#threetunetuesday: Songs to get lit to!

image.png

It's a pretty rare occasion when my wife and I go camping that we don't find ourselves around a campfire at the end of the day. It either has to be so hot that starting a fire would be madness or raining so hard that even if you did start one it would go out immediately. Even then, we have been known to try on occasion...

Thanks to @dbooster, I have been listening to quite a lot of Japanese Jazz lately, and while I think Jazz is perfect for any occasion, it isn't @mrsbozz's favorite genre, so around the campfire, we listen to other things.

It probably won't surprise you that the first songs that come to mind when I'm sitting around a campfire are often country songs. Sure, the hair metal scene of the 80's was one hell of a party with all the sex, drugs, and rock and roll, but when I think about sitting around a campfire and "getting lit", country music is often the soundtrack of that activity.

If you don't like country music, I apologize in advance. It's okay, nobody's perfect, I understand. I'm kidding of course, I used to not care for country music myself, but as a lover of all music, I came to appreciate the storytelling that country music does so well.

So here we go, "Songs to get lit to", my #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze

I notice on some of my older posts that my embeds were getting stripped away, so if that is the case, hopefully the Direct Links to YouTube will still work for you.

"Bonfire at Tina's" falls into a couple of categories for me. Not only is it a great song to drink to, it's also a song that I have been playing on repeat for quite a while now. This song is actually part of a new album by one of my favorite artists Ashley McBryde called Lindeville. Some of the songs are a little goofy, but the whole album is a bit of a concept piece about life in the small town of Lindeville.

It even has some made up commercials thrown in there. It kind of reminds me of an old radio show if you listen to the whole thing through. That or a musical. I wouldn't be shocked if they turned it into a proper show one day.

Either way, Bonfire at Tina's is probably the best song on the album for me. I left it playing while I was writing this paragraph and I actually forgot I was writing for a second because I was so busy watching the video.

Ashley McBryde is pretty cool, my wife and I got to see her live a little bit ago and it was probably one of the best shows I have ever been to. I know everyone says that about every show they go to, but I really mean it for her. It was a small venue and she just killed it. Ashley McBryde just has that vibe like it would be a lot of fun to sit around and get drunk with her.

Who am I kidding, she'd drink me under the table!

If anyone had a voice tailor made for country music, Randy Houser would be in the top ten for sure. He has a bunch of amazing songs, but like I said, this one has been on repeat for me for several weeks now.

I almost used "songs you play on repeat" as my theme for this week instead of "songs to get lit to", but this just seemed to fit a bit more.

We were sitting around the campfire this past weekend on the shores of Lake Huron and this song came on. I pointed out to @mrsbozz that it must have been written a while ago because I don't know of a bar where you can actually "light one up" inside anymore. Sure, there are probably a couple backwoods ones here and there, but I think they are pretty rare.

This song just has a really cool vibe to it and I wanted to share it with you this week. I'll be the first to admit I find myself taking a few more sips of my adult beverage when this song starts playing. It's just that kind of jam.

I probably should have finished with another raucous party song, but this song just kept coming to mind for me. Let's set the stage shall we? It's close to the end of the night around the campfire. You've been partying hard to all those hard rockin' country songs.

You're running out of wood and the fire is starting to burn just a bit lower. Which is fine because the stars are out now and without the huge fire it's amazing just how many you can see. You're down to the last dozen sips of your drink of choice, and this song comes on.

"Angel Flying too close to the ground" is one of those songs that @mrsbozz and I love. It's not technically "our song", but it's one that we both have a lot of mutual appreciation and respect for. In fact, it's on our unspoken "do not skip" list. So anytime it comes on, no matter what mood we are in, we can't jump past it.

Part of what I love about it is the fact that it highlights Willie's guitar skills. Most people focus on his unique voice and they forget that he is quite an accomplished guitar player. I really like how he uses those notes on the low end to highlight certain points in the song.

I think this is one of Willie's best pieces of work, and if you know Willie, you know his catalog is huge. There was a point a while ago I felt like he was putting out a new album every month. It was crazy.

Let's be honest, when it comes to country music, there are a ton of drinking songs that I could have used. I hope these three that I hand selected are something you maybe haven't heard before and maybe, just maybe one of them becomes your new favorite drinking song.

Do you have a go-to song for when you are throwing back a couple? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Great selection Bozz. I am not really listening to much country music except the classics and the most popular hit ones where you would normally know all the words. It really gives you that heart-warming American feel and I can picture you round the Feuerschale as we would call it here with some tunes and your favorite drink! Do you have any more camping on the table this year? I was showing my wife your trailer photo as they so big compared to over here.

We had hoped to get some fall camping in, but we have an anniversary trip coming up and we have to get down to see my nieces play fall softball, so I think we might be done for this year. Plus our dog is getting older and she needs more attention from us. We want to make the most of the time she has left with us and we usually have to board her when we go camping. Our trailer is 26 feet, so actually kind of small compared to some of the rigs out there now. The new models that have slide outs really give you a ton more space for your money.

Songs to get lit to is right @bozz, these were great listening. I can imagine these being blasted out nicely around the camp fire, happy days..

It's going great. in which we light a fire and the rain extinguishes it, Music brings us a sweetness in which we can make something special.

For sure!

Great selections! Country music does have more than it's fair share of drinking songs, all those friends in low places and all. Randy has a great voice for country, like he was born for it. And you can never go wrong with Willie. Looks like you guys enjoyed that nice campfire that night!

We did, it was pretty epic. We bought a quarter face cord of wood for the weekend and we made sure to burn all of it. I was going to throw Friends in Low Places here, but I wanted to pick some more obscure stuff that people maybe haven't heard of before.

Willie Nelson the only one I recognize, did enjoy the ladies video and music, Randy has a great voice for style of music.

When it comes to American country music my all time favourite from back when...., John Denver brought country words and song to life, even over the big pond.

John Denver is a classic. There are some old country fans that don't think he was country enough, but I think he is pretty great.

Watching travel documentaries I hear a lot more country music now than ever before, very talented people.

Well I have heard of Willie Nelson, and when you say songs around a campfire in the US then country would be the genre I think of first.

Thanks! Willie is pretty universal!

hehe I would say so!

I think I've told you before that I'm not a country fan to say the least... So many country songs are just lazy songwriting, like something an AI would write. That said, there have been exceptions. Johnny Cash, obviously. Willie has some great hits. And who can't love some of Charlie Daniels stuff.

But anyway I did listen to your picks, just to give them a try. The Willie song was nice!

There are so artists who do a better job than others. I prefer the ones who write their own songs versus having them farmed out. McBryde is a perfect example of that. She has some great stuff. You know they say country is just three chords and the truth, so simple is definitely on the nose. There's some country stuff out there that is just plain hokey, I don't deny that!

I haven't heard this song, thanks to you that's not the case now. All of them is good but I already found my favorite, I love song number 2 because of how and awesome his voice is, it's a good song while having a beer on the side of the house, then accompanied by a smoke coming from grilling a barbecue 🍺

0.00034525 BEE

That does fit the bill quite perfectly! It's definitely one of my favorite songs right now! Beer and BBQ go perfect together!
