Brilliancy deserves a better reward
Take it or leave it, Education is losing its value and this is because of what students who are still in school and those who graduated experienced.

People will be put in a building for a few weeks doing indecent stuff and at the end of it, they will be rewarded with a lot of money and endorsement. These things make me angry like what kind of world are we in where bad things are being promoted and good things are being ignored... There are brilliant people in this world, we also have the intelligent ones but they do not see the need to work so hard in their studies since it can't pay their bills in future, those who studied day and night to become the best in their set only to be rewarded with a ridiculous amount of money are a good example that others don't want to be like.
This is one reason to dissuade others from schooling and education because they realize it can not pay their bills, we are in a world where immorality is being rewarded and the real things that are supposed to be rewarded are being ignored.

If Education was really rewarding, then top students during school days should go far in life but it is not often so, and sometimes the dullards are the ones making it in life...
It is worst in Higher Institutions where 60 percent of the students just want to have the certificate, most are in school for different missions, some come for fun and connection, some come to flirt and womanizer, and some come to show off. So many other reasons, the studious ones are few.
Can we blame them? it is not as if the moment you graduate there is a job waiting for you with good pay, most time you have to dump the certificate and hustle like an illiterate to make it in life.
If there is a reward for top students, I am sure a lot of students will start taking their education seriously again, instead of all the money being poured into worthless immoral stuff like Bb Naija, they can channel such money into rewarding brilliant students and we would see a lot of genius being born again because competitions among student will increase.
We read news talking about the best students in Jamb, the best student in this and that but never have I heard that such students were giving millions of Naira to motivate and encourage others to want to be like them, the last one I saw the student was rewarded with 100 000 Naira!
Misplaced priorities and I hope this can be fixed before more people lose interest in Education.

@burlarj as you called it, it is misplaced priority. Infact, I don't think there's any priority in the first place.
Much more than what it happening, I feel it is the absence of sensible people in matters of government. The ones that are there are fuelling the frivolities oozing from their minds!!

I know right! Some will think it is out of place to encourage students with cash prizes but it is not at all especially in the current situation we are today. Most students will do a lot better if what they know is putting food on the table.
As students, we see how a lot of us leave our studies to go and seek for our daily bread and we end up not become the best we would have loved to be.
Cash prizes for academic excellence should be encouraged because in all ramifications, it is not easy for any student even the one that we see as very intelligent or bright.
I don't see any thing bad in rewarding excellency, workers put more effort in their work when they are rewarded by their boss, the same goes for other set so it should not be different for student.

Real misplaced priorities, I am just willing to read that those people who scored so high are offered scholarships into the best schools and the course of their choice but nah, I don't hear that. Don't be supervised that some of them may not gain admission at the end of the day.
So many bad things are being rewarded with huge amount of money while academic excellence is not in any way celebrated. My country is gradually losing its straight in education and I hope something is being done ASAP.

I love the word: misplaced priority. Instead of channeling those monetary gifts to the right place like education, they use it for the wrong purpose. Children needs to be motivated and this will boost their academic performance.

You're so right good friend. It's sad how things are valued these days. Education should be the priority, not other things. If students were rewarded for their hard work, maybe more would take it seriously.
The another thing is highly skilled and educated person are going abroad and they don't have any intention to return because they know that there country system doesn't value their education. Based on my country situation sometimes I feel the uneducated politician decide whom to give a job or not. At the end of the day the educated person some how germinated by illiterate uneducated politician. So there is nothing to blame who stop their study or stop being serious about their study.
