Managing Budget while going on Vacation

Every one of us wants to go out for vacation once in a while but the main constraint which is for everyone is time and money. Time can be manageable to some extent by taking leaves from the office but managing the money is quite a problem. Recently I have gone on a vacation for a week and thus it was really hard to manage the budget when you actually go out. When you are on vacation, it is very easy to get carried away and thus we have to ensure that we have a planned budget for the trip.

But again planning is different whereas managing or sticking to the budget is another thing. As I said, I too have planned my budget before going on vacation but I exceeded the budget by around 30%, which is actually quite a big jump. So this is the first time happened to me as I exceeded the budget this much, I usually go out of budget by 10% or so. But this can happen to anyone so the best way is to keep a buffer of 20 to 25% of the total budget. For me, there was a lot of unplanned expenses which has happened while on vacation and thus because of that my budget exceeded the limit.

The other problem was, we have planned ahead like 3 months back and thus we have got our flights as well as hotel bookings at a reasonable range but the problem is with the covid happened in last week of Jan, we have to postpone our trip for like one month and thus because of that, we have to reschedule our flights and hotel bookings, our 10% budget was spent on the rescheduling. So it is not like that, you can save big by planning ahead, there can be unforeseen circumstances that can actually make your budget exceed just like in my case.

Also, try to stay in a budget-friendly hotel as well as go to a budget-friendly restaurant. For us once in a while, we have spent too much on the food when we went to a lavish restaurant to eat something good, which was actually increased our budget to a great extent. One more problem which I have faced for managing a budget is that you actually do not get all the information about everything on the internet so it's better to actually talk to some agent where you are going to actually get the idea of how much you have to spend.

We also thought that if we do not take any packages we are good and we will be spending less, but looks like somewhere getting the packages is actually good when you are going for a long duration vacation. When I compared my spending with the packages offered, it looks like I could have saved 5 to 10% of my spending. But again from the packages, you actually have limited time but when you go by your own you can actually decide what to see and whatnot. So yeah, either memories or money, which we have to decide.
