Raining in Burlington: A #threetunetuesday post

I'm having a difficult time writing this post today. Even more so than the one yesterday and you would think if I could get that one out, this should be easy... I had a plan as to where this #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze was going to go, but then I got to work and I am just not feeling it.

The other theme feels too flippant, too happy for the mood that I am in right now. If you read my post yesterday, you know that this is a very difficult time in my life. There just isn't a whole lot that brings me joy right now. Even writing where I usually find solace is kind of a chore.

I'm usually the type of person where music isn't too hard to come by. I have song for pretty much everything. You name a situation, I can probably tell you a song that fits it quite well. I'm just drawing blank today.

Okay, sort of blank. I'm still going to try to scrape together three songs to share with you, I just haven't decided on half of them yet.

I guess we will see where this goes together.

If I had to pick a specific theme for today, it would probably be sadness, or somberness. Something mellow and slow that fits the mood I am in.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I am a pretty big Indigo Girls fan. I would argue (and probably lose because I suck at arguing) that their self titled album is one of the best that has ever been made. It easily lands in my top 10 favorite albums of all time.

There just isn't a bad song on the thing.

Along with U2 and some other bands, that album was a staple of my angsty teenage years. "Love's Recovery" definitely has that mellow vibe I was looking for, but the harmonies and lyric work on it is to me something otherworldly.

"Nobody gets a lifetime rehearsal, as specks of dust, we're universal"

I mean dang, that lyric just hits so hard right now with me after the recent loss @mrsbozz and I have suffered. I think the key thing to remember with this song is it kind of ends on a note of hope. Deep down, I know everything is going to be okay, and things will get better, but hope is one thing that I really need to be reminded of right now.

Isn't it interesting how many of the saddest or more somber songs are pretty much always about love? Of course there are many different kinds of love and love can take on many shapes and forms, but the emotions associated with love are always intense.

You're going to laugh at me, but I will always remember an episode of Grey's Anatomy where one of the characters was talking about their relationship and they said something like "I think this relationship is going to destroy me" then the other character said "It wouldn't be love if it didn't".

That whole exchange has always stuck with me because it shows just how powerful love can be, both the good side of it and the bad.

"Love is blindness" by U2 is another one of those songs that got played quite frequently when I was that "angsty" teen laying in my bedroom wondering about love and life. Bono (I'm assuming it was Bono) did a really good job with the lyrics on this one. The comparisons he uses for love really show darkness it can contain and how it can engulf you.

Finally, this post would not be complete if I didn't include a little bit of Counting Crows. "Raining in Baltimore" isn't my favorite song from their August and Everything After Album. In fact, it probably doesn't even make the top five list of songs on that album, but there is a sadness about it that I really felt goes well with this post.

Adam Duritz's vocals just really make this song come alive. You can almost picture yourself sitting in an apartment in Baltimore looking out the window and watching the rain come down. Once again, this song seems to be about love, more specifically, missing someone that you love.

Pretty fitting given the fact that we are missing Jovi something fierce right now. I'd be lying if I said the days haven't been getting better. We are definitely going longer and longer between breakdowns now, but it's safe to say that both @mrsbozz and I are still in a very somber place right now and we probably will be for a while.

Yes, we only got a partial one, but it was still pretty cool to see.

Three great choices there! I can see the darkness you're going through. I've been there and remember those teen days of stupidity thinking about those relationships when you're too young to really understand them yet...

I wish you the best, it's hard losing a member of the family like Jovi, it takes time. Like I said, I still don't have another dog.

It's funny how the two things can be so closely tied together, but at lot of the feelings I am having now are very familiar. It's going to be a long long time before my wife and I are ready to open ourselves to that again. If ever.

I don't think I knew any of those, but I can see how they would fit your mood. Music can be a comfort or take us somewhere depending on our needs. It's a very powerful force.
