One Of Those Days

Yesterday was one of those days when everything didn't go as planned. It started as a promising morning with the sun high in the sky and a sense of relaxation in the air. My partner didn't have to work. Our car had to go to the garage for the annual MOT inspection, so because we had dropped off the car early in the morning, we had plenty of time to enjoy the day.

After dropping off the car, we returned home waiting for the redeeming phone call from the garage. And of course, we hoped for good news, without a huge bill. But when the call came much earlier than expected, the rush was on. We wanted to pick up the car quickly and enjoy the beautiful weather with our Skipper. We decided that we would go out with him sometime.

Tripping over a branch

But then again, haste is rarely good. While I was taking Skipper for a quick walk, I tripped over a branch and hit my face against a huge oak tree. Result? A large wound just above my lip and on the inside of my lip. Just say a torn lip. My partner came running to me, worried. Along the way, shouting "Are you okay?" as I stood there, bleeding like a bovine, trying to answer his question if everything was okay. Spoiler alert: it wasn't okay!

Needing Help

Back home we had to dress the wound and decide what to do. After rinsing the wound we were able to take a quick look at it. And we saw, hmmm, that needs more help. So after applying a plaster, we could go to the garage to get the car, and then straight to the doctor. Fortunately, the bill at the car garage was not too bad and the car had a new MOT inspection for another year. A small bright spot on this suddenly not-so-great day.

Emergency Room

At the GP I was given a Tetanus injection and it soon became apparent that I had to go to the emergency room for further treatment. The wait was long, but eventually, I was examined by a surgeon. With several people watching, I felt nervous for a moment. But luckily the surgeon decided that the inside of my lip did not need to be stitched, and the outside did not need to be stitched either but could be glued. Taking care of the wound and gluing it took less than 5 minutes, and we had been waiting for more than 3 hours in total. Travel time to the GP and emergency care included. Anyway, it was clear to me that I had felt better at some point.

Skipper Was Happy That We Were Back Home

Once we got home, the day that started so well turned out very differently than hoped. The day was just fucked. Skipper was happy that we were finally home, but in this condition, I didn't feel the need to leave with him anymore. Poor boy, he didn't mean anything bad, he was just happy. And now he had no distractions at all. I couldn't even think about eating and settled for a glass of water through a straw, with a few painkillers before going to bed. I thought sleeping was the best thing I could do. Tomorrow I would see how I felt. It was enough for now.

It´s Life

So yeah, yesterday didn't go as planned. But hey, sometimes those are the days that stick with you. And Skipper? In the end, he still had his walk, although not by me, but by my partner, and also a little later than planned. What can I say? Life is full of surprises. And trees. And happy dogs that make you trip over branches. But hey, it's all part of life after all, right?

Sucks that the good thing of the day (the lower bill and car approved) had to be overshadowed by this event.. I hope all heals well and that you feel better soon!

Yeah, it sucks, that's for sure. I've been through shit like this before, but it was so long ago (thankfully) that I couldn't remember feeling this miserable before. So now rest a lot, and hope that it will heal quickly.

Thank you! I don't know if it was a sign that I needed to give myself more rest, but if it was, I'm listening to it very carefully now. It's been a long time since I slept and rested so much in a day.

I'm sorry to hear about your rough day! It's important to prioritize your health, so it's good that you went to see a doctor after the accident. Remember to take it easy and allow yourself time to heal properly. Sometimes, unexpected events can throw us off course, but it's important to stay resilient and focus on finding those small bright spots, like the positive outcome with your car. Take care of yourself!
