The risks associated with ChatGPT based on the knowledge cut-off date and more

avatar

While there is real hype built around ChatGPT and many of us might be tempted to rush and use it for extensive purposes, I am not sure if all are aware also about the fact that the AI chatbot was fed information and knowledge until a specific cut-off date. The knowledge cut-off date for ChatGPT is the date until which the model has been trained with existing information on the Internet. This means that any events, facts, or information that have occurred after the cut-off date are not yet known to the model. The knowledge cut-off date for ChatGPT is 2021, which means that the model is aware of information that was available up until 2021 and will base its decisions and resolutions based on that. This is the first risk associated with using ChatGPT blindly and foolishly to use it as a deciding factor when applied to current realities and conditions.

When asked "What are the risks associated with using ChatGPT?" here is what the model responded and listed.

  1. Inaccurate or unreliable information: As a language model, ChatGPT is trained on a wide variety of text, which may include inaccurate or unreliable information. It's important to verify any information provided by the model before making decisions or taking actions based on it.
  2. Bias: The model is trained on a dataset that might contain bias and stereotypes, so it may perpetuate these biases in its responses.
  3. Lack of context: ChatGPT is a general-purpose model and may not have access to a specific context or background information that is necessary to provide accurate and relevant responses to certain questions.
  4. Lack of knowledge cut-off: As mentioned before, the model's knowledge cut-off date is 2021, so it doesn't have access to recent events or updates.
  5. Lack of explainability: The model's decisions or predictions are based on a complex set of calculations and it's difficult to understand or explain how the model arrived at a certain response.
  6. Privacy concerns: ChatGPT is a powerful tool for processing and understanding text, and there are potential privacy concerns associated with its use.

It is important to keep in mind that ChatGPT is a machine learning model and not a human, so it can make mistakes and it's always good practice to cross-check the responses with other sources. While I've played with it and was amazed at the responses provided and its creativity, I must say that we still need to use it precociously and not as a deciding making model. Not that I am not trusting the output provided by it, but rather that it needs to be validated from different trusted sources or a similar approach to this. I think this is a blink into what the future might reserve for us, but at the same, it is a matter of how much trust we can put into it. For frivolous things, it could be used easily and without too much thought, but otherwise, we should be attentive to it.

These are some of my thoughts on ChatGPT, what's your take on it?

It is good to be critical of this new technology.

I’m amazed at how good it is already, even with the above mentioned risks.

Im a bit confused to what it actually is? Is it a AI that you can ask questions or is it a search engine much like google?

Or

Is it something entirely different??

AI is a too-wide term as written also in the post "ChatGPT is a machine learning model", thus can assist based on the knowledge base and the way it handles it. Not sure about its creativity possibilities out of the knowledge base boundaries, which would add an AI element to it.

It's scary but insanely fun to toy with

Quite scary as you feel that it knows and can do more than you, thus fear installs in the mind very easy.

It still can't garden, far as I know 🤣 it just scares me because it learns, and we've seen in the movies when machines learn lol

I always said this, use Chat-GPT for an Idea and then use Human Brain to do something from that Idea.

Indeed, I just had some fun asking it to come up with some gameplay ideas and it was somehow inline with what I was thinking about.

I have been finding big issues with it due to the lack up updated data. I have learned that if you feed it current information, it helps but it can still be wrong.

We are working for a tool for Coin Logic that actually scrapes the site for updated information and then feeds the GPT api to give a summary. So it can be used like perplexity.ai does to give more updated answers.

In other words, we still have a while to go before people start losing jobs over it.

That is true and one thing it will happen is that people will not lose jobs to AI, but to people knowing how to use AI. And just these days I have used ChatGPT to write me some Java classes handling some stuff with files that I have used at work. On the technical side, I think it has enough knowhow to assist; on information, news and accuracy still a long way.

I am using it to write some php scripts for Wordpress and such so that’s been fun. Trying to build on for a Hive to WP login, but having to feed it the new APIs

That's pretty cool. I've considered from the get-go when discovered the Hive blockchain that it was the Decentralized Blogspot, thus what you're doing quite makes sense. Good luck!

Technology going to much fast day by day. Its helps to the human to spend his life become more easy and relaxe. chatGPT is a auto machine, the information given may be wrong. It can also be very helpful for us in future but its knowledge must be read once because it can be wrong. For example, if a student wants to write on essay, then he will give only one word and he will get it whole essay.

I think that is one reason but I also think there is inherit bias towards making the training data. So it really depends on how they trained their data to geet everything working and I am not sure how much we should trust it.
