Some cool Street Art based on photograms
For days now, I have had my eye on some works of street art that I have seen on my way home on billboards that are not in use. The pieces are inspired by well-known stills from the world of cinema.
Yesterday, when we returned home after running some errands, the husband asked me if I wanted to take some pictures of them, and of course, I said yes.
The first thing was to find out who was the artist behind these black and white paintings on the billboards that we thought were so cool. The hashtag on the first piece I photographed #applewhitismo led me to the artist's IG page. Her name is Susan Applewhite and from what I could see she has been doing street art in the streets of Caracas for a while now. A good part of his work is made with waste materials and some are of social protest. The ones I'm going to show you today are inspired by movie stills, and some of them have funny names.
The first one that we found while driving along Raul Leoni Avenue or better known as Boulevard del Cafetal is inspired by the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Only that the artist has called it Breakfast with Empanadas.
Do you like empanadas? I love them.
These posters seem to be painted on paper and pasted on the billboards. This one is next to a bus stop.
We kept driving on the main avenue and looking for the posters that we had already seen these days.
The next one is a stick boy. Although not from the photogram series is also from the artist.
It has the phrase "Back to basics".
On the same billboard, but on the back there was another work of the artist.
It was based on the twins from The Shining. But someone, I guess trying to take it away, tried to take it off and broke it.
We continued down the same main avenue and came across the sign that my husband and I first noticed days ago.
This one, based on the well-known image from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, is my husband's favorite.
The artist called this one PSYCHOCRISEO.
From there, we went to another nearby street, Av. Circunvalación del Sol. There, on a billboard next to a bus stop, is another sign.
It is inspired by the image of the character Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
And very cleverly, the artist calls this one La Magia de Haz, which translates as The Magic of Doing.
I love street art. It has always seemed to me that it gives life to the streets of the city. And certainly, this artist Susana Applewhite is very creative in the way of expressing it, not only for these works but for all the ones I could see in her IG profile.
What do you think of them? Which one is your favorite?
Thank you for reading.

hey, 7 days for me! I have vote power :) still in 0, but will be pump
Hey, that's cool! You'll see little by little it will grow. You only need patience and perseverance :)
Thanks! I'm trying...
I loved this. And meeting the artist. Her art could be considered not ephemeral but (very ephemeral) It is not the same as graffiti, because these works on paper can be ripped off by anyone, but I guess in her concept is contained that intention.
I bring you some music to your post, forgive the boldness.
I was thinking about Back to basic, what could be the reference?
I also believe that in the concept of the work is the fact that anyone can remove it.
And thanks so much for the "boldness" hehe. I love that you brought some music to the post.
To me, what can be more basic than drawing figures with sticks?
Yes, but since these are films...
I googled but haven't had time to look much, maybe it refers to one in particular.
There is no reference to movies on that one. I think it is an earlier work that was left there. From what I saw on her IG, before she had placed other works on some of those same billboards.
😎 Great investigative work here. Ready to open up a private detective office? hahaha... just kidding.
Breakfast with Empanadas it has to be as Audrey Hepburn was one of my favourite actresses of all Super Eli 💙
I also love Audrey Hepburn, Super Ed. Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my all-time favorite movies. 💙
And what can I say about empanadas, if they weren't so bad for the health, I could have an empanada for breakfast every day:)
It is an absolute classic Super Eli
Black and white still stands the test of time, it's good to reuse those materials in something nice to make those spaces more enjoyable. Saludos @coquicoin 🤗
Thank you for stopping by :)
My previous @v4vapp proposal has expired. I have a new one which is running but unfunded right now. I'm still running @v4vapp and all my other services.
I've just updated v4v.app and I'm getting ready for some exciting new features after the next hard fork.
Please consider asking your friends to vote for prop #265 or consider unvoting the return vote.
For understandable reasons in the current crypto climate it is harder to get funded by the DHF, I accept this so I'm asking a wider audience for help again. I will also redraft this proposal with more details (coming soon). I'm also looking for other funding sources.
Additionally you can also help with a vote for Brianoflondon's Witness using KeyChain or HiveSigner
If you have used v4v.app I'd really like to hear your feedback, and if you haven't I'd be happy to hear why or whether there are other things you want it to do.
That’s so cool to see these around. It makes you look twice.
Thanks for sharing @coquicoin
Yep, love empanadas too 😊
Have a wonderful weekend 👋🏻🌺☀️

Wow!...A fantastic series of photos in this great idea of street art, it hurts about the vandalized work :( But I loved seeing this!
I loved watching Dorothy... Awww, scenes from the movie immediately came to my mind when I went to see it with my parents in a cinema in Barquisimeto in the 70s!...
Thanks for sharing @coquicoin friend!
