Do you have the courage or can you afford to be disliked on the Hive blockchain?

avatar

The Hive blockchain is the virtual home of many of us and while most of us find a place where our passions and hobbies are shared within the communities, an important aspect of being here is the crypto rewarding system that stays at the base of it. You put up the work, you create qualitative content, you get recognition from the other users for your efforts in pushing and expanding this blockchain, they upvote you and you get a piece of the daily rewards pool in the form of either Hive, HBD or both. Having this factored in, I must say that sometimes I saw defensive approaches when someone would get out of the line and would come with an opposite opinion from what the majority would see one thing or the other. And in some cases this would result in rewards penalties and downvotes. So a normal questions comes to mind from this perspective: Do you have the courage or can you afford to be disliked on the Hive blockchain?

Ok, maybe the word disliked is a little bit harsh in case you oppose most of the thinking that is shared around here, but if that's also not put in the right words, should will trigger a wave of criticism from all around users. Some people suffer from the happy trigger reaction, while a few might look behind the lines and truly understand the essence of one's opposing reasoning. But on the other hand, being opinionated and standing your grounds might put the light on you in comparison to tends or hundreds of thousand of content creators from here. Because in the end it is all about branding and about people trusting your character through the written articles that you publish on the Hive blockchain. And once this trust is earned, things will attract engagement and recurring upvotes.

Some quotes

John Maynard Keynes said once that “It is the essence of a successful investor that he should be eccentric, unconventional and rash in the eyes of the average opinion.” Even Warren Buffett shared that “You can’t buy what’s popular and do well.” And not the last, Linda Prevatt expressed that “The only people who never get criticized are those who never do anything.” Even if all of these views come from the financial sector, I believe they all hold meaning also when it comes to being a content creator on the Hive blockchain and maybe come with articles challenging what might be seen normal in this ecosystem in special and everywhere else in general.

Opinions

I must say that while I don't like extreme opinions or even challenging views on what I consider right and normal, I am intrigued at least to read a few lines from the works of such content creators. Through the chaos of their words I sometimes find useful ideas and opinions on things that I've never though through the presented perspective. But how many of us stop reading such content creators which made a name and brand of going against the waters. I guess not many, but if there are few whale supporters it might pay off in the end.

Moderation

Myself I am more a moderate person, calmer and one that usually goes with the flow if it makes sense. Trying to answer to the question if I have the courage or if I can afford to be disliked on the Hive blockchain, I must say that I am 50/50 on it. Why? Just because I like the environment from here, found my place based on my interest in finance and crypto and it gives me a good feeling when I am rewarding for it through posting and commenting. I guess I can say that I have the courage to be disliked around here as my finances are not depending on it, but if that would translate in meaningless upvotes or even downvotes, probably would make me not use the platform anymore. It is not the case in my regards, but I always wondered how this could play for more vocal and opposing thinkers from here.

What about you: Do you have the courage or can you afford to be disliked on the Hive blockchain?

While it's true that we all want to be accepted and belong to a community, at what cost? Should we sacrifice our true opinions and values just to be popular?

Like many social platforms, Hive has a reward system that can influence how people present and express themselves. However, being authentic to oneself also has long-term benefits, such as building a true fan base and gaining respect for integrity.

In addition, from a business perspective, brands and individuals who stand up for what they believe in often stand out and are remembered. Your post is a valuable reminder that we can't please everyone, and that's okay.

This is indeed is one pertinent question of wish most Hiveans would not be able to answer.

For me , I try to thread cautiously, I do not want to start having enemies here!!

This was a lovely read!

Thanks and indeed being moderated rather than categoric has its perks.

It's a part of the system, I have been downvoted many times. some time there were my mistakes and I learned from those mistakes, and some times there were the mistake of others and they literally don't listen to me and I can't do anything about them as they are big whales here.

What we do remains on the blockchain forever and if the trust is lost it is hard to regain it back. Mistakes can be made from both sides, what's important is to learn from them and do better.

I don't play blandish just because I want favor from anyone. Sometimes, when I feel something is not right, I react to it. One thing is we are all entitled to our opinion, and that's why we all have different faces. I've been hated several times coming out to speak where others cower. The truth is that whether you are silent or not, those that would crucify you will always look for nails and hammer for your sake. So why don't you just be yourself and enjoy the ride.

I must confess that I've been opinionated for authors way of being and on some I tend to take their publishing with less value than they might deserve. Why? Simply because of some action they've been taken with which I do not agree with. And probably it happens in many cases like this.

When you have a strong opinion about something, you should be free to express it. And people must learn that not everyone would agree with whatever they do. I would rather look deeper into the points someone is trying to make than conclude that he's trying to disagree with my points. We learn everyday. I understand your points well. Makes sense.

Complex topic, as downvotes here do reduce visibility of your posts and could scare others from upvoting or commenting on your post. One question is this just economic censorship? Or just censorship by reducing the visibility of your posts? Or both? And is this what we want in a platform which is suppose to be censorship resistant?

Quite true, looking towards economics might push us not being 100% true to ourselves. Or at least temperate things when the voices against expressed opinions get hotter and hotter.

Well in general senses, there are always people who would dislike you and this is not dependent on whether one is a good or bad person. So for me I don't really care. I care more about the input and the opinion of the right people, who I have come to terms to know, understand amen establish a relationship with.

This is a healthy and constructive way to approach things which can only lead to learning. I tend to do the same, even if I observed some adverse reactions in different contexts (even if more to other people than myself).

Exactly, the fact that the approach is balanced and liberal makes it even better.

I agree I don't like that "downvote" thing it limits people from creating more challenging content everything should always be expected what you feel when it doesn't limit the freedom of others😤

Estoy de acuerdo no me gusta esa cosa del "voto negativo" limita a las personas de crear contenido más desafiante todo debería de esperar lo que sientes siempre cuando no límite la libertad de otros 😤

Downvote removes financial incentives for more aggressive and unpopular approaches. I think bad behavior should be penalized, but not opinionated posting, even if in some cases more extreme.

Too bad it will be used to censor and limit the different options.
🤷 that's how we human beings are, we all find war, even if there is none🤷.

Lástima que será usado para censurar y limitar las diferentes opciones.
🤷 asi somos los seres humanos todo le encontramos guerra, así sea que no la haiga.🤷

It’s challenging for sure because I see and have seen numerous people completely black listed from the platform to where they don’t bother interacting anymore because their opinions went against the norm on some important issues. It’s disheartening to say the least. I know I could improve on some things and I do speak out fairly regularly on topics but some of it is that I just don’t have the time of day to argue with people. I also pick my battles, for example you never argue with a vegan because it’s like a religious cult. You will never win, so why bother? Lol. That was a generalization for sure, most vegans here on hive seem like good normal people but vegans out in the public spaces are often very outspoken and a common occurrence these days that people relate to experiencing. Just wanted to put that disclaimer :D

I remember my first steps on Steemit (HF to Hive now) when I did a lot of mistakes by not knowing rules and simply hunting for rewards. In some cases I got blacklisted without notice, so I think the system can be improved in such cases.

Haha ya thankfully I was never lumped into a blacklist but I was a bit more tame in the Steem days. I also have tried to be cognizant of the fact that things you put on the blockchain are permanent.

Hmm
This is a very big question. Well, I don't want that. Having people who dislike me won't gain me anything but put me in some deep shit. Also, I wouldn't try to impress people because I want them to be my friends...lol
