LOH 142 / No monsters under the bed, but...

( EN / DE )

... inside the TV !

I didn't know anything like monsters under the bed as a child. Well, on the one hand, this may be due to the fact that the bed of my childhood was fixed in a wall niche and had no free space underneath. Or maybe because our dog always slept in my in front of my bed?

I think the first time that I felt real fear was at the age of 11 or 12 years. I had a best friend at that time, Karin, and our parents also got along very well, which is why we saw each other often.

One evening it happened that the parents were out together and Karin and I were alone at home. (Not completely alone, because the grandparents were on the first floor, but in our area alone).

And on the television ran by chance FRANKENSTEIN ! We of course, even if we knew we should not, have daringly decided to watch the movie. Black and white and scary, but we were so brave!
Haha. Then somewhere in the film there is a scene with an open balcony door and a white curtain blowing in the wind.
Karin and I, in the summer in my parents' living room...... with the balcony door open and the curtain moving slightly!!!!!!

That was too much for our young souls. We immediately turned off the TV, closed the balcony door and ran into the children's room, hiding ourselves under the covers to sing children's songs to each other.

We didn't tell anyone what we had experienced, because we had done something forbidden. And, well, I think in a way we both suffered a small trauma.

Of course, we often laughed about it later, but the fact is, to this day, both of us have never watched the movie Frankenstein again, although we decided several times that we would do it one day for overcoming our trauma ;-) Somehow we always managed to avoid it.
And we both do not like horror movies or books tat all. All the little childhood experiences shape our adult life very much, so if I think about it, even today I do not like to sleep with an open balcony door ;-) Haha, have to ask Karin, if she does!

This was my contribution to the LOH Contest #142 wich asks:
Is there anything you see inside of yourself you're not sure of?
and/or
What is that one childhood fear you have not told anyone yet?

how appropriate that the unspash photo used for this post is from a photographer called Frank Okay ;-)

Anytime I'm alone and I happen to see the curtains moving slightly, I just start panicking, even though I'm fully aware that there's nothing there. My child fear though..
You and your friend watching a horror 😱 movie as small as you both were, was quite daring 🤐.

At first I thought you would talk about the movie Polstergeist, hahaha. Also here we agree, the only horror story I've been able to read and see has been Bram Stoker's Dracula. 😅

I can only imagine the extent of fear you both had during that time😅 Even at my age, I couldn't watch or read anything horror or even slightly scary, lol!

Our imaginations can run wild for sure, and even more so as a child! I think watching it now might be a ton of fun especially if you turn it into a movie party where there's no chance of being alone!
🤗💜 Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day! !LADY

Wow.. It is scary and it made me giggle to 😁 imagine you 2 Girls watching Frankenstain and the curtain starting to dance 😱 OMG
Being young we don’t always realize the consequences and I wasn't allowed to watch horror but I also did it once at a friends house.
My 1st horror was Freddie Crueger the one who came to kill kids in their sleep.
I swear I had nightmares for YEARS after that 😁 LMAO
And my mom like... Now do you understand why we didn't want you to watch movies like that?

Ohh YEEES... I did.

And I never did it again.. Until I met a boyfriend who loved horror but I was older so it was all good.

Thank you for sharing your story and I promise never to sneak up on you dressed like Frankenstain 😜 Buwahahaha
