Two Years !

I woke up this morning to a nice notification from Hivebuzz..... it's my 2nd Hive Birthday !

It doesn't feel like two years.

As I recall, I signed up on the evening of Christmas Eve two years ago after getting back from whatever family function I'd been to that day. Then I spent the rest of that Christmas break exploring what I could do here. Or should I say, blundering around Hive finding all kinds of fascinating things and making all kinds of n00b mistakes 😁

So how have I done after two years of being here ? Well, in boring financial terms, I've grown my account to about 7500 HP and 1400 HBD. But that's really subsidiary to the main achievements.

First and foremost, I've found awesome new friends here, and with so many of you being in different countries all around the world, it's really opened my eyes to both the cultural differences, and the human similarities in the way we live our lives.

Being on Hive has made me realise how incredibly toxic the legacy social media sites have become. It's been a joy to be able to join the communities I want and have some control over what I see rather than being treated as a product to be shown the adverts and awful content determined by a centralised monopoly.

Hive has also really helped me develop my creative writing skills. I know I've still got a long way to go, but I like to think I'm improving all the time. Just as importantly, it's allowed me to give concrete form to all the stories that have been rattling around inside my head trying to get out for so long !

So for all these things... thank you Hive, and thank you all my Hive Friends 😀

Congratulations!

It is true indeed that once you get on Hive traditional social media seems so 💩 and fake.

I'm almost six on Hive and it's already part of my life. Enjoy your journey!

Thank you ! I'm definitely enjoying it so far 😀 There are always new things to find out about, and many of the posts here are more creative than anything found on legacy social media.

Congratulations friend, really I can't believe you are just two years on hive, it feels like you've been here all along. And to think that I'm actually some days older than you! WOW

I hope you continue to have more pleasure and beautiful memories on hive ❤️.

Thank you ! It definitely feels like longer than it has been, but it's a lot of fun being here, and I'm learning so much, so it still feels like the start of an awesome journey of discovery 😀

Hey that's deadly @alonicus

You've done amazing in the past two years! Your writing is amazing, and it's great that we can all earn some experience in a fun and exciting way, and in a social setting!

You're right, and I came to the same conclusion too since joining here. Social media was never really my cup of tea, but since being here I realised it's not social media, it's the platforms themselves.

I don't know what it is about being here, but I feel like I am much more open. Maybe that's from sharing fiction, which is - as I've heard - one of the hardest things people can do. I think I was here about 3-4 months before actually writing any fiction, but when I did it became so much easier over the following 2 years.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you ! I've been amazed at how little I miss Facebook 😀 I still have to go there once or twice a week to check for business messages and updates from my D&D group, but it's a 5-minute check, not hours of scrolling.

I think you're right about sharing creative writing. It's very much opening up our inner thoughts and hoping people aren't harsh about it. But seeing the way you write has been a great inspiration and helped give me the confidence to share settings that have mostly been private for years.

Hopefully in the New Year I can find a bit more time to post - the run-up to Christmas is always crazy in e-commerce, and I've got at least a couple of stories I want to get down in concrete form. I like the way you've been using chapters with multiple posts for each, I'll probably steal that 😁

Yeah, I only use it for messenger and keeping in touch with people. I wish they'd all just join here so I wouldn't need to use any of that stuff anymore haha

That's the thing, it's allowing people to read the innermost workings of the mind. Especially when it's potentially a first draft, and there are mistakes here and there that we've missed before posting.

Oh, steal away, it looks pretty neat too, and gives it a bit more professional look I think, the only thing I don't do is link each previous post with the next one as it releases. To be fair though, currently, the body of the links is typically longer than the body of content. It's such a hectic time all around, it's funny though that you're going to be posting more as I start posting less. Once I get the yearly posting badge I'm going to cut down to 3 or so posts a week, so I can focus more on reading while here/ a few other endeavors I want to spend some more time doing.

I want to get back into model making, animating, making some videos, and doing some more cover videos too, as well as a few other things I just haven't had time to do with the daily posting.

Thank you ! I definitely agree about growing the community. It definitely seems to be a "hard sell" to people comfortable with legacy social media, but I'm sure we can work out a selection of approaches that can work for various types of people. I have a feeling that what we need to do is base it on matching people with applications they find really useful rather than trying to use the crypto angle.
