One Of The Worst Ideas I've Ever Heard..

Have you heard about Chain Chatter?

That's a new weekly show on Twitter/X Spaces put on by @khaleelkazi from $LEO

And he hosted his second one this afternoon, which I had a chance to take in. It had a nice little round table of who's who on the blockchain and the topic was....Stablecoins!

=> If you haven't had a chance to check it out, be sure to give it a listen here!

Don't worry, this blog post isn't about $HBD and how awesome it is :) I'll leave that to my post from last week and of course, the above mentioned recording.

In the session though, it was brought up that there are some rumblings around the blockchain about getting rid of the 'social' aspect of Hive. I didn't get the reasoning behind it or even who was trying to make this a reality, but generally the idea is....Less social, more focus on investment tools.

It shook me.....And tonight I wanted to make a case for how that could quite possibly be the worst idea in the history of this blockchain. Let's find out why I think this way...

Hive is community. This is our single greatest asset. Before people think about fee-less transactions or decentralization, they think of the amazing communities built here on chain.

No one will ever join this blockchain because we have '3 second transaction speed', but they will join because their friends are here and part of a community!

These communities are built on chain and relationships are formed over years because....We aren't:

Wallet Address: 0X939cirh838kd892kwiwki399

For example:

If I want to talk about crypto and economics, I know to follow and chat with @taskmaster4450

If I'm interested in learning more about fitness, I can always pick the brain of @jimmy.adames

If I want to stay up to date with everything going on with the Alive project, I know @flaxz is a quick message away.

You see, you can't find this on other chains. Sure you can find experts and passionate community members about any blockchain, but the community is built on....Discord, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube.

We have the community built right into everything we do. And these are real people too. Which means, a lot of us have known each other, engaged with each other and shared our passions for years. You cannot understand how important this is!

The social aspect of the blockchain allows for us to engage with each other, right here. We don't need to stray too far away, and with projects like InLeo right now taking off, stay in contact with your community has never been easier.

And talk about impact....

Have you seen what some of these communities are doing in Venezuela? In Ghana? Around the world, like minded and passionate Hivians are always coming together and creating real chance for their communities.

Again....You just don't see this on other blockchains!

So I get it, we want smart contracts. We want all the fancy things that other chains have that will attract outside investments. But I feel like if we take away or even think about taking away what makes Hive so unique....We've lost our way!

@anomadsoul echoed this in the Chain Chatter this afternoon too, and I hope more people think like we do.

Community has been, and will always be king on Hive.

And if we forget that, we might as well delete Keychain and only use Metamask going forward....

Awesome thoughts! In Hive, the community is like its heart. Keeping the social aspect alive is super important for what makes it special and strong.

It really is. The heart of everything that is built here!

What is being built on this blockchain all mostly skews community and most folks will just move on if you take that away. It's assinine that it's even a discussion. I'm sure that the less greedy minded will stand tall with the community. !CTP

I couldn't believe it, but I do remember hearing it brought up before. Mostly the people talking like that, are the ones never actually involved with a community lol

Community is our distinction, for sure. Reblogging so my friends see this. Because community. !BBH

Back on Ste... I mean, Hive Beta, it was the idea of a censorship-resistant community based on sharing ideas that drew me in and kept me active. It's what made STEE... I mean, HIVE, more than just another shitcoin. Trying to make it just another token takes away the core of its value proposition to the market.

100% agree!

Everything that 'they' wanted to do, is turn it into every other blockchain. Hive is not without it's faults, but dang...The social element makes this place...Click.

Because people earn from posting on hive. It doesn’t mean that’s all they are here for. Yes it could be the reason they start there journey. However what cures them forward and makes them believe in the project is the community they have around them. And that’s what hive is!

I love that! I think that's so true because sure, people may learn about the rewards at first...But the community keeps them coming back

People build in and on communities. Hives downfall and success is in how communities nature the resource of relations and togetherness. Everything else should and can be developed around that, further more improving and developing what’s already there.

First there was topic of removal of rewards, then there was talk of removal of social. So they want to remove all hive frontends and keep Hive trade only? lol why would anyone invest in that? Isn't that same like tron and steem then? Whoever these people are sending inside the space and chatters to destroy hive with such discussions, I am pretty sure now those who are hodling will think twice.

Hive is alive because of rewards and community, just take that out and see the card castle fall.

It's just dumb on so many levels. It's how Hive would just become another plain blockchain with nothing unique about it.

I haven't listened to Khal's chatterchain but I'll look into it later. I do agree that there are different people talk about different things and I think community is a good reason to stick on Hive.

I don't see why it can't be both. That is the greatness of Hive that it has immense possibilities.

I just dont see how removing rewards and or social elements makes any sense.

I think community is why people stick to Hive and stay for the long term, working together towards a shared vision. It's a key pillar of what makes Hive standout from the rest.

Que bueno que aclaras todos esos puntos, Hive es Hive y será siempre una red social Blockchain, primero lo social compartir y hacer amigos luego el ámbito económico y las transacciones.

The social aspect is what keeps this blockchain alive and thriving! No social part = dead blockchain. That simple.

I feel like this is being pushed by the people who want HIVE rewards to go away. I am still not sure I understand the reasoning, but they seem to think they have some good points. I'm here until the moon or the crash to zero. The problem is if you take away the social aspect, people can't build their accounts to participate in the investment side of things.

It's very odd. But yeah there seems to be a chunk of people that just want to keep it status quo....Or not grow at all.

Any other way to listen to this before I give feedback.

getting rid of the 'social' aspect of Hive

Getting rid of or redefining?

I am not a big fan of tribes as-is. That does not mean I am not community focused cause I am. I am all for Hivers being rewarded for quality posting but the existing reward system could be improved. Can't share much else until I am able to listen to the said chain Chatter. Is there another way to listen to this chatter you referenced? !lol

Not at all, it's on Spaces. It's open to everyone.

How would you improve the reward system?

Looks like I had to login via my Google account. Not of fan of x nor Elon but I did login to listen to what you shared.

As per...

How would you improve the reward system?

Not an easy answer to that question. I'm still studying. !lol

I used to be a different rewards curve, which rewarded you depending on the 'time' you voted. If I remember it was something like 60/40 split or even more like 75/25%.....The 50/50 that we have now is a big improvement I think.

No one will ever join this blockchain because we have '3 second transaction speed', but they will join because their friends are here and part of a community!

THIS. Would love to know the witnesses who keep bringing this up so I can unvote them.

Well said. Could another hard fork happen if this idea came to fruition?

Pretty sure they would need a hard fork to do something that drastic. And I'm sure it would cause a revolt LOL

Lol. But maybe it needs to happen anyway with such a fundamental divide. Too much has been built to throw it all away.

Yeah I dont see how anyone would want to go head to head against the majority of the people who use this blockchain every day....Political suicide lol

Thanks for the mention Jon, and well said about community and social on Hive, it's really the core of what brings value to this blockchain, everything else is tools built on top of it to tokenize that social value.

I totally agree that Hive's strength is in community. It came into being because we wouldn't tolerate someone trying to own and control the community. We didn't hardfork because of 3 second feeless transactions. The community wanted the split and supported it so our community and everything else could continue as the decentralized (truly decentralized) chain it is.

I've stopped many a crypto complainer during this bear market who will get on a rant about "why would anyone invest in crypto?" with a response of "I don't have to invest in crypto, I earn it and build an investment".. I earn it through participating in a community. The investment aspect is an added bonus.

I agree that is the absolute worst idea. It is beyond me why that would even be considered.
Hope they drop it like the hot potato it is.
