Wednesday Walk - around the Cammo Estate

I went out for a nice walk around the Cammo Estate on the edge of Edinburgh last night. It was a lovely evening, and a great way to relax a little.

We'd had a little rainfall during the last few days so the greenery was looking rather lush.

The farmer has recently plowed and planted the fields around the Estate, and I was admiring his work - nice straight lines !!!

I walked out past Cammo tower, which is an old folly. Its ruined inside, and you cant get access into to. Its pretty though.

I continued past the tower and up the small hill beside it to get a nice view back from where I'd come. It was quite warm, and it stayed dry even if the clouds were looking a little threatening in places.

These wild flowers/weeds were standing as tall as me (I'm 6'1''), so are certainly thriving nicely.

I also spotted these small pretty purple wild flowers further along the route I took.

I went passed the old walled garden on the estate. These were the old main gates into the garden. It must have been pretty impressive at one point, although is now a ruin and overgrown.

According to the info board there the walled garden was built back in 1780 !

Thats the old fire place in the gardeners hut to the side of the gates.

I little further along, I spotted this freshly cut stump from one of the old trees here. Being an old private estate, there are a lot of impressive large old trees around. Some of those are getting too old and a little dangerous, so you often see where they have been recently cut down. Its better than having huge limbs, or trunks falling and killing someone.

It really was a nice evening for a walk, and I was glad I made the effort to get out.

All the best from Scotland. Cheers @hoosie

Lovely views ! But those pretty flowers... yeah, that might just be giant hogweed. It could be native hogweed ( a slightly safer relative). Apart from the height (which you won't know until fully grown) and flowering season (which overlaps right about now...), it's possible to tell by the leaves - giant hogweed is more jagged with pointed leaf tips, native hogweed has broader more rounded leaves.

If it's the giant version the sap is a super-alkaloid. If you brush against it and get any of the sap on your skin, it'll burn like you wouldn't believe, leaving long-lasting blisters, photosensitivity and possible permanent scarring. Get it into your eyes, and it's off to A&E in a big hurry.

It's still pretty, though 😀

I'm quite familiar with giant hogweed and its dangers. The tall plant I showed was not it. It was a heck of a lot thinner and more delicate. However, there is actually quite a lot of Giant Hog Weed on that estate and the river walk next to it. The river walk in particular has quite a lot of it further up, and it looks pretty impressive when you see it in a big path - it looks rather Jurassic !

It still looks quite impressive to me. Probably because we don't have anything quite the old here! What a beautiful walk!

Its a nice estate - lots of different paths to take, with lots to see. Plus only 10mins from the house !

That's a very peaceful evening stroll bro. The Cammo Estate looks beautiful, especially with the fresh greenery and historic touches like the old tower and walled garden. It's lovely to explore such places in good weather. Would absolutely love to visit here bro
