Document Everything!

I wanted to spend a few minutes tonight to talk about...Content!

You see, I may not admit it, but I suppose I'm what you would call a content creator. Now let me be clear on something, I'm most definitely not what you would call a Pulitzer Prize winning author by any stretch. Heck, I struggle at some of the more basic things when it comes to writing.

My sentences are never structured properly. My paragraphs might be too short or too long....And what's with all those silly periods I use?

.... <------

See what I mean???

But I have a passion for building businesses online and a passion for building on the blockchain!

It feeds me. Fires me up. Helps me get motivated anytime I might feel lukewarm about creating on any given day.

Passion is a key word there but what I really wanted to talk about tonight was a lesson I learned years ago from one of the biggest names in social media....

...You may have heard of him, his name is Gary Vaynerchuk.

He's a big deal in the social media space and about a decade or more ago I read his first book 'Crush It' where he speaks about the passion you need to build anything online. And while it's fantastic advice, I was taken by something else he mentioned all those years ago...

One of Gary's most famous pieces of advice is to 'document everything'.

His suggestion is that whatever business you are trying to build, you should become the guinea pig, try things out, test it all, poke around but always...Document it!

Let people see your wins, your failures and your journey each and every day.

That advice makes sense to me because I've always thought people do business with those they know, like and trust. Most of us aren't sitting on our laptops or scrolling on our phones in a suit and tie. So when we document things, we show others that we are real people...Not 'professional suits' for a faceless corporation.

The idea of documenting everything helps build relationships with others because they see your faults. When you show people things that may have worked, but more importantly things that didn't...You strengthen that relationship.

Tomorrow night I'll be firing up #MyHiveGoals my weekly dive into my journey here on Hive. I do these posts for a few reasons, one to keep me on track and focused on my goals. But the bigger reason is to show others what I'm doing and if it's working or not.

I have a goal of hitting 100 Hive each and every day on the blockchain. A big, bold and crazy goal...And most of the weeks on Hive, I don't hit half of what I want to reach. Is that a big fat L for loss?

I don't think so...I think it's my journey and I'm documenting it all. If I don't hit a goal, I don't lie about it, I share it. If I do hit the goal, I'm pumped up. But no matter what, I'll share it with others.

So if you are looking for an idea or two, and get stuck on what to write about on Hive....

Share your journey!

Document everything and show the blockchain your wins but also your losses!

If nothing else, you'll be able to see where you are and down the road, where you have reached in your journey.

It's powerful stuff and there's no better place to share it than with the amazing members of the Hive community.

Let's go Jongo! :) Doing that type of posts about your goals is also manifestation and sending vibes to the universe about what you want. Very good practice.

I'm sitting here thinking the same applies to actual coding, as in, comments in code.

In my apps I "document everything" via info panels that help me remember, and for users to become acquainted without a separate guide. Things like parameters, cutrent stats, etc, like here in one of my Hive API front-ends:

Your article is wonderful, as it encourages me to document in the form of writing about the journey itself. I'm good at code documentation, but my public documentation skills I'd like to improve on much more this year.

Oh wow, thats something I would have loved to get into when it comes to building documentation for our apps. It would have helped the non-techs like me figure things out lol

Yes. I have been doing the AI tool roundup lately, everyday I learn about new AI tool and document about it's usage and the experience. Not only this keeps me writing daily but also if I look at that content after one year, it would help others and even help myself understand how I learned about AI tools over a period of time, so that learning experience becomes documentation in a Hive post.

In short it's an option to get rid of the writers block :)

Absolutely! I think you will always have content when you share what you are learning or doing on chain!

There are many times and idea will come to your head and the best thing you can do is to document it so that you will not forget

Cheers man! I am here for that! Good luck with your goal of 100HP a week.

Yes its bold and crazy. But you've been taking it in on the way there every day now. Sometimes closer, sometimes further away, but always moving!

It doesn't always happen, and I think it's only happened one week in my life...But I still am grateful for 1 HP a day :)

I think it's a pretty good thing to do and I like seeing the progress over time. I try to make sure that I make the milestones and I have been doing a better job documenting things on my crypto journey.

For sure. And here on the chain you just have a portfolio of content, to always see how you have progressed.

It's a great material to look back on and see how far you've come. And you also build authenticity and people are able to relate with you more. Building in public is not easy but it can be worthwhile and fulfilling.

Exactly!

And people always like real humans when it comes to this stuff.

That’s a solid goal and indeed would be great to achieve but I think it’s important to document the journey so that we can all see your progress and have it be a motivator to help our own journey.

I’d not thought of it that way but I do like that notion and it does make things more authentic if you document it!

Documenting is a great way to build knowledge. There are many ways to build documentation techniques that alllows you to capture a lot of detail without a lot of writing. For example, anyone here know of shorthand typing?

Over the years I kept logbooks of my daily activities. Sometimes it just looked like doodling but informative just the same when I reviewed the material at a later time.

Reading out loud what you have documented is also very effective in learning and long term memory retension.

We learn more from others than we learn fom ourselves so by all means, everyone, share your thoughts and deliverables. Set targets, KPI's, goals and implement good measures. I don't overly focus on a target number as much as I do on the process that get's me to that number.

Wishing everyone the best in their journey.

Something I have had on my desk for decades...A pad of paper, just for that purpose. Writing everything down, ideas etc.

I have a couple of projects going on and I'm documenting everything, taking notes all the time, etc. I wonder why it didn't occur to me that I could put all that in the form of a post...and add those Ws and Ls - right here on Hive.

Thank you very much for the inspiration!

That is good advice, Jon.
Documenting wins and losses do make you more personable and human-like.

You're are definitely amazing, even if you're not seeing yourself as a good content creator here, but most of us who followed you closely appreciate your works and get inspired, especially via your weekly goals content
