I don't like to receive calls at all, unless they are from close family. I find calls intrusive most times. Text and email (preferably email) are the best way. Not only do these take less time to process, but they allow me to read or respond at a convenient time. That's especially true for email. A text might require a more timely response.
Plus, as your friends wisely advise, when it's in writing there is not doubt about intention, or what has been said.

Your points are the exact reason I'm more of a text person now 😅. I'd rather be texted than called... And as for the salary, I resigned while my sanity was still intact 😂.
