Battle Mage Secrets Challenge - Stampede

stampede.jpg

Hey Splinterheads, I hope you are all having a great Splinterday!

The Battle Mage Secrets Challenge is a wonderful and effective way to get to know rulesets better and improve your gameplay. Not only do you study and analyse rulesets and example battles closely, you also get to read and see what other Splinterheads are thinking and doing with their little darlings on the battlefield.

With many battles now being comprised of 3 rulesets, it is important to know your rulesets well, how they relate to other rulesets and what corresponding cards work well to either exploit the ruleset or defend against it. We have also seen a number of new rulesets coming into the game lately and a bunch of new monsters have received new abilities.

The game is becoming more and more technical, leaving you with ever decreasing chances of winning battles with sheer brute force and overkill strategies. All these reasons and the clear challenge that players (and bots unfortunately) are getting „smarter“ all the time underscore the need to know rulesets very well. The Battle Mage Secrets Challenge helps and motivates us players further to do just that.

In today's challenge we are looking at the Stampede ruleset.

Stampede

The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed.

Higher HP and speed are the key in this ruleset. Dispel helps to remove Trample.

The Stampede ruleset is a very elusive ruleset. I have been an active Splinterlands player for about two years and to this day, I have not witnessed a stampede once in any of my battles. I therefore don’t pay much attention to this ruleset. In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets Challenge, I will make sure to look through as many entries from other players as possible and will hopefully see what a stampede looks like. This is also the right moment for me to shout from the rooftops ‘Hey Spliterlands Team, make some new rulesets !!!’

This ruleset requires monsters with Trample. A Trample needs to occur and then for a stampede to trigger, the trampling monsters needs to continuously kill enemy monsters one by one. Apparently, a stampede is then able to wipe out the entire enemy team in one go. This is not an easy circumstance to achieve, as only melee monsters have Trample and there is usually tons of shield around, which would bring the desired stampede to a halt. I willl be on the lookout to witness one of these in one a post of one of my fellow players. I wonder if I will find one…

The battle stats are the following:
RULESETS: Unprotected, Stampede, Explosive Weaponry
MANA: 22
AVAILABLE SPLINTERS: all except green

Technically, I should have immediately gone for Possibilus to get a chance to stage a stampede but in a low mana battle, I chose to save mana on the Summoner and, as I said, the Stampede ruleset doesn't rank highly on my popularity scale. I also decided not to go running to get a Tample monster for this bout. Nevertheless, here is the team I put together:

QUIX THE DEVIOUS is by far my most used summoner for any situation. I love the range and speed debuffs he imposes on my enemy and the added choices provided by the Dragon splinter. I recently leveled him up to max level, so here he is leading the team as he should!

BAAKJIRA is a great tank at max level. He has monstrous 16 health and a bunch of abilities: Void, Slow, Strengthen and Heal. Although he is slow as a stoned snail, he gives himself a third speed and slows all enemy monsters down.

TIDE BITER is here in second position with Reflection Shield to smother Blast and attack with Reach. With 4 speed plus 1, he will attack early.

DHAMPIR INFILTRATOR is one of my favourite low mana Dragon monsters with Double Strike and Sneak. She also has Cripple and Affliction. What a power girl!

PELACOR BANDIT is here for speed and synergy with Dhampir Infiltrator to do lots of early Sneak damage.

NAGA ASSASSIN is another favourite low mana Dragon monster with Swiftness and Backfire. With 7 speed she will most likely attack first.

TORRENT FIEND is in the team to fill 6th position and place at the rear to act as cannon fodder for enemy Sneak attacks.

So now let's take a closer look at the battle in focus today. My opponent also went for a water team, without Possibilus and without Trample monsters. So much for the challenge ruleset...

round 1.jpg

Round one began with a shot from Naga Assassin, followed by a perfectly executed smack from Pelacor Bandit to get rid of Uraeus with a single shot. Great start! Pirate Archer was weakened by blast, only to be taken out by the Infiltrator. Tide Biter weakened Cruel Sethropod and Torrent Fiend had to go. Not much else happened here.

Round two began again with Naga Assassin, who swiftly assassinated Cruel Sethropod. The spectators were already beginning to leave the arena. The enemy Tide Biter moved to the front, Coral Wraith got toasted and the enemy Bandit died of blast. Dhampir Infiltrator got the crumbs and ended the battle. There was no stampede, but thanks for coming anyway.

Nicely done! How have you been doing? I figured out a lot looking at your template. When I have some more free time I'm going to have put together a template as well then making post will be a lot easier. It's time consuming at first!

Nice to hear from you! I have been well. we had a sand storm here during the weekend. we are still cleaning up.... yes the posting takes some figuring out at first and is quite time consuming. now I try my best to spend no more than 30-45 minutes on a post. that doesn't always work but I am getting there.
