Thoughts from a sunrise

I've been wanting to share some photos my wife @mrsbozz took for a while now. I figured today is as good a day as any since I am struggling to find a single topic to write about. Today is the day that we take our dog Jovi into to get some major tests done. We have to drive her about an hour down to the lab to get the work done and even when she was younger she never really traveled that well.

I'm nervous that the drive is going to take a toll on her both emotionally and physically, not to mention the trauma of all the tests they will likely do. It's not that I don't think they are caring and capable (I wouldn't be taking her there if I had my doubts), but she has always had a lot of anxiety, so this is likely going to be hard on her.

I mentioned to @tattoodjay last week about how I think a lot of people are so focused on getting those great sunset photos that they forget to look for the sunrise photos as well. The pictures I am going to share today are all of the sunrise and as I said, they were all taken by my wife.

The first one is looking out the front window of our house towards the East. Just about twenty one miles away due east is the southernmost point of the Saginaw Bay. Look at the back of your left hand and imagine it is the state of Michigan, the Saginaw Bay is part of Lake Huron and rests between the forefinger and the thumb.

@mrsbozz and I work for a public school district that sits right on the coast of the Saginaw Bay. That means each morning we have to drive about a half hour toward the North and East to get to work. This often gives us some pretty amazing views of the sunrise in the morning.

Usually not during the Winter though. It's dark as night at 6 in the morning during the winter. In the summer on the other hand, the colors are brilliant enough to make you stand in awe of them.

These next photos were taken after we were already at work. I work in a different building from my wife and unfortunately, the lone window in my office faces West. That means many mornings, I don't even know what is going on 180 degrees in the other direction unless I happen to be out of my office walking around.

Thankfully, @mrsbozz has a window that kind of faces that way, so she was able to snap these amazing shots.

I'm half tempted to throw a camera up on our radio tower and make it public so everyone can enjoy the views that we get on a daily basis. Like I said, my window faces West, but I think skies like this are more common than you would think.

There's the occasional morning that I can see a strong pink or purple glow outside my window and I know that the sun must be putting on quite a show to the east.

I was going to try to turn this post into some long winded, introspective, philosophical thing about how we often miss something that is right in front of us because we are looking in the wrong direction, but honestly, I think the photos kind of speak for themselves.

It's too early on a Monday for you to be listening to me babble on anyway.

20240117_075434.jpg

You can probably tell the photos were taken with a cell phone. I think my wife has a Samsung S21 Plus or something like that. It might be an S22. I'm actually surprised it was able to capture the pinks and purples so well. Many times those colors seem to get washed out when you use a smartphone to take photos.

If I had to venture a guess she probably didn't adjust the settings at all either. She likely just quickly fired off a couple of shots because she had to get back to helping out students. I'm glad she took the time to snag these though and I hope that you enjoy them as well!

Now I need to start thinking about making that sunrise cam thing a reality. I could maybe go viral!

Hey, the sunrise is such a beautiful sight, isn't it? There's something so peaceful and hopeful about watching the world wake up and start a new day. It's like a fresh start every morning.

People only chase sunset photos because they don't want to wake up early for sunrises ;)

Sounds like you have a great location for catching these. When I was in the states, I'd always take my camera with me (this was back before smartphones, so my camera was a big dslr) and I'd be pulling over on a drive at least once every day to photo something. If we had skies like that in Indiana I would have been pulling over constantly!

When I take the train in the morning or evening here I see sunrises/sunsets a lot. Being so close to the ocean, we get really nice ones. Often it is so crowded in the train I can't get any photos, but I do enjoy the eye candy.

That's kind of how it is here in Michigan too with the great lakes on either side of us. We get some pretty amazing sunrises and sunsets. If you are lucky enough to be on one of the islands you can see both from just about the same place! My dad used to take his camera around with him everywhere too. I've thought occasionally about pulling over, but I usually am too afraid of getting hit!

Totally agree, sunset are overrated 😜waking up early and feel the fresh air while the sun comes out thats cooler, at least for me, when it comes to pets usually they get stress out different than humans, I have a friend that his dog cant travel long distances on a car because he gets sick, starts to throw up and when he needs to go on a ride over say 30 min he has to stop in the middle of the ride to take his dog out for some air and walk him before they can continue, little details only pet owners get, I have fish tanks and fish gets stress out and sick just because of temperature 🤷‍♂️

The problem is, most of the year when I first wake up , it is still dark outside!

Those are some great shots. Kudos to the misses. I agree we all take the little things for granted on a daily basis. While I like sunrises, sunsets in the summer are my favorite.
Good luck on your camera project.

The sunrise cam is a great idea! She caught some great colors :)

My prayers are with Jovi, I hope it's nothing serious...

Thanks! I think the hardest part of the camera would be getting someone to go up to mount it. I don't really do heights, so it won't be me!

I'm sure someone would be happy to do it :) It's just finding someone who is interested.

Beautiful sunrises! I love seeing the colored clouds in the morning. Great shots! None today for me though, it's been raining forever now!

Beautiful colors! We're having similar colors during sunset here in Minnesota, you can really see that Spring is somewhat around the corner.

It certainly feels like it! They are calling for temps in the 50s by the end of the week.

When the sky is like this, it's good to have a walk and a hot coffee.

We catch a few good ones now and again. I usually see them as I am driving into work.. 45/50 minute commute. When I decide to work from home, that is when I get a chance to run out to the lake and grab a nice shot.

These are good ones you guys got today!

Thanks, I need to make the couple minute drive down to the lakeshore one of these mornings and grab those. It's usually when the buses are getting here that the colors really come out in the winter.

I was stunned by these photos. It was really nice picture. Sunsets can really give some hints or reflections to our lives (since I'm also a sunset lover). Thank you so much for sharing this. 😊

Both sunrises and sunsets have a special vibe that makes you reflect on things differently, as well as see things from a new perspective in general. Beautiful shots btw!
