Waking up the day after the HF... and everything works!

Waking up after the Hard Fork.jpg

As the latest Hard Fork suggests with its number 26, it's not the first Hard Fork that we witnessed on this chain. I started on the old chain in March 2018 with my first posts. I have seen many Hard Forks since and definitely not all of them were done so smoothly.

In the past, Hard Forks were a big unknown

During the first years, I have to admit that I didn't understand everything about this blockchain. I could either post and comment or I couldn't. That was about the extend of my understanding. With each hard fork, new things were introduced and some were later modified again. What all the early Hard Forks had in common when I got started, was that you never knew how things would go during the transition.

Once the blockchain was not reachable for close to a week. Witnesses had to send one software version after the other until things became stable again. I believe some people even quit on hive because of that.

Then sometimes the tools we were using, simply stopped working after the hard fork. Since developers were always few in numbers, the services were often never restored.

Whenever there was a hardfork planned, it was common sense to leave your computer for a couple of days and not try to do anything on hive...

How things have changed!

This time around ,I was on hive and I didn't even realize that the hard fork went through! It's amazing how, with every hard fork, with every issue, the team of developers and witnesses manage to pre-test the changes and make sure that everything is working properly before the new software is rolled out.

I can only say that Hive is becoming more and more professional over time. Even without a central entity directing everything, it's possible that a decentralized community manages to get better and better over time....

I would like to thank all the people involved in this hard fork for the great work they have been doing and for making our blockchain even better !

I'm happy everything worked for you! I had some snags. 🙁 With some help though today, I think things are back up and running. I'll try to write a proper post when I can. Here's a little test: !LUV

I can imagine that according to the changes in the software, some scripts don't work anymore. I was actually very happy that my dividend script still worked lol.

I hear you. LUV and Hivebits struggled mightily, then flat out stopped. Another dev stepped in and gave me a simple fix, and now things are back (pretty sure). I plan to write up a proper post in the next day or two (and likely include the LUV token I just gave you as an example if that's ok).

Nice to see that !LUV service works again!
I hope it will last as I like to share it with people in the comment section... :)

I have no idea what a hard fork is. I carried on as normal and although some stats took a long time to appear in my account, I had no problems.

That's exactly what I mean. In the past it wasn't seldom to have the blockchain offline for several days when a hardfork occured. There was one last week and we hardly noticed:-)

Since the HF everything seems to be working properly. I noticed hive-engine have to repeat orders, before it's accepted !

I haven't noticed that. I'm using more tribaldex and didn't have any problems so far.

It was not all rosy, but I'm glad that at least it worked for general public. The problems include Pinmapple spam ming comments, people started using new RC delegations sometimes in an unexpected way, there is also a problem with backup witness schedule that will require another hardfork soon. But it only shows the importance of testing, so maybe next time we will get more people interested in playing on mirrornet before the hardfork :o)

It's definitely a big undertaking to change the code of the blockchain and errors manifest in the most unexpected places. It's already great to have a mirrornet :-)

I saw that you have noise.cash too... do you know about the new noise.app? If not, check it here https://noise.app/Jane1289.. Only an invitation link can allow you to join there..
The fork was probably the first one I encountered here.

I've seen people writing about noise.app but I haven't started using it. Thanks for the remainder.

Everything was working fine when I visited Hive at night after the hardfork. I am glad that everything is working out even if not all the tools were available for people.

It's pretty normal that some tools stop working when the code changes but for the average user, it was pretty smooth I believe.

I was talking about RC delegations not working so it was about a new feature added but not implemented at the launch.

Hmm I have some issues with my "Lists" under PeakD though. They don't seem to update since 3 days ago. Now my workaround is to use the "Following Feed".
