Friday Finance 7/28/2023: Officially an Orca (For real this time)

If you imagine really really hard, you might be able to picture my Orca butt swimming around out there in the depths of Lake Superior. I know I alluded to the fact a while ago that I was close to hitting "Orca" status, and while Peakd may have indicated I was already one, the actual event didn't happen until just the other day.

The loose application of Orca takes place at 56,000 Hive powered up, but the official title doesn't take effect until you have 100 million shares vested.

In my case, I hit that just the other day when I powered up my daily Hive earnings like I do each morning during the week.

Vesting shares 100,259,363.409030 VESTS

It floats a little I think, but the actual number is something like 56,600 Hive powered up. I even got the comment as a system message from that bot on Hive that reminds you of special occasions. It was pretty awesome.

Speaking of pretty awesome, it's time for another Friday Finance post.

finance Friday.png

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the Leo community.

The majority of my finance talk this week is going to be focused on my account. Hitting Orca is a big deal for me. I have been working towards this for over five years now. It took a lot of persistence and hard work, but this is proof that you get what you put into Hive. It's not a free ride, but if you make a commitment and stick to it, anything is possible!

In case you missed it, the FED raised interest rates again in the US yesterday. Despite that fact, the price of crypto seems to be holding pretty steady and even gone up in a few cases. Hive and HBD are perfect examples of that.

I'm also going to make this a #marketfriday post sponsored by @dswigle.

When we go camping with our friends, it is pretty common that I become the defacto tour guide. This usually means I set a loose itinerary for us and I am typically in charge of selecting places for us to eat.

After we visited Presque Isle park, we were becoming a bit peckish and as I mentioned above, it fell on me to select a place to eat. I took a brief poll and it sounded like everyone was okay with sandwiches so I did a quick map search of the Marquette area and we found ourselves at TOGO's.

IMG20230712132607.jpg

TOGO's touts themselves as Marquette's original submarine sandwich. That, along with the fact that they are in a kind of hole in the wall building told me right away that this lunch was probably going to be pretty amazing.

IMG20230712134242.jpg

In addition to that, they were absolutely packed with a lunch crowd. That should give you a pretty good indication that this place was going to be quite amazing. I was a little intimidated at first to be honest. There were a lot of people in here and not a lot of places to sit.

We quickly staked our claim to a couple of tables (since there was six of us), and then I grabbed a menu so everyone could select what they wanted to eat.

They had a pretty cool counter with all manner of specialty goods that were house made right in the location. Given it was a sandwich shop, it was stuff like sauces and giardiniera's. I think they also had house made pickles and deli salads as well.

IMG20230712134441.jpg

Like any good deli or sandwich shop worth its salt, they had a ton of choices on the menu. It was a bit difficult to figure out what to get, but I ultimately settled on the classic Italian sub. I got it on wheat bread and I only got a half a sub.

It came with salami, mortadella, ham, and pretty much every other wonderful thing you can imagine between two pieces of bread! It was fantastic.

I've gotta be honest, I don't remember exactly what @mrsbozz got for her sandwich. I do know that she got a half sandwich like me and she also got it on wheat bread. If I had to guess, it was probably some kind of club sandwich with either turkey or chicken and some other yummy stuff. She agreed it was a really great sandwich, but I think the consensus among the group was that the bread was fantastic.

It was truly the star of the show. They make it daily in house at the location and it was like heaven in your mouth. No cap.

IMG20230712134518.jpg

Our nephew continued his quest of having beef for every meal during our trip by getting a custom cheese steak sandwich. It had shaved ribeye, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, and mayonnaise. I got his on white bread because I wasn't sure how he would feel about wheat bread, but I am pretty sure he had his sandwich gone before we had two bites gone of ours.

That growing boy can sure put the food away! He is so active that he easily burns most of it off though.

I didn't get photos of our friends meals, but they all agreed this was a good choice, so my record as the defacto tour guide and event coordinator is still intact.

One of the things I love about places like this that have been around for a long long time is that they are proud of their history and they often display it for all to see on the walls.

It's pretty typical for hometown joints in tourist towns like Marquette to have frames all over the establishment with photos like this in them. You can definitely see that TOGO's has been a mainstay in Marquette over the years and through the seasons.

It's places like this that make #marketfriday so awesome.

I hope you enjoyed this Friday Finance, #marketfriday mashup. If you are ever up in the Marquette area, I highly recommend you stop in to TOGO's, there is a reason Northern Michigan University grads make it one of their first stops when they are back in town!

Great post Bozz! I didn't expect the twist towards the TOGO place, good to see you finding such good places. Do they toast the subs like in Subway too?

Congrats on the Orca status, very well earned! Nice to see a 5 year goal come to fruitian.

They do toast the sandwiches if you ask them to. There are also some selections that come already toasted.

When we see so many choices in the menu then it really gets difficult to select one.

Congrats on Orca status. The level is about 56586 HP and it creeps up all the time. There are about 270 of us right now.

I am looking forward to trying some American food when I am over there. I hope they cater for us non-carnivores ;) I may need to do some running to burn off the calories.

If you stick to the big cities you will likely find a lot of vegetarian places. Plus, along the coast there will always be seafood options.

We do eat fish, so I expect we'll be fine. I'll have to log my experiences.

I bought some on the other chain, but most of my growth has been organic. It's been a really long road, but worth it.

That’s awesome congrats on hitting orca! I am hopefully goin to eventually get to that status as well one of these days, I’m a lot closer than I was before and thankfully as you get more hive power that curation rewards kicks up quite a bit which is nice, helps give some good boosts towards orca!

I love your #MarketFriday mashup with Finance news and hello, Orca!!! Congratulations! Darn! I am at 55,836.000 so maybe soonish for me! It has been a lot of work and fun along the way, so I hear what you are saying. For me, almost 100% is earned from posting. Where else can we get that kind of return on a social media site?

Now, let's talk about those sub sandwiches!!! Yum! They look just like deli sandwiches used to look like! I love the generous portions of meat and cheese and all the yumminess of the veggies stuffed inside. Enough without being too much. You can do too much! Those sandwiches spoke of perfection! I love when a plan comes together.

All the old framed pictures remind me of being home in New England. Being right out of NYC, a lot of stars passed through to eat, drink, and sometimes sleep and would get their pictures taken at the small mom-and-pop restaurants - to be forever hung on the wall. It is always fun to see what the places looked like or who ate there.

You always give the best tours and directing us to the best eats on the street! Thank you, always!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

I know what you are saying about sometimes a sandwich being too much. I had one other day that was good, but it was almost impossible to eat. It was just too much. We have some places that put up famous people who have dined there was well. One of my favorites is a place called Pete's down in Pontiac, MI. It's been a lot of fun doing these posts as a mash up!

It has actually been really fun reading them as well. It blends an eclectic mix of things, quite unexpected, and keeps it fresh!

Thanks for including #MarketFriday!
