Saturday Savers Club Progress week 4 - Powered up 130 HP and bought my first EDSD

avatar

Its week 4 (27/01/24) of my savings focus for 2024 with the Saturday Savers Club which is a great Hive community initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account.

My goals for this year are:

  • Primary goal - to increase my HP by 7500, to 18500 HP,
  • Secondary goal - to increase my HP delegation to @eds-vote by 1000 HP, to 3000 HP (because I want to accumulate more of the EDS token).

I will also be continuing to increase my holding of investment tokens, and delegating HP to a number of good community curation accounts as well.

This weeks pic - We live quite close to Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, where Scotland plays its international rugby matches. I took this pic of it while walking past the other day. It gets quite exciting at this time of year (if you like rugby) because the 6 Nations competition starts up very soon (next weekend I think) where we compete against England, Wales, Ireland, France and Italy. In our house its a big deal because I'm Scottish, my wife is Welsh and our daughter was born in England (but she considers herself Scottish/Welsh) ! So we have a fair bit of rivalry between us. Plus there is a real buzz in the city during one of the 6 Nations game when Scotland are playing at home - so heres looking forward to rugby season for the next month or so !!!

Weekly Stats

Weekly commentary

  • HP Gain: I gained +130 HP during the week mostly from a nice payout from a travel post (which is something I really enjoy doing and posting about). I'm always happy with any weekly HP gain over 100 - so I cant complain,
  • HP Passive: 16.42 of my HP gain this week came from curation (not really passive) and HP APR. Its great to see this making such a difference each week now that my HP stack is that bit higher. This alone is quite a nice incentive to keep stacking HP,
  • HP goal: My HP total now stands at 11303 HP and I need a further 7197 HP to hit my primary goal of 18500 HP. At 48 weeks to go, that requires 148 per week (about the same as last week), which is pretty steep and will be quite a challenge,
  • HP delegation to @eds-vote: My HP delegation to @eds-vote increased by +6HP to 2041 HP. I need to delegate another 959 to hit my secondary target to raise my total delegation to 3000 HP. That will require an average of 19.8 HP delegated per week to hit it, which I should achieve,
  • HP delegation to curation accounts: I delegated another +6 HP to @curangel to bring that total to 131. The aim to to take that to 250 HP - its getting there !,
  • HP delegation to curation accounts: The main aim of these community delegations is to support these great curation accounts that have certainly helped me along the way to where I am now, but I'm also getting nice daily drips of HIVE as a result from @ocdb, @qurator and @curangel as they pass on their curation income to delegators, which is a nice little bonus !
I tend to reinvest those HIVE drips from the curation accounts back into my HBD:HIVE trading fund, giving a nice little synergy to growing another income stream,
  • EDS: I gained +1.96 EDS. My 2041 HP delegation to @eds-vote brought in +1.66 EDS this week (same as last week) and the rest was from the mining lottery for holding EDSMMs (I have 146 of those). I selected increasing my delegation to @eds-vote as my secondary goal as I'm really keen to keep accumulating EDS, and focusing on the HP delegation works well with my primary goal of increasing my HP total,
  • EDSD: I started buying into EDSD this week with an initial purchase of 5. I have set a goal to gain 50 this year, although might increase that to 100 - I'll have to see how its going and what the price of HIVE is doing (if it rises above $0.50, then I'm likely to dump more HBD into EDSD). I'm doing this as it will also add more EDS to my stack each week,
  • DAB: I gained +1.32 DAB this week, taking my total to 54.6 DAB. This weeks gain was quite a bit lower than normal, but I guess thats how the mining lottery goes - some weeks you do well, others not so much (noting that I had my best ever weekly gain last week),
  • DBOND: I gained +2 DBOND taking my total to 726. I'm happy to see it continue to go steadily up, even if its just by 2 per week,
  • DRIP: I gained +1 DRIP this week, taking my total to 107, which is a result of the daily passive gains over the week from staking the DRIP I already have,
  • HBD:HIVE Trading: The price of HIVE dropped quite a bit this week, and went below my trading range. Its currently sitting at $0.313, and my lowest buy is at $0.33 - so its got a bit to go before my trading will kick in again. However, I did set up 2 new trading pots this week - one to extend my low range trading (the trade that is at $0.33) and another up at $0.358 to fill a gap in the trading range I had, noting that there has been a lot of activity around that price in recent months. They are both small value pots (just a few HBD worth each) - but they will grow over time, with each trade, which is the goal with this. So I did get 2 trades (the initial HBD sells to set up those two new trading pots), but I had zero gains this week due to a lack of any other trades going through.

Plan for the coming week

  • Regular Posting: To continue to make sure I post daily/regularly to ensure daily HBD and HIVE author rewards (although I havent been managing this since the start of the year, so I need to get back into the rhythm),
  • Curation: To be active in HIVE Blog curation to help with HIVE curation rewards,
  • Undelegated HP: To continue to increase undelegated HP in order to improve HIVE curation rewards,
  • HBD:HIVE trading: To continue with HBD:HIVE trading. I'll continue to add additional funds (in small amounts) to my trading capital each week, in the active trading range, which will help grow the gains over the long term (albeit slowly). I do this by adding any HIVE/HBD drips I get landing in my Hive Wallet from things like curation. When a trade goes through, I then just add any amount left in the wallet from those drips into the next flip trade when I set it up - this method has been working nicely to help slowly grow my trading fund in the active trading range, which is great,
  • HP delegation to @eds-vote: This weeks delegation of 10% of my weekly HP income to @eds-vote will add a further 13 HP,
  • HP delegation to curation accounts: This weeks delegation of 10% of my weekly HP income to community curation accounts will add a further 13 HP to my @curangel delegation.
  • EDSD: I'll be aiming to buy 1-2 EDSD per week so that the stack builds up over time, although it really does depend on how much rewards I get from my posting activity as I want to make sure I'm still powering up enough HP each week to stay on track for my annual HP goal.

Summary

In summary, it was a great week. A gain of 130 HP is very nice and it was great to finally get some EDSD added to my stack.

My Tribe Token Investment Project

My experiment with 8 different tribe tokens on my alt account @hoosieboy is moving along nicely. The experiment is designed to grow semi-passively via staking, curation, posting and rebalancing - in a way where the methods should work together and add constructively. Everything gets re-invested back into curation accounts for the same 8 tribe tokens, so it also provides a positive boost to those tribes.

I undertook my latest rebalance on tuesday. The total basket value increased which is good (even if it was only by a small amount), but the key thing is that the total number of tokens keeps in creasing. Its great to see the various methods of curation, posting, staking and rebalancing all working in tandem. You can check out my latest rebalance post on my @hoosieboy alt account here.

And as a reminder:

  • Hive Power UP Day (HPUD) is next Thursday (1st of Feb) - can you believe its nearly February already !,
  • This weeks Savers of the Week post went live on friday (here). The awards for those selected are quite nice now ! We are looking for inciteful content that shows how you are saving, growing and investing. Each of the 4 nominees gets 15% of the notification post payout and 4 HSBIs - so it can work out as a nice little boost to all selected ! So make sure you are creating your weekly savings posts, and tagging them in the comments of the weekly post from susie-saver on the @eddie-earner account - you've got a very good chance of getting selected !

Very nice work ! That HP gain is impressive, it's at a level I can't even dream of 😀 But I like your way of dripping extra delegation to @eds.vote rather than doing a lump sum each HPUD, I might have to start doing that.

The drip method based on a percentage of what I bring in that week works well for me because I'm keen to increase my delegation, but I dont want to impact my curation earnings (voting power - because I want my curation and HP APR rewards to be increasing each week too).

I wanna try rugby some day, it's not popular or haven't seen anyone playing that here so far but it seems fun.. that's a nice picture tho!

You had a really productive week to be honest.. in the next coming week's I also have plans to delegate HP to other communities.. still dipping my toes in eds.

Many thanks ! Rugby is quite popular here in the UK - and seeing an international match in a full stadium is pretty epic !
I quite like delegating HP - you are not loosing it, just loaning out the power, and mostly get something back in return for it - whats not too like !

Good work @hoosie. 🫡 I liked this ...

"I started buying into EDSD this week with an initial purchase of 5 ..."

... as I share youre interest in this newest member of the SPI "family." I think it is better to hold than HBD, but ... Still working on deciding that. At least we all know we can convert ESDSD back to HBD at any time, if for some reason we choose not to invest in them anymore.

That is huge in the "Hotel California" realm of most of Hive's L2 tokens ...

I'm keen to grow my EDS total, so hence it made sense to start buying some EDSD, and as you point out, you can simply convert back to HBD if needed, so thats a positive point for investing in the token.
