Saturday Savers 2023 Progress Report Week 23

Welcome to this week's #SaturdaySavers update ! Actually, I kind of missed Saturday (spent all day rebuilding a set of carburettors), which is why I'm posting this at around 2.30am, just into Sunday.

If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.

I'll start with this week's table of growth;

The main thing I've done is update some of my goals, based on feedback from asking what people thought last week. The changed goals are highlighted in orange on the graph.

I'm still being cautious, because so far this year I've been lucky enough to be able to pile some fiat into Hive, but with the economic situation here in the UK tightening I'm not sure how long I'll be able to carry on doing that.

• Hive Power - I'm increasing the goal from 2500 to 4500. This assumes I'll still be able to put some fiat in, just not as much as before. It also assumes I'll be able to post a little more to maintain author rewards.
• HBD - increased from 650 to 900. This one's a bit of a stab in the dark ! The original plan was to convert HIVE to HBD when the price was high. During the early part of the year, I was transferring in blocks of 50 HIVE any time I could get more than about 21.5 HBD per HIVE. I'm not convinced HIVE will get to that price point again this year, so the plan now is that when I can afford to put fiat directly into the HIVE ecosystem, some of it will go directly into HBD.
• EDS - I've dropped the goal slightly to 42, which is a direct correlation to how I'm doing so far this year. I might adjust it again in 3 months once I see what impact my delegation to @eds-vote has.
• This one's a bit cheeky - since I hit Dolphin on the last HPUD, I've edited the goal to change it from % of Dolphin to % of Orca. I'm under absolutely no illusion that getting to Orca is going to be a multi-year project. Or a lottery win.....

Looking at the bigger picture, crypto has taken a hell of a hit this week. I've got my own theories about what's going on, but they're very geopolitical and probably controversial, so it's probably not a good idea to talk about them here !

But there is a (probably rhetorical) question I've got about it. The target of the US authorities appears to be centralised exchanges with a strong US presence and lots of money.

Hive is decentralised, not centralised. It isn't sitting on billions of dollars worth of funds that the Fed could try to appropriate. It doesn't have a defined US-based CEO who could be dragged in front of Congress or off to Guantanamo Bay.

So why has HIVE dropped so hard when it is probably the cryptocurrency that's least vulnerable to the ongoing shenanigans ? Hopefully it'll recover soon, although preferably not before I can earn some fiat to put into it ;)
