What Did Chris Rock Teach Me About Crypto?
I always enjoyed Chris Rock as a comedian....
One of his more famous specials was 'Bigger & Blacker' back in 1999. And a specific part of this movie, taught me everything I need to know about...Crypto!

First some context, the clip I'm talking about was on YouTube and you can watch it here:
If you don't want to watch the clip above, in a nutshell Chris talks about the 'drug industry' in health care. He explains how there is no money in curing diseases, the money is all in the treatment. He compared drug companies to every day street drug dealers and as funny as it was, there's a lot of truth to it.
But what on earth does this have to do with crypto?
This special was from 1999, Bitcoin hadn't even been conceived yet....
If you had a chance to listen to our podcast yesterday, we were talking about how the crypto industry seems to ignore Hive. And while we were going back and forth, it brought me to think about the clip above by Chris Rock.
You see....There's no money for exchanges to...Support Hive!
There's no benefit for influencers....To talk about Hive!
Think about it...
No pre-mine. No founders stake. No need for Ethereum.
If whales come in and buy it all up, everyone here gets rich because the price of the token sky rockets. They have to buy it off the markets because even if they buy 1% of the stake, there's a lot more that the community owns.
It's really a no win situation for centralized exchanges either because they can't control it.
True decentralization, while it's at the core of everything crypto stood for, is so far from a priority for the powers that be, it's not even funny.
Web 3, decentralization....All these buzz words are great on a Tweet, but then when you see an actual blockchain that is decentralized and offers true Web3 solutions....Crickets!
Remember where these snakes make their money....By controlling stake and the fees!!!
Do we really think they will ever support a blockchain with....No fees? They can't make any money lol
So bringing this back to the Chris Rock example...There's no money in offering and supporting true decentralized blockchains. The money is made from the projects they control and have the most stake in.
Remember that when an 'influencer' talks about crypto or blockchain and mentions....Web3 or decentralization. Pay VERY close attention to the talking heads on social media, that don't even have a Hive account right now. Remember all this NOW, during the bear market!
Personally, I can't wait for decentralized exchanges to take over and remove some of the power these centralized trading platforms have. I mean, that's what we are here for isn't it? True...Decentralization? Maybe?
Or are we still waiting for centralized exchanges to save us?

I get your point. Hive has not really been recognized enough. They don't want to support or buy probably because they can't control it.
Yeah we have a solid community, but waiting for someone to 'lead the charge' wont happen. We have to do it ourselves.

Very interesting analogy, I had to watch the clip before proceeding to read the article and what I picked up from Chris Rock was "the money in the treatment" and that happens to be your takeaway.
It all makes sense why we are being ignored, but it's okay and it makes me have more confidence in Hive due to our decentralized nature, we are outside their control it feels great to me.

Yeah for sure. I think my big take away is that, no one is going to 'save us' here on Hive. We will never be top of mind to the powers that be in the crypto space. So we have to build it ourselves!

I think in order to get some partial attention a lot of games, apps on Hive should only accept Hive and some stablecoin of exchange otherwise Hive will continue to remain ignored. And after some time that may not be good considering developers may move. It's as you said Pharma type of the logic going on. And we have to show some value in order to stay in the game.
Oh it'll be in house I'm sure of it, a few killer apps and the eco system ill build itself. Waiting for the 'Pharma Bros' to help out is silly lol

Those are some good points as to why those big guys ignore Hive. There isn't much they can earn from this and they are all money focused. It reminds me of how there are multiple ways to control BTC or ETH because they can collect enough mining power or crypto but Hive is a different matter. There is no easy way for them to get enough HP to even control the network.

What you explain is interesting. For me, Hive is something simple. I think it's a better product than what's out there now, and in the end, what's best and most useful prevails. The powerful always find a way to profit.

It really makes sense. There's nothing in it for them and we can't expect them to promote from the kindness of their heart lol. I also think that DEXs will gain more power in the coming years. CEXs are already standing on a shaky ground.
Binance added Hive because if they didn't, they would have looked like criminals with how they helped the Steem hostile take over. Other than that, I'm not sure why they would add Hive, they can't control it.

For huge CEXes,,, very true. No fees, no interest. But hey, that means huge opportunities for smaller business entrepreneurs building on Hive. Hive is feeless on the first layer, but on the 2nd layer or the app layer, not always or not for everything.
