Keychain Asked For Feedback About Future Developments

(Edited)

If you use Keychain - and I don't think I'd jump to the conclusion saying most of us do[1] - you probably have seen the survey they wanted us to complete. Whether you skipped it or completed it, it was entirely your choice.

The survey asked for some general feedback on the existing product but was mostly focused on our opinions about the future of Keychain.

Our identities could have remained anonymous (for the survey creator, not for Google), but we could have also added our Hive username at the end if we wanted to, and personalize our feedback.

With the diverse composition of the userbase that Hive has, I am curious if the survey will reveal major support for one feature or another.

What I know is that Splinterlands uses such Google forms to ask for feedback from time to time. The difference is we can assume people involved in Splinterlands have a more cohesive view of Splinterlands-related stuff. And even then we see there are quite heated debates on some proposals.

But I personally liked we were asked for our opinions. Maybe the survey will show major support or disagreement with one direction/feature or another. And that will give the devs a premise that can influence their prioritization process.

At the same time, we - the users/stakeholders - have some feedback from the devs ahead of time about what their potential plans are. And we get to say what we like and what we don't before they are actually implemented.

I also like this information/news popup that Keychain started using not so long ago to describe what's new in the newest version, and now they used it to present this survey.

It makes me think more information can be delivered this way. And the impact is great since almost everyone uses Keychain. This may work well with a few of the features they asked for feedback about, like guides/tutorials for Hive newcomers or presenting dApps on Hive.

Regarding the survey itself, one of the major directions they went on was making (or not) the Keychain multi-chain.

If something like that happens - and say Keychain will have an EVM version as the starting point -, one would be able to use it instead of Metamask on all EVM chains (i.e. Ethereum, BSC, Polygon, Avalanche, etc.).

That would resolve two things, actually:

  1. that will extend the reach of Hive further into other ecosystems where the Keychain will start to be used as an alternative, and new Hive users may be led into our ecosystem this way
  2. reduce another centralized point of vulnerability in the cryptocurrency world because there is a company behind Metamask, which I believe already showed its disponibility to filter transactions that aren't to the liking of various entities

If we think a step further and understand that we can associate a regular Hive username with an address that is very hard to read by humans, we could see another use case.

Someone from Ethereum (let's say) who would use our Keychain on Ethereum may want a Hive username just for that, to transact on Ethereum from @gadrian to @stoodkev, apparently, but behind the scenes using the linked Ethereum addresses.

Here's the direct link to the survey, if you missed it, stoodkev replied to one of the comments with it: https://forms.gle/PjrY9q61Nx1LUQfdA

  1. Would it be useful to have the meta-data to see how transactions were broadcasted (what tool was used, if any)?

That's pretty cool as I consider KeyChain as the main wallet on the Hive blockchain. And users might come up with some bright ideas, always good to harvest the community's brains.

Yes, sometimes it is a great idea. If we get a sense of direction out of the survey, it'll be much better.

Keychain is totally awesome. The mobile solution would be great.

I haven't used it on mobile. I understand it's a pain to use. But much easier if one uses it in conjunction with HiveAuth.

I have found it pretty good on mobile, but yeah, it could be something worth developing, especially linking with other Hive Apps to avoid needing to insert your Posting keys in many Apps that run outside the keychain App.

That's what I heard too. But I can't say I experienced it myself often since I rarely use Hive apps on mobile these days.

It would be a real hassle to sign on to The Hive without Keychain. I filled out my survey and submitted it. I hope everyone does.

Well, there was life before Keychain. :) And I was alive then, lol. But the ease of use it brings is much appreciated by most Hive users.

That would be very cool. Will increase the adoption for sure.

I'd like to see it multi-chain, but with the base on Hive.

I didn't see the survey (I wish I had), though it sounds like a great idea. Multi-chain support sounds fantastic! Thanks for this! 🙏 💚

Great share @gadrian, and I filled out the survey too, and also added a few ideas that I think is needed for it to be even better, I use Hive Keychain mostly on mobile, either the browser plugin with the mobile Kiwi Browser or the mobile app, keep up your good work and stay awesome.

This post is AWESOME!
It will therefore be highlighted in our daily Curated Collections posting for today.
The goal of this project is to "highlight Awesome Content, and growing the Hive ecosystem by rewarding it".

If you use it on mobile, then I'm sure you had a great deal of feedback to give. Which is important for them to know.

Yeah a bit, I have given some before in their Discord too.

I've always wondered why none of the MetaMask competitors haven't just added support for Hive.

Probably because not as much money flocks to Hive as to other ecosystems. And it's not as easy as just adding another EVM chain.

We can say the same about other ecosystems. How many browser wallets support Cosmos, for example? I think more support Thorchain.

I don't want to say too much before the end of the survey but:

  • We are getting a lot of answers (approaching 800)
  • The results we got so far give us rather clear answers to our questions

Thanks for relaying your thoughts about this survey. We will talk more about it after the end of the survey (November 3rd).

I especially like the second part, that you're getting clear answers to your questions. I thought it was a risk that people wanted all too many things since we are a diverse group of communities on Hive. Thanks for dropping by!

I saw the survey but I accidently clicked the no button. It won't show up again so I guess I'll skip out on the feedback. I was tired and I wanted to see something. The pop-up was annoying and I just clicked no so I could move on.

I have long wondered why other blockchains are not as convenient. They don't have Keychain! I'm so used to it that I can't imagine how I can do without it... 😅 !LOLZ

And yes, I took the survey, too.

Frankly, it's the combination between Hive and Keychain that makes it so attractive. If the blockchain itself is cluttered and slow to use, Keychain can't help much.

I saw the survey and filled it out. I love using Keychain.
