This is the #57th edition of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

29 of 47 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

After Arcade Colony, Moon Karts in the Spotlight This Week

Moon Karts is the first game on Arcade Colony. I believe it took many by surprise to see how advanced the development of this game is. During last Friday's Invenium Town Hall, we could see for the first time a playable demo of the game, which is not a classic driving-ability and racing game, but you can also shoot your opponents or place traps for them, that makes it more suitable for casual players too.

From a distance, it looks like an exciting and adrenaline-pumping game, from a genre we can't find on Hive and I'm not sure it can be found in the crypto space, in general.

We also have the whitepaper released for Moon Shots. Give it a read if you are interested, Aggroed hinted in the town hall it might not be long until the game will be launched.

Two social media contests from Invenium, one for Moon Shots and one for Goals were also kick-started this week.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Hive Core Devs Meeting

We had a core devs meeting this week. Howo is having some issues on his front of the work, the Blocktrades team is preparing to select release candidates for much of the work done recently, and there was an interesting talk regarding the reputation system on Hive and how compute-intensive it is. Ideas were thrown around regarding what to do with it, but mostly a decision will be delayed until after the reputation logic is carved out into a HAF app.

INLEO Updates

Pretty big updates in this week's AMA from INLEO.

Toward the beginning, Khal and Eric discussed some KPIs regarding the onboarding campaign. Eric mentioned they are slightly lower than before, but considers a big factor is that then there were Zealy campaigns going on at the beginning, which increased the activity. He also mentioned only a small portion of the funding received for marketing was spent so far, with bigger campaigns to be expected later on.

However, the focus of the AMA was on the announcement of Khal regarding the delegation tiers introduced, which could boost the APR up to 22%. This topic has also been approached separately, in a written post.

Khal published an article this week with his thoughts regarding what it means to build the first successful Web 3 product. As expected, Inleo is a case study.

Leo Tasks also started an initiative at the beginning of the month called "February Monthly Prompt". with a post topic every day of the month (you don't need to post daily!). You might have seen it around... It's not too late to start it if you want to.

Hive-Engine Drops Support for the WAX and EOS Blockchains

As announced in discord and inside the interfaces, Hive-Engine will drop support for the two chains. There is a schedule for doing so and if you still have SWAP.WAX or SWAP.EOS, you should check the message to see what are your options and for how long. I'll link the post from @chrisrice who was kind enough to tag me for this news report.

Clive Updates

The cursor-based and command-line interface Clive continues to be developed. From the latest update, we find out that governance operations have been added to the CLI.

No More BXT Rewards for Liquidity Providers...

... other than for SWAP.HIVE-BXT. Other incentivized activities may be added later, as we learn from this short post.

Curangel Stops Downvoting

@pharesim decided Curangel should take a break from downvoting because he sees people take it personally (personal note: they always will, it's how psychology works), even though he wished the culture around downvotes could be changed and they shouldn't be taken so personally.

Actifit Updates

Actifit has a new mobile app release for Android, has integrated Ecency Waves, and now offers free referral signups (from my understanding by reading the post, referrals are restricted by the number of rewarded activity reports - you get 5 referral "spots" every 5 activity reports rewarded). Here are the details.

Layout Update of the Chat Integration on D.Buzz

I don't know how chat looked before, but Chris says it's a major layout update of the StingChat integration into D.Buzz. This news is worth mentioning for more than just the update. I like it when cross-platform tools or features get integrated or improved on Hive.

Interviews with Jarvie and Good-Karma

Jarvie, co-owner of PeakD, and Good-Karma, founder of Ecency (although I saw he doesn't like to be called a founder), were interviewed recently on Start Up Podcast PH. Interviews with Hive dApp owners/creators seem to come every Friday there if you are interested.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

WOO Updates

I'll add these updates to the marketing section because WOO seems to be great at niche marketing.

WOO crate holders should pay attention because today (Feb 9) is the day when they can open them!

The WOO Championship Belt and Hive Community Championship Belt have been unveiled this week as well, with sponsors from inside the Hive ecosystem: Splinterlands, Thunkgaria, dCrops, and Inleo, and Sonny Onoo presenting them on X. From someone who knows little about wrestling, they seem very well crafted. Now let's see their impact!

Games

Holozing Updates

Not too many Holozing updates recently. I'm ok with that if things go well in the background. This week we've had a post announcing the official names of the alpha creature starters, and their "evolved" names. Maybe I didn't read with enough attention, but I didn't understand yet what evolving represents or how a creature evolves.

dCrops burns 15 Million DEC from the Olive Tree Sale!

An interesting cross-promo between Splinterlands (voted by the DAO, and supported by Matt) and dCrops led to sales of the Olive Tree promo card on dCrops in the amount of 15m DEC, which were burned, according to the agreement. dCrops also gifts around 5k packs to the SPS DAO with the request that it holds them for at least one year. Nice strategy toward a potential future collaboration!

Meetings / Events / Communities

VIBES - Web3 Music Competition

@lordbutterfly has initiated (restarted?) an interesting music competition on X called VIBES. Here's the announcement post.

Here's one of the submissions to the contest (great lyrics chosen for a Web3/Hive music contest). I found this one on Hive and I am too lazy to check X for other submissions, but maybe you aren't. 😀

Gaming-Focused Hive Community Town Hall Meeting

The 4th Hive community town hall meeting took place at the beginning of February and was gaming-focused. There were speakers from Splinterlands, WOO, Terracore, CraftInk, and Retzark, besides the regular hosts.

CTT Podcast About Parallel Economies in Action

I guess we need to scale down our expectations to some degree. Circular economies are difficult to create. Maybe parallel economies, then? Let's see what the CTT guys have to say about it in episode 99 of their podcast.

Hive Sucre Interviewing One of their Partners

I believe that's a good initiative, the interviews with HBD partners in Sucre, if they continue. It's a way to know them and how they think, and for them to reach more people locally.

This is an interview with Hive Sucre's partner Zen Venezuala (@eotahola on Hive).

Hive dApps Presented to High-School Students in Venezuela

Hive Goes to School program continues. On the 4th visit to @etinlavictoria, high school students there learned about PeakD, 3Speak, LikeTu, Inleo, and NFTShowroom.

In a separate event, during one of the HIVEED classes, @danielvehe has another interesting approach to presenting Hive dApps to his students and encouraging them to engage.

New Episode in the Hive Onboarding Orientation Journey

This is a program that has an above-average retention rate on Hive, so it's important to keep an eye on it. It often happens in the Philippines (or that's where I find posts about it), and this is from Cebu, in the Philippines, as well.

Week in the Crypto World

Monero's Price Impacted Seriously by Announced Binance Delisting

Someone (don't remember who, sorry) was wondering this week: if actions against privacy coins were expected for a long time, among them delisting, why did the price drop only when the delisting was announced, and not before? Good question!

Did anyone think Monero would be exempted from this? Or does the surprise come from the fact it's practically a reversed "react to the rumor, be a contrarian on the news" type of action?

I'm also wondering if the crash was deliberate and organized, to scare people away from using it or other privacy coins.

Lots of questions, no answers.

Either way, that's what happened with the price of Monero. I'm not aware of their network having any issues, just the price, so if people want to use it they can continue to do so. It will be more and more difficult to find liquidity outside the privacy networks for privacy coins unless it is organized in a manner out of the reach of the regulators.

All Is Great on Solana...

... except it freezes for hours every once in a while. Nothing much, really!

In reality, I have no idea if all else is great. I have noticed the hype, and know about its centralization issues, but haven't used it.

I’m sure that so many people are happy about the Web3 music competition
Let’s see how the competition goes

Yep, that sounds cool! And I know there are some musicians on Hive who will really love this. However, the aim seems to be to attract musicians from the outside too.

Today I am still surprised the stop of the BTx reward

They just stopped the rewards for other LPs. And may use the inflation differently in the future. They didn't stop rewards for SWAP.HIVE-BXT or staked BXT (which gives HIVE, not BXT).

A lot happened. I didn't realize that HE will stop support for WAX and BXT removing rewards might mean that I should take back my liquidity in my BUSD/HBD pool.

take back my liquidity in my BUSD/HBD pool

Not BUSD! It's no longer supported and you never know what could happen with it, its price, or its liquidity.

BXT removing rewards

Beeswap didn't stop rewards for SWAP.HIVE-BXT or for staking BXT, from what I see.

There are a lot of updates here that I am interested in. But the biggest surprise for me might be how nice Moonkarts actually look. I'm on wifi and my internet sucks, so I probably won't play it, but it looks really polished for a new game. The dCrops and SPL partnership is very nice, and I wish more Hive games will collaborate with each other.

I'm not wifi too, but the internet is pretty good. They'll have a mobile version too, so I expect the game won't need such a good internet connection after loading. But maybe I am wrong.

The dCrops and SPL partnership is very nice, and I wish more Hive games will collaborate with each other.

That can be said by any Hive dApps. A lot more can be accomplished by collaborating, and not only in words but in facts too.

Yeah, I agree. For having name our groups communities, we are still pretty divided. It would be cool to see community collaborations, like maybe Actifit with Weekend Experiences doing a fun run. Or Pinmapple and Foodies highlighting specific restaurants.

Until the price of Bitcoin stabilizes at one place and its dominance does not come down, we cannot see money pouring into altcoins and their prices will go up and down in the same way.
