Splinterlands - What if the game tokenomics would replace the DEC with HBD stablecoin?

avatar

Splinterlands has set a mission to peg once again the DEC stablecoin in the proportion of 1,000 DEC = $1. But while it tried to put a lot of effort and weird mechanics to get there, it seems that they don't have yet a recipe or path towards getting there. As I agree that blockchain games can make use of a stablecoin within their space, why not have that HBD instead of the DEC cryptocurrency? We already have mechanics on the Hive blockchain that ensure the peg of 1 HBD = $1 worth of HIVE, so this might be a swift transition to it.

We already see HBD stablecoin embedded within future games like Ragnarok, so doing the same in Splinterlands might be a good option. Not only that this will bring benefits for Splinterlands through using a layer one toke, native to the Hive blockchain, and also with a yield feature like Savings which offers a healthy 20% APR, but will also bring benefits to the Hive blockchain by adding a new use case for HBD. We will see more action between HIVE and HBD which will create a smaller gap in the markets (even internal ones) and that would put the spotlight also on HBD which could be considered for listing by the bigger exchanges.

I think more and more games will embed HBD within their tokenomy and if Splinterlands will do the same sooner rather than later, it could only benefit them and Hive altogether. For sure there will be things to settle when moving away from DEC, but I am sure there will be ways to balance the existing funds by conversion to other assets or something like that. Also, these could be transformed in a promise to pay in HBD funds, while covering them in the future through the 20% APR returns. Some math is needed here, but if this is done I am sure will boost the entire game and Hive ecosystem at once.

What do you think? Will it be favorable for everyone to move away from DEC and replace it with HBD?

Come join the amazing world from Splinterlands!

I really like this idea! To use a more stable coin for Splinterlands could only be a win for the game. Then instead of using DEC to improve guild buildings and so, they could use SPS instead. That would give more stability and it would create demand for HBD and hive in the process. I see only winners there...

I think this is a good idea.
The (card) market would also benefit from this. Listings are in a combination of DEC and USD at the moment, while the price is payed in DEC it is valued at USD.
The fluctuation between DEC and USD makes it much harder, especially for newcomers, to work the market towards building a deck.
This idea would eliminate that problem.
I think this would stabilize a lot of the ingame economy.

Great to see another angle that such a change could cover and make things easier and healthy.

That's a good idea, but I don't think that it will be implemented in Splinterlands... Having your own stablecoin inside the game has its benefits and flaws, but I don't find that bad at all... It would be great if we have 2 stablecoins on HIVE, based on different algorithms to keep the peg! Not sure that DEC will get there, but with additional tweaking, it could...

Instead of fighting through unpopular decisions in the market and trying to peg the DEC which I doubt will happen anytime soon, using HBD instead could solve this right away and offer a solid stablecoin in the future as well. I already feel they are inventing too many in-game tokens to try to solve different things and I think they made a mess by doing so. They need to simplify this in order to focus on game development which ultimately is what brings new players and added value.

Oh, we are on the same page about the many tokens inside the game... When they added SPS and VOUCHERS, it was already too many... and I don't think that adding another one will solve the problem, either...
But... we will see... They probably have more information about their game than you and I...

It sounds like an epic idea, depending on how feasible it is, I wish to see further conversation around this. Why won’t it work?

I would say it will work, just if the Splinterlands team would want to take this road.

All I can say is that it's going to be a win-win situation. Splinterlands can finally get on a stable coin while hive will thrive from having an extra utility to HBD. I think the process and the transition might take some few challenges, but it's a brilliant idea.

Thank you! Indeed the transition will pose challenges in order to ensure DEC holders don't lose all the value, but I think that even those would gladly accept this alternative.

Let's see how it goes. This year would be a year of so many innovations on splinterlands.

It is going to be a win-win for the game and give the community, I wish we could see something like this in the future

If this could only be a DAO proposal, but it is not related to DAO SPS funds to be raised as one. But maybe it doesn't need to be a DAO proposal, will try to raise it in the next Town Hall and see an initial feedback on it.

As an idea it's not bad, I think it would make things easier; furthermore HBD has its own stability already quite strong.

Right, its strong stability will make it easily accepted by anyone, and extending its use case can only benefit it as well and also the Splinterlands team.

This sounds like a great idea but I don't think that it's going to happen soon. Though I hope that Dec will be back to its pegged value and then it can be considered as the stable coin in the game that is 1000 DEC worth 1 USD

I like this idea and it would be great to use that instead. The only issue I see is the decimal places with DEC. I think HBD goes down to 3 decimal places but I am not sure if DEC has a higher precision or not.
