Why are Universities Hesitant of Web3 Courses?

Web3, defined as the internet that is owned by builders and users and organized with tokens, is said to be growing at a good pace over the last few years.

While it does look like Web3 has been embraced by some globally, but what about higher education?

Some universities offer education opportunities related to Web3. But at the same time, universities that don't teach about Web3 may continue disappointing students if they don't start thinking seriously about integrating web3 education into their curricula.

And while blockchain technology and the latest version of the web, web3 does look to get some good attention in the internet world recently, probably because of the underlying potential, universities might not be able to avoid the latest technology by not teaching it to their students.

But the question is, why are universities still hesitant in embracing Web3?

Is it because they are hesitant to embrace the new trends by thinking why should they invest time and resources into something that may not last for longer?

Things like the fluid regulatory environment, the spread of malicious actors, etc., the course may not be attractive as an investment compared to corporate strategy or data science, etc. But if you take for example, the web2 social media and looking back on the early 2000s, do you think it would have made sense for the educators to discuss the disorderly nature of social media and the underlying capabilities?

An increase of 395% job postings in the blockchain industry has been reported back in 2021. Despite such growth, reportedly just around 14 universities in the United States currently are offering blockchain and crypto courses.

That being said, if universities offered experiential and educational opportunities in Web3 to the students, there would likely be an increase in jobs alongside the market growth rates.
