From Bustling Lagos to Blissful Serenity, the Noise Pollution Woe I faced

I never knew what living in a serene environment felt like not until I moved to my current area of residence which is located in a more natural environment compared to the busy city life I have been used to my whole life.

Let me tell you a bit about the previous locations I've lived in, you know this common quote"Lagos never sleeps" is the best description you could give to the areas I've lived in right from a tender age. Right in the heart of Lagos where commercial activities are at their apex point, so you see not only noise pollution was the order of the day, but the air and land were polluted too, even though our governor does a good job in keeping the environment clean, by paying a group of workers known as LAWMA. The noise from the vehicles, roadside traders, religious houses, and neighbors fighting is enough to drive one insane.

I've heard people say they can thrive in any environment they find themselves in, these may be true, but there will be limitations, and from my experience living in a more serene environment and a noise-polluted one, I can boldly say we thrive better in a quiet environment. I'm someone who likes starting my day on a sharp note, as a writer on Hive, I prefer writing early hours of the morning, also being a fashion designer, I also prefer making my design pattern in the morning, but my previous location made this a tedious task for me. Let me give you a glimpse of the ordeal I faced there.
Starting from the church behind my house that automatically became my alarm, it had its speaker positioned directly opposite my window, and having that good early morning nap, especially on a weekend is impossible, I'm not against worshiping God early hours of the morning, I'm a Christian too, but I think these churches should be considerate of the neighboring homes around, and probably make their churches sound proofs, I have had rough days from not having a good night sleep in the house I paid for due to the church holding a vigil service, but what can I do, If the landlords of the street cannot tender its tenant's complaints to the church, and all they do is render abusive comment at the church which isn't suppose to be so, What can I do, I had no other choice than to endure till we could afford another apartment. My former neighbor once gave a good idea, that all churches should be moved to another area which isn't a residential area, he might have said it out of anger, but it's a good point, you will understand what we faced only if you have had a church speaker directly opposite your window.

Now what I face is the very common Noise pollution in Nigeria which is the use of power generators due to the erratic power supply we experience here, to the extent, there are ones named "I pass my neighbor" wonder how that name was coined, it was due to noise pollution since the generator generates too much noise, it disturbs a lot and if you complain to your neighbor about his or her generator making a hell of a noise, especially when you don't have yours, they will conclude It is due to jealousy, that automatically means that anyone that own a generator is more than his neighbour that doesn't have.

My new neighborhood is a cool one, and my neighbor is understanding too, even though we are just two tenants, we still have to face unavoidable noise pollution. The noise from my neighbor's generator disturbs me a lot, and who am I to complain when my generator also makes the same noise😂, so you see what I mean, we have no choice but to endure each other's noise, but things are gradually changing as I saw him installing solar inverter recently, that means less noise especially during the hours of the afternoon, it shows even his own generator disturbs him a lot. If I can afford one, I would too to lessen the noise.

Living in Lagos is hell on its own, I can testify to that. Several times I have discussed this with a lot people that, is it really necessary for churches and mosques to make use of loud speakers. It is fine for them to be in residential areas as long as their noise from speakers doesn't disturb others. The God we are serving does not answer prayers based on how loud it sounds, I mean those who pray and worship silently are also humans. We can't call ourselves worshipers of God and ignore People's plight what does that make us.

A real hell o, I know a lot of us suffer from this pollution, no one disturbs them as long as they fon't disturb us with their noise,God even answers silent prayers more, so what is the excuse, they should know better to respect others.

But the thing with this kind of issue is that, the moment a person raises an alarm on this, such person becomes their enemy.

A mosque speaker is facing just close to my window glory dear. I cannot complain because I saw it before living here... everyone trying their best to pollute the environment by all means..no one considers each other. Your neighbour installing inverter sounds great and I pray you afford it too for your home

Eh! I never saw mine before rentage, it's funny the day I moved in, a kid in the compound told me the church speaker would start disturbing me, that it was what made her friends who lived in the same apartment move out😂

Yes, everyone should be considerate of each other, and Amen to the prayers.

There are some noise pollution we can't avoid. At times, adapting to some situations we can't handle is what we need, even though it may not be easy.

That is not a bad idea to have churches moved to a Secular precinct provided it doesn't make it prohibitive for the residents to get there and back to attend services. I would not be able to live in town. The noise pollution would drive me insane, not to mention CO2! I bet you are thrilled you moved! I also love to write late at night and into the early hours. It squeezes my time for sleep but I love the peace and quiet these hours bring.

I dropped in from Dreemport this evening. !PIZZA !ALIVE
