Splinterlands is a game of continuous learning and perfecting

Few days ago I was writing about bringing one of my friends into Splinterlands and giving him free reign on one of my alt accounts - The benefits of bringing your friends to Splinterlands. The deal was simple - you play as you want, when you want and do whatever you want in the game while splitting the earnings 50% - 50%. He started playing slowly and as he understood basic things in the game he grew fond of it and now he plays it on a regular basis. His learning curve was pretty steep, but being motivating to catch my performances in the game he hustle a lot. And to tell you the truth he ended up knowing more about the game and required strategies than I ever learned since the game inception. This shows that learning and perfecting in Splinterlands is continuous and if anyone wants to thrive, he or she really needs to put up the work.

Card abilities

One of the first thing any newbie should learn in Splinterlands is the role of card abilities when setting the cards on the battlefield. Things are starting with the first card which better have good health and maybe a tank heal or a shield in order to take hits gracefully. Next is to pick carefully the second card which through Reach ability for example ensure that "Melee attack Units with the Reach ability may attack from the second position on the team". Going further having some Sneak monster that "Target the last Unit on the enemy Team instead of the first Unit" could make a difference in case the enemy tries to put precious cards in the last lines. These are just some example on the card abilities and why it is good to understand them in order to position the cards on the best positions on the battlefields.

Rules of combat

Understanding the rules of combat allows you to put your best formation in Splinterlands and on the best positions. Let's take an example of a game I just played:

  • Equalizer: The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health.
  • Fire & Regret: All Monsters have the Return Fire ability.

Considering the above simultaneously rules of combat, would result in a good strategy of using monster with high Damage, even if they have low Health. Just because the health of even 1 Life Monsters will be equalized to the one of the highest monster on the table and in the same time the Monster will return fire, thus having enormous Damage is one fact that will make the difference.

Special bonuses

While not directly part of a strategy to ensure the victory on the battlefield in Splinterlands, using cards that award special bonuses is a factor for more earnings. For example the use of Gold Foils, First Edition or Promo cards will add a little bit of bonus to the rewards in case of Victory. This might be overseen by many, but in time everything counts. Still, you should not be distracted by it and the primordial goal should always be to win the battle.

Battle timing

One thing that I've observed is that battling shouldn't be one over the other if you are on a losing streak. In such cases it is better to take a break and let yourself calm down and try later on. This might to do with the fact that professional players might play at certain moments of the day or due to different reasons, but if you lose battles after battles it is better to stop for a bit. Might be something to it, it might not, but I observed that this works for me instead of hammering battle after battle and continue losing.

As the Splinterlands game evolves, we need to do the same and simply keep on learning and perfecting ourselves in order to be victorious on the battlefield, but also make the most of it in this amazing GameFi ecosystem. The above knowledge examples probably are known by most of the players, but it doesn't hurt to recap them from time to time. In the same time I invite for the others to reply with what other factors contribute to victories and to good strategies in the game. I am sure there are many angles at which the battles can be approached and as we are different we tend to prioritize some more than other. That's it from my side and meeting you on the battlefield and may the bravest be victorious!

Come and join the amazing world from the Splinterlands!

About the battle timing, is it that there are times when you can play the game and we will benefit higher or what?

It is about when top players are playing vs when some weaker ones do. Timezones and timing might help avoid clashes with big titans.
