Apart from rape and torture of the civilian populace, one of the prevalent happenings in Mali is the genocidal tendencies of the military over the civilian populace. Although, most of the civilians have complained that the foreign soldiers have been the ones committing most of the atrocities against the civilian populace most especially women.

In a recent report from the UN as presented by al Jazeera tabulates that about 50 civilian (including women and children) were killed in April and over 300 civilian were abused within that same month. This is very absurd and is against the international humanitarian laws that seems the military to protect the citizens in times of conflicts and war.

At least 50 civilians were killed and more than 500 were arrested during a military operation conducted by Mali’s army and “foreign troops” on April 19, the United Nations has said.
The alleged massacre took place on market day in Hombori municipality, in the central region of Douentza, after a Mali military convoy hit an improvised explosive device, the UN said in a report on Wednesday.Source

Prior to this report, the UN have accused the Malian military for executing the civilians, although, the military authorities have denied at many instances that her personnel have been accused of executing civilians. It should be noted that the Malian military have been in a decade long battle with rebels linked with the al-Qaeda and ISIL and ISIS terrorist groups.

Many civilians have pointed towards the direction of foreign soldiers in perpetrating the crimes against humanity in Mali.

It's been identified that most of the foreign fighters are from Russian descent, which have received stiff complains by the Western governments.

The presence of Russian mercenaries have led France to pull off her troops in Mali and the last batch of French soldiers left Mali in August 15.

The reduction in manpower, which is as a result of the pulling out of French troops have increased the casualties in the ongoing conflict in Mali. According to earlier reports, white-skinned soldiers accompanied the Malian soldiers in the operation that witnessed the killing of 35 civilians.

It's my humble submission that the United Nations in collaboration with the Malian military government to strategize means of eliminating human right abuses and incessant killings ongoing in Mali.
