WEB3: Empowering Data Privacy and Control in a Decentralized World

Initially, it was BoomPlay, followed by YouTube, and now Netflix has done it. Done what?

Recommending videos based on my thoughts. It's almost as though they are using witchcraft because I can't explain how I had cracked my brain so hard trying to remember the name of the movie around a drug kingpin and this afternoon when I opened my Netflix account, the movie recommendation was staring at me in the face.

I have to swear, I did not discuss this with anyone nor did I do any searches related to it, except of course, watching Queen of the South for a few days now. But don't tell me it's because of the present movie I am seeing because Netflix could have recommended a completely different drug or cartel movie but how they managed to give me the exact recommendation still scares the hell out of me.

The fact that our data has been breached and sold out to different advisers is not new. It's something we've all been told and could testify that it's happening to us especially when we see recommendations that meet our present desires. This is something that has become prevalent with WEB2 and again it's not new anymore. It seems as though we know they are selling our data but we are okay with it.

In all amount of sincerity, I was glad to find that movie recommendation. It saved me from having to send a message to someone I haven't talked to for a while. In short, Netflix does this without second thoughts. I remember the week I had so many questions over something and I slept with those thoughts and woke up to a movie recommendation that had all the answers that I wanted. I did not know whether to be happy or scared.

I know you'll tell me to take the second option and you will be right. This is the point where we should be scared. The fact that even our thoughts are no longer safe between us should make us panic. In the cartel movies I watch, I saw how much they value their privacy and how a single mistake as having an online profile could be the thin line between dying and living.

Yet, we normal people do not care about our safety. We speak about some of the things that should be confidential online and we do not try to hide some important details. A lot of us think we are impressing the next person by disclosing these things without knowing that we are digging our graves.

Thank goodness for WEB3, as more and more people embrace Blockchain technology, the safer we all will be. We will no longer allow the WEB2 platforms to access our data and use them to monitor our activities or even put us at different risks. We will be the ones who decide who we share things with and mostly get rewarded for that.

Our data will be ours to sell through decentralized networks that guarantee our safety from the prying eye of the public. We will have more control over our data and they will be mostly encrypted across a network of nodes, and less prone to be breached.

Having both private keys and public keys for instance shows how much Blockchain seeks to make sure we are protected. We can always share the public keys with trusted people while the Private ones stay Private.

Right now we are seeing more and more development in the WEB3 technologies and we are looking forward to when it will be widely adopted so more people can access all of the benefits provided by decentralization.
