Exploring OpenHive and Buying My First-Ever Punks On Hive

(Edited)

Did you know or ever visited OpenHive on TribalDex before? Or you are like me who uses the exchange to trade HE tokens once in a while but never really goes further than that?

Funny you would say.

What is OpenHive on TribalDex for?

Per the tagline, it is the largest NFT marketplace of Hive¹. Accordingly, it also allows communities, developers or users to create custom tokens, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), and smart contracts. Aside from that, one can explore, buy, sell, or manage acquired collections.

I wanted to test how it is to create and found out that one needs to pay a one-time fee of 100 BEE tokens. Obviously, I couldn't check further but at least we got the idea.

So I explored the collectibles with the thought of finding something to my liking. I have never really done that before so it was quite an exciting experience. Was surprised to see that even Rising Star cards were there when all I thought was that they can only be seen on the RS platform or on the NFTMart, lol! That just goes to show that no matter how long we spend in this space, there are things yet to see and learn.

Anyhow, after a brief check of what collections were available, I spent more time browsing the Punks on Hive and was adding this or that to my cart with the purpose of comparing them (attributes, rarity, price, etc) before finally deciding which one to pay for.

Visiting the punks site made me find out that some months ago, a lot of the Punks were selling so cheaply at 2 and 3 HIVE. Yep! It made me wish I visited the market earlier then I may have gotten some really good deals.

The thing is that there is no utility for the punks yet, well except for the ability to set it as an avatar here on Hive, and it is labeled as an NFT when viewing on the PeakD frontend. What is good is that some, especially the lower-priced ones (with lower rarity scores) are being traded based on the market history. At least I see that they are still exchanging hands.

The Search

I was not able to buy one on that same day. Then yesterday, I continued exploring to find a piece that I could own. I already had something in mind but the price tag of 799 HIVE made me dismiss the idea.

To avoid overspending, I had to set a limit to my budget. Next was comparing those that are within the price bracket and considering their rarity as well, including the overall aesthetic. I prefer a female character because my purpose was to use it as my new PFP. I spent a good amount of time checking this or that to the point that my eyes were already hurting.

Until I found her!

Meet Irene Evans. That orange-haired Optician Lady PUNK.

My first-ever #HivePunks and what better way to utilize it than to flaunt it by using it as my Hive avatar, haha! It has a rarity score of 319 (the lowest score I encountered was 80+ and some were even pricier).

Her price tag?

Not so much, 45 Swap.HIVE (around 15 HBD). I said there won't be any shopping on Black Friday but I think this was an exception, lol!

Thoughts

OpenHive offers an extensive variety of collections (17 in total as of this writing), showcasing amazing artworks and more. I didn't even know I had some dCity NFTs until I explored the market.

Although the marketplace had dropdown filters, I did wish it had a search function that made finding something easier and faster without having to explore the pages one by one. Nevertheless, this experience in buying an NFT was smooth and fast which lives up to one of Hive's core features as a fast blockchain.

It will be nice if the Punks have more use cases in the future like staking abilities or whatever they can be utilized further other than being used as profile avatars.

For infotainment only.

Yes, I visited but never bought or sold any time.

So finally you bought a new NFT and changed your profile picture. But honestly I liked the past profile picture more than the current one.

That is good to hear. At least you checked it out :)

And thanks for the honest remarks. I do like my previous avatar too which is an SLP-based NFT but figured a change wouldn't hurt hehe.

I hold over 15 punks and there is not much development here but hopefully, things will be better. Its a great project on a hive with more potential.

Wow! That's awesome! It will be nice indeed if there will be further developments on it. I think the NFT market still has a great potential.

I have one when it is just being open for minting. I think my rarity score is not that great. Not sure how much is the floor price at the moment.

Maybe I will wait for the new development for hivepunk before I decide what to do next for my hivepunk. : )

It's nice that you got one during the minting. I only heard about it in early 2022 but haven't really checked the market. The cheapest I saw is 20 HIVE if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, the minting price was 20 HIVE back then and it was a frenzy. hahah

Oh. Was surprised that some sold them for 2 to 20 HIVE when the minting price was like that.

Mura na nga. Medyo di ko na pinapansin NFTs ngayon. Hindi na sya kasing sikat tulad dati. Unless merong mga airdrop na kailangan magmint ng NFT sa Galxe, etc.

That's true.

Reminds me of my Mr. Orange. 😆 !LOLZ

First time to click OpenHive. Reminds me of NFT Showroom.

I saw one that caught my attention, but when I clicked it, the site started to slow down again. When I refreshed, I could not find that NFT. The name is "Easy Mind".

Haha yeah. Your Mr. Orange :)

I read yesterday that some nodes are having issues so changing it will help (at least on Tribaldex). I like that, "Easy Mind". Sounds interesting. Let me check it out.

The NFT's color is close to orange; it's gold.
