It's interesting to read the perspective from outside !

I've lived in the UK all my life, and I'd say the perception you have would have been spot-on 20 years ago. Sadly, it's a bit different now ! It's certainly not the safe and secure country it used to be, and there is massive social tension and unrest. Hopefully things will improve eventually, because it's a beautiful country with a lot still going for it.
