It has been quite a while ago since I posted my last beer review. I did drink some beers in the meantime... I just didn't find the time to create a review of it.
Until tonight.... I'm actually still relaxing with this beer on the couch.

A week or two ago I took my father in law, who likes beer too, to my favorite beer shop. We both bought some nice craft beers. When we were searching through the store we spotted a beer from a brewery from which we had a good beer before during a beer tasting event we attended. We had the 'zware jongens' (tough guys) back then and now we spotted their 1818.

The brewery

Maallust is a Dutch brewery and is located in Veenhuizen in the northern part of the country.
The 1818 is a Quadruple; quite a heavy beer. On the label of the bottle they describe it as the general of the craft beers.
The beer has an alcoholpercentage of 10%, so it's certainly a beer you should drink slowly.

Looks

When pooring the beer in the glass you see the dark coloured beer; almost black. Even the foam has a brown colour and is quite firmwith large bubbles.

Smell & taste

Like a lot of quadruples this one has a lot of flavours. It is quite sweet with a slight bitterness. You can taste dried fruit like raisins and caramel.
Mine came from the fridge, so it was quite cold when I started drinking it. After a while the temperature of the beer went up a bit which also enhanced the taste.
The advised temperature to drink this beer is 10 degrees celsius.

The verdict

I like quadruples. They are quite sweet compared to other craft beers, but the slight bitterness makes it a good beer. I would rate it 4 out of 5.

Bottle caps

As you might remember from my earlier beer reviews; I'm collecting the bottle caps of the beers that I drank. It took me a couple of years, but finally my 40x60 frame is completely filled.
