Counselors need to show respect to those they're helping. Harsh words have no place in counseling—instead, choose kind, constructive ones over rude or hurtful ones. Respect also comes through how we act while talking: disrespectful gestures can push people away, make them doubt your words, and cause them to shut down and hide their true feelings.
