Cassava Flour making process || The conclusion

Holla readers and fellow bloggers, here I'm again the humble, passionate Gardner/ farmerπ , In April, I made a post concerning Cassava harvest and Cassava flour making process but I was unable to complete the cassava flour making process due to the fact that the cassava flour used for the practical was no ready for the next stage.
It did take a while from the duration I mentioned but it has been raining this past few weeks which has affected the duration in which the cassava yam was meant to dry up.
In the previous post about this particular topic, which I mentioned some stages such as peeling off the cassava skin, Slicing and soaking and sun-drying. you can visit the previous post for more detailed information on Cassava flour making process. finally the cassava yam has dried up and ready for the final steps which includes:
- 4) Sieving of the cassava yam: After the cassava yam must have dried up, you might realise that there are some particles that looks like sticks, this particles are meant to be removed, though it depends on the method you prefer, is either you sieve it by picking up the particles one by one using your hands or make use of basket but which ever way, you still need to make use of your hands in picking the sticks π . This sticks are also white in colour just like the cassava yam, though some of this sticks could have been removed in the sun-drying stage but some might still remain. it is very important to remove this sticks before blending it will affect the texture of the cassava flour.
- 5) Blending of the cassava yam: This is the last stage of the cassava flour making process, which involves making use of the factory blending machine to blend the cassava yam. We do not have the factory blending machine, so we take it to the market to blend the cassava yam, it is better handled by the professionals who are skilled in blending the cassava yam.
In the process of blending, you could mix the cassava yam with different farm products to bring out different kind of flour such as dry plantain and cassava yam will produce wheat flour, while dry Yam/Coco yam plus cassava yam will produce black wheat flour also known as Amala, blending the cassava yam only will produce pure cassava flour which can be used in making white wheat flour also known as White Amala. You can also mix the cassava yam with rice and it will produce a flour substance similar to pounded yam flour also known as Pando Yam flour used in making IYAN, A meal made with pure boiled Yam.

Is it Cassava or Cassava-Yam; like a Mixture of Cassava and Yam?
I just say make I ask for clarification. The post reminds me of when I was involved with planting Cassava, harvesting, processing it and frying Garri π It was a fun process because we did it as a group and we had fun all through the process. Hence, the tiredness and stressfulness of the whole process was mild for us.

Cassava is a general name given to the plant but when you harvest the fruit, which is similar to yam, it is called cassava yam.
Garri making is on another level entirely, I have never tried it because it is not a process that can be done by one person.

I am huge fun of tapioca in general, love it for puddings and stuff, but I've never used cassava flour before! I definitely have to explore some recipes with it:)

Very interesting. In my country we make a tortilla called 'Casabe' which is ideal to accompany soups. This process is the same as the one used to prepare it, only that the cassava should be much harder. Very good your post.
Casabe, is it also a product of cassava or a different plant?
Well cassava is surely, it has to go through process of soaking it in water for it to soften.

Well you are right, mixing the cassava flour with other dried farm product is also considered a substitute for wheat flour and also to add more spice to the wheat flour.
With ours, we made wheat flour with it.

Recently, I discovered that cassava flour can be used to make cake..it was quite amusing.
Wow, cassava flour to make cake, that is new. I will love to read the procedure if you eventually decide to write about it.

Garri cake?? Like the normal type of cake but with garri? Or it was a different thing.
We don't make that frequently but it's kind of the same procedure but, the normal flour would be replaced with cassava flour.
Yeah exactly, I won't really say the Normal type of cake because no oven is needed, just garri, butter, milk, water and other flavour depending on the bakers tasteπ
With an addition of water, one can call that sipping garri.
