The key to success on Hive - Make your audience feel important

avatar

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Today, I have read a post by my friend Zoltan (@ph1102) where he speaks about what many authors feel on hive: „why nobody reads my posts“.

I think it's not easy to stand out on Hive but I believe that a lot of people have the wrong mindset about content creation. They believe that they just need to create a post and get the upvotes. In my opinion this is only half the reality. Every author should invest some of his energy to make his audience feel important. This is paramount to make sure that people come back to their posts and to build lasting relationships on Hive. It's not that complicated because hive gives us all the necessary tools to do so...

Everything requires time and connection with other people. It is not something that happens from one day to the next, choosing a topic that you are passionate about and interacting with other HIVE users. If you give you receive, there are many things that can be contributed here.

I agree, unfortunately a lot of people have a mindset that only includes receiving and not giving. I find it very frustrating when I comment on a post and not even get an answer to it. I believe it's the same for most of us.

I answered from another author: Find something you like, keep posting enthusiastically, and you'll start meeting like-minded people and slowly build emotional connections. This is the easier way to go in my opinion.

The most important thing in my opinion is to search the interaction. Be it while commenting on other people's posts or on your own posts. Each comment is a chance to build a relationship. In the long run it's these relationships that will define the success we have on hive.

Yes, interpersonal relationships are a long and thought-provoking affair, and the quality of the comments is also quite important.

You know the word "important" in the post title can turn into "impotent" if you ignore your audience.

I respond to every comment (as soon as I see it), except for those one or two word comments where the writer is just chasing a comment count and isn't really looking for true engagement.

I LIKE THIS! Such a great catch! :) :)

I think it's great practice to try to answer every comment within 24hours. I believe that when I leave a comment and then the author doesn't answer it's really like he doesn't care and I will probably not come back to his posts again.

I tend to answer the low quality comments by a low quality answer ;-)

Thanks for the mention! It's nice to see that my post has inspired you to record a rant... But, I would call it an "educational rant" as it is!

Thanks for the inspiration :-). I didn't plan to make a rant but I agree that it came through like one.

The key is to engage. Your other posts you were talking on 3 speak about Splinterlands. It shows your commitment and willingness to interact !

I totally agree with you. Engagement is the key for building relationships on hive. Each comment is an opportunity to interact with somebody.

I agree. The engagement is undervalued and I think people should always respond to the comments. Building relationships is very important on this social blockchain.

I think that you are very well placed in evaluating who answers comments and who doesnt. In the long run you rather leave your comments where you feel that they are appreciated I believe...

Great video, I really appreciate you highlighting the thoughts from the side of people leaving comments and supporting the community.

I agree with you that those are good habits to follow about engaging with those leaving comments. I'm surprised that people don't engage more.

Honestly, I feel a bit sorry for the people who haven't understood this basic behaviour. They spend a lot of time creating great posts and then they don't care or at least they don't seem to care about the people who actually read and commented their posts...

yeah, it's crazy! all the hard-work they have done and lose out on growing their account by ignoring those who engage. I don't understand it.

Thanks for the informative videos, they are helping steer newbies like me in the right direction. It is appreciated. 🙂

I appreciate your comments and upvotes. I will sometimes not press the upvote when I am below 80% voting power. At .001 it stops having any payout so I let it build back up. I do leave tips when I have some available.

I really appreciate all the people who take the time to leave comments on my posts. I don't have that much time for leaving comments on other people's posts so when I do it, it's great to see some appreciation when people answer my comments :-)

Yes I totally agree with your sharing. I always take the effort to reply to all the meaningful comments. I think we can go one step further to read some of the posts from the users that have commented in ours, and if we like their posts, we could also upvote or leave a comment in their posts too.

That's exactly how realtionships grow on hive. Somebody comes to comment on your post, you interact with him and then maybe you check out his posts as well and once this happens a couple of times, it's the start of a relationship :-)

I think engaging with your audience by answering comments is key to building your presence on any social media network. The good thing with Hive is that you get rewarded for doing so, both directly from Hive and by keeping your audience engaged.

As a new member I'm trying to spend some of my time creating content and some of it engaging on other people's posts. If I want people to engage with me I think it's only sensible that I try and engage with them.

It's a good idea to try to engage as much as possible when you start on Hive. At the beginning it can seem a bit frustrating because you will get hardly any interaction on your own posts. The more you interact with others the more you will see that they come to check your posts as well.
