Week on Hive

21 of 34 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

Hive Core Developments

After a new HAF-based API stack was released about 3 weeks ago, we had a Hive Core Devs meeting this week and more interesting details.

From the core dev meeting, we find out two things I have already covered in a separate post this week:

  • both HiveD and HAF have been tested and would work with a 2 MB block size, which would ensure potential scalability of Hive (from this point of view) of at least 30x
  • work is being done to integrate Hive with Rosetta, which is a prerequisite to listing HIVE on an exchange such as Coinbase (but does not guarantee it)

Blocktrades also talks about the plans of his team for future Hive-related work, but without going into much detail yet.

From a different post of @gtg as a witness, we find out that he plans to upgrade (the last to do it from his words) to the latest version of the Hive API, and any application that hasn't tested the new API stack and depends on the old version should do it, as he will no longer provide it after the week passes.

He also makes a very telling comparison between Hive and the legacy chain, showing that more or a comparable number of changes have been made for this minor version update of Hive than in 10 major versions (hard forks) on the legacy chain! That's incredible! And that happens considering that much of the code written recently is for tools and support software that isn't counted. You should check the post and see the table with a side-by-side comparison.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

11th in Croatia, Portugal Next

Our Hive rally team finished the Croatian WRC in the 11th position out of 21 (18 finished) in their category. This is pretty good being the first time they use the new car in racing conditions. This is what our driver posted after the race.

First Tokenized Music Album on Hive?

I didn't even know in which category to add this piece of news. It must be the first time something like this is attempted on Hive at this level, or at least the first time I am aware of it.

So, what's the gist of it? @stickupboys created a SUB token costing 1 HIVE each. There will be 50k max, sellable in 10 tranches. He already sold 11k of them, says the announcement.

The SUB token pays out dividends from certain revenues generated by the album (clearly stated) until September 2027, after which SUB will be redeemable back to HIVE at the initial price of 1 HIVE per SUB. The HIVE revenue from purchases is powered up until it is time to redeem it and delegated for APR, to fund small promotions of the music.

The album will consist of 12 songs. The deal also includes the instrumental versions of each song and various remixes.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Hive Keychain v3.4 Beta - Open Peak Notifications & Onboarding tutorial

Soon after v3.3 came into production, Hive Keychain announced the next beta version, which includes Open Peak Notifications (can be personalized) and an onboarding tutorial with 9 steps.

V4V.App Updates

The first time I read through this post I didn't "see" all the updates. I thought Brian only talked about the joint DHF proposal with VSC from his perspective. And he does that too.

But there are two updates for the V4V.app. One is useful for non-Hivers (podcasters, mainly), who are offered the option to set up an iCloud, Google, or physical passkey login option instead of Keychain or HAS (they still need to use them at least once).

The second one is for users of the Lightning network, who could create a new Hive account for a $3 payment in Lightning. They would receive some HIVE and HBD and a RC delegation to get them started. So, a Hive onboarding option for Lightning.

Discussions on Revamping LBI

LBI, the SPInvest's subproject based on LEO, hasn't been doing well for quite some time. Occasionally, it was brought up the question whether it was time to close it. @jk6276 offered to take over as an operator of the project from @silverstackeruk, and presented his plan to revamp LBI. SSUK responded here.

Games

Rise of the Pixels Launched on Monday

As announced last week, RotP was launched at the beginning of the week. There were multiple posts around the event:

Splinterlands Updates

DAO Change to Multi-Sig Wallets Process

Splinterlands is presenting the process of changing all DAO-related wallets to multi-sig wallets, and is asking the community to select 11 treasurers who will hold the multi-sig private keys and operate the respective wallets. The prospective treasurers need to present themselves, have a stake in the ecosystem, run for those positions, and be voted in by the SPS stakeholders. They can be seen and voted on from here (only 4 want this position so far, and time is running out). This is an interim situation until the SPS validators' network takes over.

News from the Town Hall

I haven't listened to the Town Hall recording yet, but after looking at the discussion points, it seems there were quite a few interesting points touched. Among them:

  • no more SPS rewards if you have no SPS stake, but new players will automatically receive a 100 SPS delegation (I assume it would be taken away if abused)
  • adding rarity-based draws to the Glint shop
  • Glint from Ranked battles will increase by 50% across the board; at the same time, the EOS Glint rewards will be reduced in half (going forward, there will be 1x instead of 2x of the Glint earned during the season awarded at the EOS); if you want an explanation with fewer numbers, you get more Glint for winning battles during the season, and less Glint at the end of the season.
  • Land 1.6 updates in May: DEC-grain market, Prefix titles, cleaning up the leaderboards and UI

Exode Aims for Massive Growth Starting This Year

What is certain is that Exode hasn't been promoted much. But looks like things are about to change. @Elindos has quite a few ideas I haven't even heard brought up by others before.

Meetings / Events / Communities

HiveBuzz Party 2024 in Hamburg Seemed Like Fun

I enjoyed reading @mypathtofire's (and not only) posts about his first Hive meetup (and presentation) from Hamburg this year. It's broken up in four parts (I hope I have them in order, lol):

LPG Runners Join Hive

LPG Runners is the Venezuelan running club onboarded on Hive recently by Hive Run. This is their presentation post.

Spending HBD Is Growing

Seeing the increasing number of trending posts about spending HBD, @demotruk put together some stats to see if this is a real trend or if it just seems to be. His conclusion based on the data is that the trend is real, the spending of HBD is higher than ever. That includes all spending, not only in-person purchases, but they are on the rise too. He also admitted his analysis is limited by excluding the v4v.app transactions because he didn't know how to tell which transactions were exchanges and which purchases. This may be solved in the future as @brianoflondon rewrites the V4V.app code, and leaves out the exchange part to VSC.

Week in the Crypto World

One hot and one cold...

Spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs Approved in Hong Kong

2 spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs were recently approved in Hong Kong (as a response to the Bitcoin ETFs approved in the US?). They'll begin trading in a few days. Anyone who thought there could be post-halving volatility and lower prices for Bitcoin (including myself) perhaps should reconsider...

Samourai Wallet Founders Arrested and Charged With Money Laundering

I should have probably heard of this wallet, but I haven't. Probably I don't 'get out' often or deep enough. Either way, looks like this wallet was (still is?) privacy-oriented, and if these guys were arrested and charged, it most likely worked as intended too.

In the name of fighting criminals, privacy will become a strange concept to future generations. After all, real-life no-privacy shows seem so popular already, right? Plus the naive statement "I have nothing to hide". Horrible!

You're welcome! I love it! It's certainly something the world is slowly moving toward: the tokenization of everything.

Does it mean that we will have access to the album when we buy the SUB tokens or what?

Hmm... That... I don't know.🤔 Maybe the guys can answer that.

You're welcome! As I said, I enjoyed reading them.

I actually caught the Croatian rally and saw the guys being interviewed before the race.

Do you mean on TV or at the sight? If you were in Croatia for the rally on top of the meetup in Hamburg, you surely enjoyed last week or so.

Just on TV sadly. I have been to Croatia many times on holiday, it's a great place.

I've only been once... and I agree. I should probably get there again.

Thank you @gadrian for your list of weekly updates in the Hive community. I am going through them now and reading more details about each. Have a great weekend! Barb 🌟😊👍

Hi @gadrian. I sounds like Samourai was mainly on the Dark Web so that's why you never heard of it or scene anything about it. Samouria Wallet was hosted in Iceland - a far out of the way place. Here is some interesting info below from the article.

Quotes from this article on Coin Desk

QuoteAccording to a press release issued Wednesday, the pair developed, marketed and operated the mixer, which "facilitated more than $100 million in money laundering transactions from illegal dark web markets."

Samourai has been in development since 2015, the DOJ press release said, and Rodriguez and Hill "encouraged and openly invited users to launder criminal proceeds" through the mixer, the press release said, citing tweets and private messages. The mobile application has seen more than 100,000 downloads.

The Samourai Wallet website, which was hosted in Iceland, has also been seized, and a seizure warrant issued for Samourai’s mobile application to the Google Play Store.

Whenever such new projects come and they bring trusted people, we must invest in them.

Each of us chooses what to invest in and what not using different criteria, but trustworthiness is an important factor.

The Hongkong ETF news is interesting. This should provide more demand for BTC and ETH. Although I did see an article that said it isn't open to China.

Although I did see an article that said it isn't open to China.

Hmm... Maybe it's a way to keep the floodgates under tighter control. I don't know how much autonomy Hong Kong really has from China.

Yeah. I did think it might be because China hasn't approved of ETFs from their end as well.

Yeah, but also maybe they don't want to lose the war on crypto, and open a door to people with money from China to invest in ETFs from Hong Kong. Maybe, just a supposition. ETFs can be controlled much better than crypto.

That is definitely true. Since it is mostly big corporations offering ETFs, they are definitely beholden to the government, and in effect, can be more controlled.

I am glad to see some news about LBI. I haven't been following along that much as I have just left the LBI to sit there as I know that the project was focused on growth. I will have to look into the details.

Yeah, the project isn't doing great, but maybe they'll be able to revitalize it.

V4V.App is already a certainty that adds great value to our ecosystem. The music album is something that tests applied tokenization in the music industry. We will likely see many more tokenized albums in the future, but it's great that we have some pioneers on Hive.

Samourai Wallet is one of the few that cared about user privacy. May the forks live on. At least https://blockwallet.io lives on.

Yep, I read afterward that the code was open-source, and continues to be used after Samourai Wallet ended up under the control of the government.

That was a very busy post! Many encouraging things are happening here on Hive,

The Splinterlands changes continue to worry me. Changes are coming in fast and furious, and it's already expensive to come in as a newbie. I'm not convinced they are going the right way, but I hope they can make it work!

Are you trying out Rise of the Pixels? I haven't heard much about it, but will be checking it out this next week.

On that last front, I hadn't heard of the wallet either, but it's sad that the government wants to end all privacy. This definitely isn't the country I grew up in...

Thanks for a great post!

Haven't tried it yet.

Yeah, I think things started to get more aggressive nowadays. Perhaps they feel they are losing this war.

I looked at Pixels, but a little expensive to get started in a game I'm not sure I'm even going to like. I'll keep an eye on it though.

They most certainly need to lose the war on our privacy!

Yeah, we can't get involved in everything.

They most certainly need to lose the war on our privacy!

I don't know. They may let us be (maybe) since we remember what it was like to have privacy, but new generations voluntarily give up their privacy, so I believe eventually they will win this war by non-combat, unless something radical changes in society, particularly with new generations.
