The longer you live, the more stories you have tell. These stories are made up of different kind experience either good or bad. I Live my life based on principles, One of the major principles that guides me whenever I'm relating with people is Do unto others what can be done unto you I believe in the fact that our beleifs is meant to bring the best out of us by shaping us into who we need to be, Before we can claim to fulfill all righteousness we must have done what is required of us as humans which involves treating people with respect and fairly.

This is just my speculation based on what I have seen over the years, I believe the longer humans species exist on earth, the more we forget who we are and start exhibiting habits that showcase the worst in us. I have related with hundreds of humans over the years but I still get surprised by the dubious nature of some humans, I mean there are times I'm treated unfairly by a fellow human and I would ask myself is this person also human because if truly the person is a human, he/she would not treat a another person like this. If I'm being honest I have been treated unfairly so many times that I have lost count of it. Even right Now I'm finding it difficult to choose but there was a recent experience I had, though I said something about it few days ago on my blog but it still the most recent unfair treatment I have experienced.

There was a time I was sent an errand by my mom, I had to visit zenith bank ATM in ikorodu to withdraw the amount of cash needed in purchasing what I was sent to buy. the initial plan was to with draw ₦50,000 but along the line after withdrawing ₦40000 I experienced a dispense error, which means I was debited a sum of ₦10,000 without getting any cash from the ATM. I had no choice but to withdraw another ₦10,000 from my personal savings in order ensure the ₦50,000 was complete.

Normally I would have entered the bank to complain but I knew that a dispense error report can't be made until the transaction is over 24 hours. I just went ahead to purchase what I was sent to buy, I reached home, gave the item to my mom and I didn't say anything about the dispense error that happen because I felt like the money will be reversed before 24 hours. I kept checking my account balance throughout that day but the money was not reversed and the next day it was still the same. On the third day I went to Zenith bank, the same branch where the dispense error occurred.

I entered the bank and I was directed to join the queue. this was on Thursday, after Waiting for more than 1hr it was finally my turn. I was already frustrated but I kept my cool, I explained what happened to the customer care lady I met. after checking the status of the transaction on her system, to my surprise she asked me to wait for the next 7 working days before the issue can be resolved. I felt so confused, I tried explaining to her that the transaction was over two days already but could you believe that this lady totally ignored me, she just kept acting as if I was not talking to her but still I kept my cool, stood up like gentleman and went out of the bank.

The most annoying aspect of the statement "7 working days" is that weekends are excluded since banks don't open on weekends. which means I had to wait till next week Friday for reversal. As if that was not painful enough after waiting for 7 working days including Saturday and Sunday making 9 days the money was not reversed. on the 9th day which was Friday, I woke up that morning and I knew in my heart that I was prepared for violence. I got to the bank very early in the morning, met the same lady. i walked up to her and explained to her again politely about what happened she did not even allow me to finish what I had to say before asking me to join the queue.

Like a gentleman, I joined the queue and waited till it was my turn, I explained to her what happened. Then she started saying something about having some network difficulties, that I should go to the other customer care service in order to resolve the issue. I just looked at her and smiled, I was so pissed off but I didn't want to act in way that will make me constitute nuisance in public so I went to one of the security guard in the bank and ask him to direct me to the managers office. the guy asked why I explained to him, that was when he directed me to the office of the CSO.

I went upstairs to see the CSO, explained what happened to him. he must have noticed I was pissed already because he kept saying I should calm down that everything will be sorted. The CSO tried searching for the complaint I made but could not find it, that was when he told me that the dispense error complaint was never imputed in the system. he had to call the customer care lady and blasted her. The CSO worked on the issue and before I left the bank I received the alert of the money being reversed.

This was not the first time I have seen customer care services treating others like trash. I have witnessed some of them speaking harshly to customers especially those that are old or uneducated but that specific day just happens to be my own turn. Getting out of the bank a part of me just wanted to walk to the lady and give her a smoothing slap just to knock some senses into her, apart from failing to discharge her duties as customer care, she has also failed at being human.

Moving on from the incident, that was the last time I entered that bank to perform any transaction. The worst part is that my hatred for bank services is not just pointed at that branch of zenith bank but all their branches to show how pained I'm about the experience. A thought of closing my account crossed my mind but I just don't feel like going through the stress, so I just dumped their ATM in my luggage. I'm the type of person that always tries my best to be forgiving but whenever I feel humiliated, I don't easily let go. Probably someday I might forget the whole thing but I doubt if it will happen anytime soon.

Indeed bro, the longer you live the more unfair treatment you have to suffer. After an unfair treatment, we still have to forgive and let go.

Yeah that is true but the fact that we will forgive does not mean we will forget.

Most of these customer service agent are like that, in almost all banks. I hate when things like that happens because I don't like to approach them.

I don't even bother approaching customer care service anymore, I just find a way to sort it out myself.

Something similar happened to me but in my case, it was UBA bank. The thought of also closing the account crossed my mind but it will indeed be stressful, so I just dumped it and I guess they will soon get the message that I'm no longer banking with them. Most of the customer care agents in banks are very terrible at their jobs, I wonder what criteria banks use to employ these people

The issue is that banks barely penalise their customer care for their misconduct.

Some customer service staff need to go get more training on their duty because they do not really understand what they are doing.
Sorry about your experience.

I understand your perspective, but wish to offer another viewpoint. As a 65 year old who is actively engaged in technology and trends, I find many older people that cannot keep up, and sometimes don't want to, but can demand familiarity. That was a key element to Trump's win in 2016: tellling older people who felt disenfranchised that he would recreate "the good old days" if elected. Of course, he didn't, but it got him elected.
Some of them believe that their desires should come first because they are elders. If you get them to reflect, they may admit the position is meant to dispel fear of the unknown, and of losing connection, rather than feeling disrespected. So I start with acknowledgement. Asking them to "tell me more" or "why is that so?".
The bank incident? I feel like the manager was "performing" to appease your understandable anger in a suitable way. Poor judgment on his part!

I wouldn't say the manager's actions were to appease my anger because he had a justification for his immediate response to the incident.

I mentioned in the post that, he discovered that my complaint about the dispense error was never logged into their system, which means for more than 12 days, the customer care lady got me waiting for phantom solution that would never come since it was never logged.

She could have tried to check what was going on when I came back to complain after the 7 working days but she didn't because she felt there was no need to do so. That was what caused the outburst of the manager.

I'm surprised that they even reversed the decision at all! so many times they just cover - cover - cover - and ignore the pleas of the customer!!! its ridiculous!

I'm happy to hear that it finaly got resolved and really!!! yes WHY are people allowed to be in customer service when "service" is the LAST thing in their personality!!!!

its not just banks... its everywhere these days.
a virus, i tell you.

people have no compassion for another anymore. no understanding.

well- dreemers have it all, I guess. hahahahahaah

I guess people have forgotten the fact that there are some jobs that has duties embedded in them. For you to be a customer care service provider, you have to be prepared to care about the customers.

I believe dreemers learnt compassion from the best, dreemport is all about growing by spoon feeding others. You make sure we never forget that.

Some of those customer care officers in our banks honestly can be terrible sometimes. There are times I even blame myself for opening an account in certain banks, but the truth is that every bank in Nigeria has its own load of shortcomings.
I am glad though that you persisted until the transaction was reversed without you resorting to 'vawulence', hehehe 😉.

That is thanks to the last strand of self discipline I had in me, if not, a lot could have happened that day 😂
