A Different View On Competition

This may be a very odd blog post and article about building online businesses....

I wanted to spend a few minutes to talk about, competition!

You see, as an entrepreneur, you are taught to 'fight' competition. It's everywhere in all training lessons and articles you will read, that your competition is always looking to out do you.

As as a business owner, you should be always looking at your 'S.W.O.T. Analysis'! Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Basically....What what your competition is doing, and out do them!

And there is a lot of truth to that....

We should always be looking out for these things. Always trying to improve and always looking to get better. I think that's one of the greatest strengths an entrepreneur possesses....

The desire to always be better tomorrow!

But I wanted to switch things up a bit...And maybe it's because my online businesses have gone through some major changes over the years, and I view things differently.

To me, I think there is enough for everyone!

I think it's called an abundance mindset, and it's something I really believe I've started to adopt.

In crypto, we're taught...There's only 21 million bitcoin...Make sure you get as much as you can now!

In business, we're taught...There can only be one winner.

Everywhere you look, what is taught and what is reality seems to differ....

To me, there's plenty of fantastic opportunities in crypto, it's not just bitcoin. In business, there are plenty of opportunities, you don't need to worry about missing out every day.

And the other thing I've really embraced is the joy, the true joy, of seeing other people win.

Yes, I actually like seeing my 'competition' win! I'm happy for anyone that finds success in something they have a deep passion for, and 9 times out of 10, these people could be considered....My competition.

Right here on the blockchain, I see the top authors each and every month on Hive and I'm happy for them. It's amazing to me to see content creators being rewarded for their passion and I want to see more of it!

So yeah....You can look at the world as your competition. And you can think you are missing out each and every day. Or you can embrace the abundance mindset, and know that there is plenty of pie to share for anyone that wants to put in the effort!

We’ve created this mantra that competition is the only thing you have to be aware of without even trying to become better on your own. As long as we can surpass the competition we think that’s all we’ll ever need but that’s not always the case.

I agree with you that having the abundance mentality can be a very good mindset to help us not overthink too much about our competition and instead use that energy to focus on ourselves to be able to keep growing and learning every single day, even if it’s 1% growth. When this is done consistently we are sure to be above the competition in the long haul.

We can always enjoy being happy for others who also have been able to attain admirable amount of success.
However this is lacking in In many industries today due to scarcity being blabed about more in the media without understanding that there is enough for everyone in the market.

Many push too far and overwork ourselves due to trying to compete with others which should not be so. Thanka for sharing this

I hope work is going great and how’s your knee feeling now? hope the meds have been helpful

Indeed a great post. I do agree that there are so many opportunities for everyone and we always should be happy for others when they are winning

Just a way to look at it, bigger picture and not looking at everyone 'taking' your potential rewards.

There are definitely opportunities for everyone here on the blockchain and there are a lot of good authors here on Hive. They are a role model that we should follow and the best thing is that they tend to show up every single day.

Abundance concept does work on internet and internet income. But in real life there is a lot of competition, if we keep attitude of there is enough for everyone we would be thrown off by the competition in real life. That's what I have observed so far.

Oh absolutely. It's everywhere, but I use it to push myself as well...Knowing, I won't win it all, but if I'm better than I was the day before...I'm growing.

nice perspective. I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about Hive and she mentioned she stopped writing because she felt she wasn't appreciated enough esp when compared to other people in her community who were doing subpar work. I encouraged her to focus more on what she was doing as long as she was winning as well. It is not necessarily a competition. You cannot let other people's success stop your success.

Oh man, it's so easy to compare ourselves right...This person or that person got more votes...It'll drive you nuts. We just need to focus on what we are doing every day, it;'ll all work out.

An abundance mindset is something everyone should thrive for, at least in the crypto space. But it applies in other domains too, like the abundance the tech sector in general creates.

I believe we will see more and more examples of abundance instead of scarcity in the future and mindsets will evolve accordingly.

This kicked off some thoughts on how many businesses are built on having something unique or different from others. Once that is lost, they need to adapt or go out of business. But if you look at simple businesses, like cutting hair, cutting grass, maintenance, these are perpetual businesses. They don't scale, mind you. But those businesses are always working. Lawncare businesses come and go. The grass still grows.
