Rising Star's Millionaires Need to Go Back to Work! :)
Rising Star came with an update a few hours ago changing the way the Starbits Millionaire's mission works.
The way to mission works now, one needs 1000 fans, level 50, and the Startbits Millionaire card (which is received for free upon request, once you have 1 million STARBITS in your Hive-Engine wallet).
But looks like the mission was abused, and some users only did enough to qualify for this mission and play it every day, and then extract value. They had no interest in growing their accounts in the game.
This may be ok for their own purposes, but it's not sustainable for the game and defeats its evolutive nature as well.
So, two changes will be implemented in the game starting on June 27th.
Change 1: The Fans Requirement Grows with the Number of Times the Mission Has Been Played
Instead of being a fixed number, set at 1000, the number of fans required to run the Starbits Millionaire's Mission will grow each time you run the mission, based on this formula:
fan_requirement = 1000 + (100 x number of Starbits Millionaire missions you have run).
So, if you have run the mission 100 times, you need at least 11000 fans to run the mission the 101st time.
After a year of daily running the mission, you'd need 37500 fans to run another Starbits Millionaire mission.
Well, I hope when the new requirements for the mission come into play on the 27th (or even before to give people time to prepare!), there will be a counter for the missions we have run until now, so we know where we stand.
Personally, I'm doing well for this requirement. I don't remember when I started playing the Starbits Millionaire's mission (although I could track that information down), but I have over 44000 base fans and I've been playing Rising Star for less than a year (without checking exact dates). So I even have spare fans.
Btw, a nice milestone on the Rising Star for me this week: I passed 1000 cards.
Change 2: Receive 10% Extra Bonus By Holding STARPRO
I'll just add the quote from the original post here:
If you hold 0.03 STARPRO x number of Starbits Millionaire missions you have run then you will get a 10% bonus on the Millionaire Mission.
The "0.03" will change as the STARBITS & STARPRO prices change but the goal is to allow you to get back 1000 STARBITS for the same cost as buying the equivalent STARPRO (or earning it in Music Promoter) and holding it.
I'm having trouble understanding the reasoning behind this change. This will incentivize holding STARPRO and not using it. At the same time, to keep receiving the bonus, you'd have to swap the full bonus to STARPRO every day and hold it, as far as I understand it.
I don't use much STARPRO, but it was my impression this was more useful to pay for different things in-game rather than hold it. Maybe I'm not getting this right about why would anyone just hold STARPRO instead of using it.
If anyone understands how this would be beneficial, I'd appreciate it if you let us know in the comments section. Maybe as a new dynamic introduced to the Music Promoter feature?
Conclusion
Overall, whenever bad dynamics are noticed in an economy (including one of a game), one needs to try to counteract them before they become overwhelming and crush the entire economy.
So, I believe these changes are beneficial to Rising Star, they will incentivize more re-investing in the game instead of extracting a considerable portion out.

You can find out how many of any mission you have run on the Achievements page.
Thanks! Didn't think of that, but it was an easy one.
Woa, great engagement with the community.
I really like these changes, and now people should get more cards and improve their Fan count.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yeah, so do I. I don't really understand the reason for the second one, but they probably have a good reason for implementing it too.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I think the reason might be that people will try to have more StarPro for getting more Starbits
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yes, but to keep up with the requirement of STARPRO needed for the bonus, one needs to use the bonus STARBITS to buy STARPRO every day, as far as I got it. Unless they make some trading profit, it doesn't look like a win.

Happy to see these changes as people always find a way to "milk the system"... Without changes, the game would probably go down the drain like many other projects/websites, when similar things happen...
Go Rising Star! :)
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yep, same here. I see some big dumpers in the market, but if they do that because the milk cow is about to go dry for them, and all they want is to cash out, then it's not a big loss.

I had not seen this change. Thanks for raising the flag about it.
I don't have a STARBITS Millionaire card yet, but I am working toward getting one to be able to purchase card packs on a more regular basis.
The Starbits Millionaire's mission will change the game completely for you. It will be like a before and after event. Even after the changes.

That's what I'm hoping for. I'm looking forward to this Festival thing being over where I don't have to spend so many STARBITS on acquiring wristbands. I'm really beginning to wonder if this blended card will be work it, but I'm too invested in it now to let it go. 😁
Hmm, I haven't tried the Festivals yet. :)

Today I had my mission 300 on the millionaire lane. It is a good change, for sure.

I still have a lot of room to maneuver, only my 182nd mission - late starter. I agree, very useful for the game economy.

I dont follow this game too closely but it is another one on Hive that seems to be drawing a loyal following. The fact that the team is continually updating the game is exciting.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It is important that they keep an eye on the potential threats to the game economy and make changes accordingly.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Good changes in my opinion, good for the game. Some players will of course lose their (almost) passive income.
It's still almost passive. You just need to re-invest a good chunk of the game returns back into the game. Something I've been doing anyway.

I don't even understand the point of StarPro at all. I don't understand how you get them or where they even come from. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if you suddenly see a huge batch of StarBits hitting the market as people sell the 1 million tokens they were holding. It's not going to be pretty. I might even reconsider holding mine. I think this is an unfortunate case were some innocent people are going to be caught in the crossfire and harmed due to the change.
I rarely used STARPRO too. You can win them in Music Promoter, but for most people, they need to be bought.
There is some selling pressure right now, it's true. But for the game economy, I believe it makes sense to try to incentivize people to reinvest in the game. At least the first change makes perfect sense to me. The second change might be some curious bi-token price dynamics they are trying to control. I don't really get the 2nd change, but probably I'm not in the target group for that one.

I don't think I agree with that. Gathering and holding 1 million of any token is time consuming and honestly constitutes a pretty big investment. To suddenly say that isn't good enough is kind of a slap in the face. I just think these attempts at balancing are locking the game down so much that on one will want to invest.
I understand that's a big, unexpected change and maybe many didn't account for it. But what happens if everyone with Starbits Millionaire dumps ALL their mission gains on the market every day? How would that be sustainable for the game?
Wouldn't the smarter play be to just stop creating the card? What's out there is out there. You can trade it away if you want or sell it, but don't punish the people who invested time and money into the game. People are selling their mission gains anyway. Especially these days when everything is blah.
I don't... Only 1/12th of my Rising Star gains. But maybe I am the exception.
You might just be! Looks like the SB market took a beating today.
Yep, saw that... Not very fun.
I think Rising Star is doing a great job in minimizing abuse. I am a Starbits millionaire for not so long, I have been reusing the Starbits to buy cardpacks. So I am not really concerned about fan count for now. I gave over 11k fans and have played the mission for 20-30 times maybe?. So I am still good.
Thanks for sharing on Listnerds

You're doing ok! You can check the exact number of times you've played it from Achievements, as I've been told.
Sure seems like the changes are a success based on the comments. Thanks for sharing.
There were a few negative comments too. Not everyone is happy about it. But changes have a way of not pleasing everyone.

How is this game? Time consuming? Worthwhile?
It's hard to find game play videos.
This is what's called an idle game. Just start a mission and you have pretty much nothing to do until the mission is over.
How much initial investment is needed?
In theory, none, you can start playing for free. But in practice, some investment speeds up growth.
I think I used around 10-20 HIVE after the first week or so and around 250 HIVE or so to buy the rest of the needed STARBITS up to 1mil for the Starbits Millionaire Card. But you don't need that until later. And you can earn those, but it takes much longer.
Nice. Nowhere close to the splinterlands investment!
I didn't count reinvestments. And I did a lot of those.
My guess for the STARPRO stuff:
STARPRO is currently used to access the World Festival missions and to acquire Fan Club cards. The Fan Club cards are slated to become a major aspect of the game's next iteration.
The use cases for having and spending STARPRO looks like they'll increase, so this Millionaire Mission tweak is likely a balancing mechanism. Encourage some holding behaviour to balance the (upcoming) increased spending behaviour?
The other thing to consider is that a lot of RSG choices are made based on "is it fun?" versus "does it create an efficient economy?" The idea of needed to choose between spending or holding STARPRO is an interesting one—another game decision that needs to be made. Making these decisions is fun gaming (IMO).
Those're my two cents!
You've provided quite a few interesting details I wasn't aware of, like the focus on Fun Club cards for the next iteration of the game.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
No problem! The big jump in STARPRO from ~2 SWAP.HIVE to ~10 was due to Fan Club coming online. As more STARPRO centric features roll out, it will be interesting to see what happens.
I only bought 1 STARPRO, if I remember correctly, and that got me to the 4th fan club card.
I've only been a millionaire for 3 weeks so I'm not too pleased by this but I will adapt. It will be interesting to see how it effects the game and new players. My first thought is a massive dumping of starbits but we will have to wait and see.

If I'd be a player who just had access to the Starbits Millionaire mission not long ago, and wanted to quickly recoup the investment in STARBITS, for example, I'd have more patience. Take some gains out to recoup the investment but also build up the account. The latter makes sense for the game and it will take care of the requirement of an increasing number of fans for the Starbits Millionaire mission in perspective.
Yes, I just needed more time to recover my investment. I think starbits price is dumping because of this. I will change my strategy because it is good for the game. I hope people will still play
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
They will...
This explains the price crash. I have been trying to buy some Starbits and now they on discount.
yep. I wonder how it will play out. A lot of millionaires might dump but if people want to play they will need starbits so the price will come up.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Im thinking its a safe bet to take some cheap starbits and do what i do best.. hodl on.
The changes sound like they will stabilize the liquidity of the game and token. Great information, Adrian. Thanks for sharing.
Well, at first while some people are still upset, there will still be some dumping. But eventually, I hope most Rising Star players will realize this is for the long-term sustainability of the game.
I am not even close to this yet. They are obviously paying attention to how the game is being played so they can make changes to keep it sustainable for everyone. So, are you just talking about the Millionaire Mission here? Needing more fans to run it after 100 times? Just want to make sure I understand correctly.

Yes, that's the mission. You need the Starbits Millionaire card for that (you get it for free if you have 1mil STARBITS in your HE account and ask for it in discord), level 50 and I think 1000 fans to get it started.
You need more fans to run it even the 2nd time.
The first time, you need 1000 fans.
The 2nd time, you need 1000 + 100 x 1 = 1100 fans.
...
The 19th time, you need 1000 + 100 x 19 = 2900 fans.
and so on.

That's a good challenge to work toward. Thanks for the clarification, @gadrian! Have a great day! 😀

Yep, they can be good minimum goals to have. Have a great day too!
Thank you, @gadrian! Enjoy your weekend.😀
Damn, I'm still on the slow grind to level 50.
From a personal point of view, I'm sad I won't be easily able to earn a boatload of free STARBITS.
But from a sustainable tokenomics point of view, this is a shrewd move by the game itself.
All good :)

I'd always trade a quick-fireworks-then-slow-death situation for long-term sustainable gains.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
The starbit millionaire changes make sense to me and I have over 100k fans. So I don't think I will run into issues but I think I'll skip out on the STARPRO portion for the bonus. It just doesn't seem that interesting to me.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
For me neither, the second part. But the part about the fans makes perfect sense.

Oh, you still have a long enough way till you reach level 50 for this mission.
