On The Road To Success....

A little bit of personal development on a Sunday night from Jongo...

As many of you know, my life has taken a bit of a turn over the past month or so. Not in a bad way, in a very good way.

After years of 'thinking about it' my wife and I decided it was time for me to expand my horizons and look into a new career. Now, I'm not going anywhere, far from it. I'll be just as passionate about this blockchain and my online businesses than ever before.

However I was presented with an opportunity to dive into a new career in something I've always wanted to try....Truck driving.

Might not seem like a glorious gig, but it's something that I have always thought would be a lot of fun. I love driving and to get paid for 'seeing the country' is a no brainer to me.

So my training started about a month ago, and just recently I've been behind the wheel of some MASSIVE trucks. Volvos and Freightliners have been the two trucks I've been learning to drive and here's the thing...They are both manual transmissions.

Which means I'm essentially re-learning how to drive in my 40's lol

It's so much different than driving a manual automobile and my instructors literally told me...Forget what you know, you need to re-learn it all.

And it's been...Tough!

The first few times I got behind the wheel, I was grinding gears, almost stalling the truck on the roadways and just having a miserable experience.

My instructor obviously has seen this for years and he broke it down for me....I'm paraphrasing but this is what he taught me:

  • The first few times are going to suck. But you aren't going to crash. Just keep moving forward and learn as you go.

  • After about 10-15 hours behind the wheel, you'll start to put it all together. Upshifting to down shifting, turns and everything that goes with driving a massive truck and trailer.

  • Around half way through your drivers training you'll be VERY comfortable and be ready for your road test.

But the big thing he really hammered home to me was....It gets easier the more you do it!

Think about this for anyone on their journey here on the blockchain or building a business online.

At first...It sucks! I've had multiple experiences of things sucking when I first started out.

Back when I was building an online business, I lost hundreds of dollars and countless hours learning what was a legit online business and what was a sham....

When I first started creating content on the blockchain, I spent the first few months learning the culture here before even getting 25 cents in upvotes.

The point is, things got easier when I kept at it!

The habits were formed, the results increased and I was having a blast at my crafts. This is why guys like @taskmaster4450 and myself are screaming from the mountain tops to stick with this stuff!

I know it sucks now. But I'll give you a timeline of how things MAY go for your journey here....

  • At first, you'll get next to no comments on your blogs. And post rewards will be pennies....

  • But then you keep creating as much as you can, and engage with others on their blogs as much as you can.

  • Along the way, you power up. You delegate. You curate. You learn about Hive...

  • Then in about 6 months from now, if you are doing those things habitually....Results start to show up.

  • You get more people coming to your blog and look at that....Post payouts start to increase.

Are these guarantees?

Nah, there is none..You are an entrepreneur. However if you take my little truck driving examples, you'll start on the road and keep driving forward. Slowly, you get closer to your goals....

Just follow the speed limit and don't give up!!!

I distinctly remember you writing about starting a trucking career in one of your recent posts. Congratulations on making that important move and pursuing something that you wanted - it takes guts to do this. I hope you'll enjoy it.

And thank you for the apt comparison of improvement and seeing results over time! Nothing that's truly worth doing comes easy. 😊

Thanks. Yeah it's something I always wanted to do, but never sure how I could make it happen. Crazy how life works out.

Are truck drivers in high demand at the moment? Just curious.

Massive demand here in Alberta. The companies can't hire people fast enough.

I always figured eventually the AI powered driverless trucks would takeover at some point.

Yeah, I'm no expert on how soon that'll be but the majority of the guys I have talked to in trucking think it's at least 5-10 years out before we see any big change. I don't want to do this for 20 years, just wanna give it a try and keep building online :)

Sounds like a good plan. I've always thought trucking would be kinda cool.

almost stalling the truck on the roadways and just having a miserable experience

Lol, I remember that miserable experience of learning how to drive, stalling a car is what I hated most. I doff my hat for you in going for truck driving, I've always wondered how it is to drive that monster.
The beauty is you will travel a lot and it will expose your country to you more.

About our journey on Hive, this is a nice way to put it as we all don't start up driving in the fast lane, we drive slowing behind the truck and can't overtake until we grow in confidence and better skill to do so and in a similar way it is the same for Hive.

Great way to look at it for sure!

It's actually pretty comfortable once you start driving and getting a feel for how it acts on the roads. Surprising lol

It gets better, slowly but surely. At first, nothing seems to work. YOu try it all, to stick out and get noticed...But slowly, people do. And your results increase. But there just isn't any quick way to do it. I've tried LOL

Dear @jongolson, I was very excited when I started reading your post. I love driving too, I can say that it is one of my hobbies, I really enjoy being behind the wheel.

I have had the pleasure of traveling the main highways, highways and roads of each of the 23 states that make up my beautiful country.

Learning something new always brings with it a huge load of mixed emotions that will positively nourish our whole being. Even more so when it comes to driving trucks with trailers.

The contrast, which you do very well, between the experience in Hive Blog and learning to drive trucks, and which can be said applies to any other type of venture, will always be subject to that extra dose of patience, polishing content, dedication, perseverance and enjoy what you do.

Thank you very much for sharing such motivating and instructive content, good luck and happy journey!

Patience is the key word for sure. Because we all don't get it right away, it takes time to build those habits, no matter what we are working towards.

Wow! I am secretly envious. Always wanted to be a trucker. At least part-time. Driving can be both terrifying and therapeutic.

You gonna have a Hive logo painted on the cab door? :-)

You are successful man just because you are on hive platform. I'm trying my level best to interact with as many people as I can. posting 40+ comments on the daily basis.

Great that you've begun your training and are learning new experiences :)

The most difficulty is always in the beginning. There's the lack of knowledge that makes everything you do suck! But if you're willing to learn and persevere, things will get better over time. That's how I see the Hive journey, learn and implement.

It's difficult and it's scary for a lot of people that are starting out. Beating a dead horse here, but when you stick with things, it improves.

Some of these feelings are mutual. It does really gets difficult to deal with but I must admit, these feelings have made me who I am today. I can literally use all the learnings in my real life and use them wisely to move forward.

come in if it was that easy, eveybody would have done it.

While all the best in your new career, i wish nothing but success on your path!

It's always the hardest at the start when you need to learn everything. At some point, I just show up every single day and it has worked out quite well so far on Hive.

I can't imagine myself driving in Canada snow. I mean the roads with all that snow. But good luck to your training man. I am sure you do good over there. On the success I recently realized how LEO has been a good place to start anyone for finding a content to comment. :)

Trucks do pretty good in snow, because of how heavy they are. But then again, I've been driving in this madness all my life lol

A buddy of mine just started doing something slightly similar, in that he's driving into the U.S. to pick up RV Trailers and bring them back to Saskatchewan/Alberta for sale at various dealerships. Sounds like he enjoys it, and it's apparently pretty good pay. Like with anything new though, it sounds like he had a few points where his prior experience using trailers for camping and such didn't quite give a full view of what taking one on such a long drive over such a wide variety of road types would be like.

When I started driving, that's one of the things they asked...If I had any experience at all hauling trailers and RVs lol
