Record Breaking Drought in Italy Threatens Food production and Water supply as Italy's longest River Drying off
Its now been taken to the next level as the devastating effect of the adverse weather condition threatens human survival on planet earth. Left to be understood if we are into regression of the dark age or progressing forward as to what climatic change has served in our minds. The latest being that experienced in Italy nurturing hunger strike as food production is been threatened and fuming the drying up of the longest river in Italy to prove its effect and to the extent to be expected the more.
Italy’s Po River, a vital source of water for drinking, agriculture and energy production in northern Italy, is suffering its worst drought in 70 years.
The record low water levels have prompted emergency measures to be imposed across the regions of Piedmont and Lombardy.In some areas, the Po River, normally a wide stretch of murky water, has become a beach. Curious residents wander along the expanse of sand now exposed after the water reached critically low levels.source
Getting worse and worse all the way as the adverse weather condition contributes to the bad aura been faced in the world generally. How then is humans been harmed more if the means of survival is ceased or threatened to be shortened. Some countries depends on some natural comings for means of livelihood. These include: fertile land,different seasons which fosters the increase in yield of different crops,sorts of minerals and many more,if by chance or Amy factors these areas are been threatened then is survival hampered. In addition to the agricultural base of living,heat wave or long period of drought pays into the biological systems of humans and ecosystem at large.
Leaders in the affected regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna are calling for a state of emergency to be declared. The water level continues to drop daily and there is little hope of respite on the horizon. No rain is forecast and areas of northern Italy are set to experience a heat wave of temperatures up to 36 degrees Celcius in the coming days.source
Already being documented because of this severe drought is the fact that the rationale for using of water is been monitored as water now being minimized and before being used is drafted according to the scale of preference just to show how worst it has become. Farmers which serves as means of livelihood and survival to the country are becoming tired of irrigation as no enough water for normal daily activity talking more of farming. The rate of food production being reduced to about 30-40 percent as the drought has caused a lot of damage already. Taking this to hamper into electricity supply is the fact that the river contributes to electricity supply to the said region and if this is been threatened then electricity is in a shamble state too. Imagining the worst that could be done if this continues to have a greater part in the country, what could be the lifespan of the citizens if this season of drought not been brought to an end.
