I am a doctor. Besides, getting a monthly salary, I am getting something else from my dealings with the patients. Constant reminders!! Their illnesses remind me how blessed I am! Their stories increase my gratefulness/gratitude to my Creator!

A story, as a Reminder

On Saturday morning, a Bangladeshi male person visited me. It was a somewhat exceptional case for me and interesting as well. I attributed him as a “male person” instead of a “male patient” because he wasn’t a sick person. He came for help, from a Bangladeshi doctor, even though it was not a GP case!

I don’t know the details and I didn’t ask. The person, who works in an Omani house, got married to a Bangladeshi housemaid who works in the same household. It is a rare case but somehow their sponsor arranged it. All were working fine until she missed her period this time! It was a good intention and work by the sponsor (to marry them) but nobody wants a pregnant housemaid, even though it was (the housemaid becomes pregnant) logical to happen. The poor couple is worried that the sponsor will send her back to Bangladesh and find a new housemaid. Hence, they decided to terminate the pregnancy!

He (the husband) came to me asking for help getting the medicine which can induce an abortion! First of all, it wasn’t my case to handle (it is a gynae & Obs case). Secondly, in Oman, it is against the law to induce abortion. I explained it to him and he left, even though he was disappointed in me!

They are at the age when they need children. They are fertile! She is pregnant! But, due to their poverty, they are trying to terminate the pregnancy! They don’t want to hold on to one of the biggest blessings a couple can ever have!

Why am I grateful to my Creator?

Allah has saved me from falling into such a situation. Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah!!
