive....Kinda. You still need a minimum amount of the tipping token to spread it out, but it's a cool way for distribution and letting creators know they are valued! Simply use the ! symbol and the token name behind it in comments, and presto...You've sent a tip to someone!

Make a comment below and I'll show you what I mean....

PeakD Tips

I personally love this feature of @peakd and need to remind myself to use it more lol

eff4.png

If you are viewng content on PeakD's front end, you'll notice a little gift box on the bottom of each post....

When you press it, it'll give you the option of tipping in either liquid Hive or HBD:

ccr.png

Note: This comes out of your pocket! As this is not a tip via inflation or the rewards pool. But it's still a fantastic way to give out 'pats on the back' to creators you found valuable!

HSBI

This is still one of my favorite ways to tip creators on Hive because everyone wins when you....

Send 1 Hive (or as many as you like) to the account @steembasicincome and not only does the person you mention in the 'Memo' field get tipped, so do you!!!

HSBI.png

This is an awesome project and has really helped newer creators feel valued on chain.

BuyMeBerries

That's a link above...You should click it lol

O.K. I'm COMPLETELY new to this but it got introduced to me the other day and I thought...Wow, what a cool project!

Think of this like the old 'buy me a beer or buy me a coffee' buttons that used to be all over online forums and blogs. But here, the #bmbhome tips are in cool liquid HBD! I have not yet tried it out, but plan to search for others that have these slick little buttons on their content.

Yes, this is out of pocket, but I think it's a fantastic way to say 'thanks' or 'I appreciate you' to people on Hive.

So yeah.....

7 day payout windows can be tough, but when you dig you can see some amazing projects and tools at our fingertips! That can let creators know, we value and appreciate their efforts!

What's your favorite way to let creators on the blockchain know they are valued?

Interesting ideas! Thank you for sharing. You've always got some creative thoughts going on. 😊

The gifting mechanism also appears to be available on the Ecency end, and also appears like a gift box. I don't see it used often, but I can see how it would be a great incentive for new users if older users with a lot of HP would choose to share.

I think comments themselves hold a lot of power. Although there is a lot of financial incentive going around Hive due to the way it's built, sometimes a few good words can be worth more than anything money can buy. And I don't say this to 'virtue signal,' but from actual experience - it's real.

I think you bring up a great point and what I hoped to change with this post...Tipping, isn't really a big thing on the blockchain yet. We have all these tools, but if it's out of pocket...Not a lot of people touch it lol

Point me to a high-value post that is at least published on Hive first. I swear I will tip it right away. But it has to be of high value by modern internet metrics, not some curators' hooligans from OCD metric.

I'll show you one of my mine 🙌

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@iskafan/a-peek-into-what-super-pages-would-look-like-right-or-wrong

I hope it meets your criteria for a tip. Thanks in advance, sir.

Now, after reading that. I wonder, what is a Super Page?

0

And I'll explain.

I hope that you already know that we have #leoglossay in the Leofinance community. This Leoglossay has definitions that we could draw from.

Most importantly, it was created to serve as Backlinks. So we are encouraged to link certain keywords that appear on our posts every day. This is supposed to help with SEO ranking in the long run.

Now, a super page is a broader version of the glossary. This time the intention is to not only leave short definitions but elaborate forms. Simply put, you will have a wide range of information available on a certain keyword.

This will help us build more links around certain keywords while providing value to the readers. Of course, apart from ranking from the Backlinks, we might be able to have people visit and stay longer since the resources will provide almost everything they need.

I hope I was able to do a good job explaining this.

I absolutely love what you're doing there. And I appreciate that you invest the effort to make this understandable to me. To prove my appreciation, I do tip your answer with 10 Hive.

So here's the deal, I do want to have an honest conversation here. It took me a couple of minutes to read that Super Page and I gained nothing from it. It wasn't even entertaining. Why should that be content of value for me personally?

Back in 2011/12/13 I watch a lot of PewDiePie and as "a thanks", I also bought some merch and digital stuff he published. I was a paying Member of 3Speak in the early days, later I used Vimm a couple of times and they gave me nice technical support while setting it up - that made me sign up for a monthly 10$ for about a year. I enjoyed Tim Pool from time to time over the last years, so I bought his two singles on Apple Music. Another example is that I did read some mangas online as a young nerd, and later in life, I bought the physical books without reading them again - out of appreciation.

If I like something and enjoy it, I'll give back and I'm certain others are the same. High-value content attracts appreciation. And I'm still waiting for someone to show me content on Hive that I can appreciate from the bottom of my heart, without having to put it into context or talk it up.

I appreciate the tip, sir. Thank you so much. You made my day. 🙌

About the super page. When the idea was brought I tried to imagine what it was he was looking for.

So I created that post as a sort of question. I was indirectly, asking him if that's the kind of content he had in mind.

Coming back to your observations. Thanks for your honesty, but, what do you think I could have done or anyone reading this could do to make the super pages more interesting, and entertaining, even though we are trying to achieve a good ranking position on Google.

I'll tell you after I found the universal answer to that.

Meanwhile, I'd suggest these things out of my head. The technical details should be challenging and deep enough to reward my attention with a gain of knowledge or perspective. Some Elements of the presentation could be more graphic, to showcase certain types of data or information in an entertaining and beautiful way. The post should reference up-to-date sources, to show me its active relevance and that it's founded in credible sources who did the footwork.

Technical presentations can never be overly organized, visually as well as with columns and paragraphs there's always room for improvement. The better organized a long post looks, the easier it is to stick around till the end.

Now as a Cherrrrrrry on top, I would add some Examples of interesting happenings. Let me put one down for you. Bitmain is a China-based Company and Mining Equipment producer, now China banned Bitcoin mining and also is hunting for the former COE of Bitmain for "legal reasons". There's a lot to tell about that and dozens of articles and videos have been made in the past. You could just drop some juicy details or a hint in that direction to spice the text up.

You get what I mean?

Here we go

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@cmplxty/credit-card-strategies

I am sharing this post with you because I could relate to using cards that offer cashback and travel rewards, although, my country doesn't support credit cards yet, I do have an app that gives me cashback that I can use to make a recharge or free transfer. And it does resemble his credit card journey.

Wait, let me not give you spoilers. Go check it out. And I do hope this meets your criteria.

I do follow CmplXty myself actually :D

But no, that's not the gold standard and it's nice for you the realize that yourself. There's close to no high-profile content on this chain because the curation trails never incentive them. They are like cancer, build little echo chambers, make their own rules and start to transform the market. The Markt should be freeeeeeeeeeed, release the Kranken.

To add on that, I don't blame anybody but the failed curation tails who actively promoted bad content for years now and meanwhile scared the living hell out of anyone who made even the "slightest mistake" due to their totally nonsensical rulesets.

I believe that tips are a very good way to reward creators and that in the future they will be the way to reward par excellence.

I have a project about gaming by gamers for gamers called @gr33nsquad and in that account my wife and I plus a friend give tips in liquid Hive in small amounts to authors who have content that we think is outstanding, that has not been very well rewarded or that has already passed the 24 hour curve and it is more difficult to get any reward, now is based only on gaming, but soon could include film and music that are other of my interests and tastes.

On the other hand, I have been testing a BCH tool the "CashRain" I don't know if you have heard or tried it, it is something that we could have in Hive as a HiveRain as a way to reward readers or followers, I have been using it in my live and they have to be active to participate or at least present, I have liked it although of hundreds that are approached in reality only 5% do real interaction but the traffic is there.

Yeah we tried CashRain last month, awful results...Mainly because it was mostly bots and no follow up from the people that followed our accounts. I think you bring up a great point, something like a 'HiveRain' of some sorts might be very popular.

!CTP

Yes, it would be interesting hiveRain but not only $Hive we could make it rain second layer tokens as well, the idea is good it seems to me only that you have to put a little spice so that the rewards are not so easy for the user or viewr or follower depending on the case.

I use the tip tokens every now and then so I think it's good. At the same time, I think the 7 day window for voting has a flaw for people. If you find content older than a day, then you might suffer some curation penalties so I try to tip those posts instead.

Yeah, it would attract a lot more people to concentrate their creation efforts here if they knew, they could get rewarded past 7 days.

Would there be anyway to use ad revenue from the site to reward the posts that get the most likes?

Bring external revenue into the ecosystem and distribute it based on page views or likes? Then over time the content that is being liked a lot more would have a higher probability of appearing when people browse.

0

I think all that is very do able, especially on the second layer. We are only limited by our creativity here, I'm sure we'll see something like that soon :)

!CTP

Then I would be very excited about the impact that the app could have on the blockchain.

More reasons for content creators to create better quality posts that will last and generate likes for years to come as well as receiving tips from the site for the views that it helps to attract.

Why is there an obsession with tipping and constantly suggesting people should 'buymeberries' or a coffee or amazon wishlist or Patreon? I think many tipping services fail to be used as tipping in real life is almost an exclusive US phenomena so perhaps it will take off eventually as models of income for content creators slowly evolve and the rest of the world catches up.

I am still a huge fan of Hive SBI though as its a way of helping others and helping yourself at the same time. Perfect :-)

Interesting read and best wishes.

100% cultural. I remember going to offline events decades ago, and everyone from Europe thought it was so weird to tip anyone at a restaurant.

Hive SBI is a win for sure though, I agree!

Tips are a good option but not used too much and not because of the cost but because users sometimes go too fast and we don't even pay attention to this fact. I actively use them in my posts to reward comments.
By the way, I always learn something with you, I didn't know any of those ways of tipping.

I think the tipping bots will sound great especially if the token gradually gains in value. HSBI is very underated, it could go a long way in helping out creators because it's kind of perpetual. These two would be my favorite tipping options

The best thing about HSBI, other than it helps all parties, is that new members feel appreciated with the votes they get. Really hard when you are starting out to get traction, HSBI helps people get inspired to continue.

I think "Buy me a Coffee" is one of the good project. And if anyone implements it the right way under their content, chances are high that someone would help with that. I was thinking of trying that option. I added it on youtube channel but not much luck. I may have to try it on the footer side of the content.

I'm in !LUV with tipping since my voting power is so low, but even if it were higher I still would use tips.
I've always used the no-cost tips, but rarely use the tips that cost me. I've seen that buy me berries a few times but never looked at it, until now.

It's pretty interestig but I still probably won't use it much. I'm working hard to build my HBD & Hive so I tend not to give it away just yet.
