IT TAK DECISIONS TO BE INDEPENDENT

Being an Independent person means that the person is being free from outside control or not depending on another person for livelihood, all my life on this earth I wouldn’t say that I have been free from control before or depended solely on my own, I grew up staying with my parents and elder siblings, and since I was the second to last child of my parents, my younger sister and I have always depended on my parents or elder siblings for support in one way or the other, I mean I went to a private school all my life and my father paid for everything, and when I’m home I eat food that was provided by my mother and cooked by my elder sister, my younger sister and I were the princess of the house, we hardly did anything by ourselves but as a grown up now I wouldn’t really advice parent to bring up their children in that manner because believe it or not it would definitely affect the children in one way or the other.

When I got into the university it wasn’t easy living without my parents and siblings, the only thing I did enjoy was the freedom of going out anytime I wanted to but when it came to cooking, my school didn’t even allow it, I literally bought food throughout the 4years I spent there, sometimes I didn’t even like the food because it wasn’t as sweet as the one my elder sister would cook, my dad kept sending money every two weeks because we spent so much money on food.

And even when I finished schooling, I decided to go and learn an handwork, I went for makeup classes, my dad still did the paying but along the line I lost my passion for it and I stopped, and even when I lost my dad, I decided to go for fashion and design and it was paid by my uncle, he paid 50 thousand naira but unfortunately for me I had an accident and I stop because my leg was badly affected. Then again it was as if I became a baby that was learning how to walk, I couldn’t do some basic things on my own, if I wanted to switch positions when sleeping I needed someone to help me, I couldn’t walk on my own, I needed the help of two people because my weight was too much for one person.

The first time I had the true feeling of being independent was some months back, recently I sat down and thought to myself about something I could do and be very passionate about it, So I decided to go into baking because I love cakes, snacks and cooking, so I came with the money all by myself (150 thousand naira), I bought the other things for signing for an apprenticeship as culture demands, I got to make an important decision solely by self to raise the money without the help of anyone in my family, I had to work for the money. And since then I have been so proud of myself because in less than two months I’m able to bake and do some snacks on my own, I’m very glad that I took the decision on my own and spent my own money on everything..I’m pretty sure that this is a starting point for me.

Wow your story is actually inspiring, you got to decide what would work best for you as regards to passion and living independent from it.

Baking is a good skill, I've seen your handwork 🙂
