I Tried The 3Speak Mobile App For The First Time
It's been a few days since I read that 3speak now has a mobile application but it's only now that I had the chance to explore it. I was actually struggling to think what topic to write about and we know that videos are a great way of sharing our thoughts and creativity. Thanks to 3speak, we have that platform available here on Hive.
The app is developed by @sagarkothari88 and hands down, the experience had been seamless so far. If you want to learn more about the app, you can check him out: Download 3Speak app from Google Play Store Now. The app is also available for iPhone users.
Experiencing the app.
So I looked up the app at the Google Play Store and got this. 👉
The sign in was easy because it supports log in via the Hive Keychain which is also very intuitive.
- Type in your Hive username on the text box.
- Tap the Hive Keychain icon
- The Hive Keychain app will pop up. Choose session validity (from 1 hour to up to 1 month).
Inside the app.
I am not really sure what the default videos are on the homescreen - trending perhaps? At the upper right corner is the menu option (3 bars icon). On it, there's:
My Videos - gives you a snapshot of what's happening on the videos you are uploading (in encoding process, ready to post, already posted, failed to encode)
3speak shorts - opens up shared shorts (not yours) on the platform
Home - home screen
First Uploads
Trending Content
New Content
Communities
Leaderboard
Settings - change the theme (dark mode/light mode), video resolution, Change Hive APi node
Important Links
Upvoting other people's content is also easy. Just click on the video and find the "thumbs up" icon. You will again be redirected to the Hive Keychain for permission for this action so viewing the video will be interrupted.
Uploading Videos
It was very easy and fast.
- Click on the upload icon which can be found at the bottom of the screen (there's also one at the top-right-hand corner).
- Choose which one you want to upload - 3speak short or 3speak video
- Wait for the encoding process to finish and just click next.
- Add Video Title and description
- Add relevant tags
- Change the cover photo if desired.

My thoughts and humble feedback.
The video has been posted and could be seen in other Hive front ends easily. However, on the app itself, I could not view it. If I would go to My Videos the only option there right now is to change the thumbnail.
My Videos. I know this app is still on the initial stages so there's a lot to expect. Hopefully, being able to (re)view your own content in a "Profile"/My videos page would be one of them.
Feeds I also hope there's an option to sort videos based on my following? I know there's an option to view communities videos but other ways to sort the feed would be great.
Wallet So far, I have not seen a wallet option and how to claim the rewards at payout time.
Upvoting. As mentioned above, the Hive Keychain up will pop up when you tap the upvote icon. It interrupts video viewing. Not sure if I did something wrong with my permissions, but that's the experience so far.
Tags. Not sure if it was a mistake on my side while adding the tags, but I noticed that after posting only the 2 default tags (#threespeak and #mobile) were published

All in all, I am thankful that there is a development happening for the 3speak mobile application. It will encourage more users to explore the platform since most of us almost always use the mobile phones when interacting on Hive. (At least I do - I would usually make a full blog post using my mobile). The 3speak mobile app gives me another option to unleash my thoughts in video format.

Ohh that's cool, tita. I only tried 3speak on my laptop. Maybe I will download that on my phone too. Your uploaded videos are amazing.
We already have My Videos section in the app. Open side menu > My Videos.
Yes. This is on my to-do list. We'll have this in near future.
Wallet at the moment is a NO. Please use hive-keychain app.
3Speak mobile app is meant for video streaming & uploading.
What didn't work for you? Please elaborate with screenshots.
Upload Video > Set Title Description > Set Tags, Select Community > Save
As far as I understand, you may have missed setting the tags.
Hi @sagarkothari88 here's a screen grab of me trying to upvote. It goes to Hive Keychain and I need to go back to the 3speak app to continue viewing. Please also note that this upvote process failed.
Here's my second attempt to upvote, same thing - it goes to hive keychain while upvoting. This one as you can see was successful. Please note both were attempted at close intervals. I have just logged in the 3speak app.
Yes, I see that, but I cannot play the videos. I only have the option to change thumbnail when I click on the video.
I see. Play videos from MyVideos section. Added to my to-do list.
