In Pakistan, people take cough syrups for years. You aren't gonna believe but we have tried so many times to guide Patients but they are their own doctor. The most selling cough syrup's are:
For adults- Acefyl, Bronochol, Pulmonol & Hydryllin
For Kids- Coferb & 1 more that I can't remember now.
Hydryllin is loved by old age people or stressed people due to its honey sugary flavour, Plus Hydryllin DM act as sleeping drug so people also misuse syrup.

TB is very common in Pakistan. Even if a person is coughing for months, he or she will not go to doctors due to old people concept which is Chest Blockage 😅. Mtlb agla khansi kr kr Kai mar Raha hai or inlogo ko Muscus (Resha) lag Raha hai.
A person can also be paralyzed if TB is at serious stage

In Pakistan, diagnosis and treatment are available free

A little cost is required by the patient like medicines, drips, surgical stuff, food, accomodations and many more. In 2016, my relative spend 1.5 - 2.5 lakh in total to recover. But still yeah in many countries, it's expensive.
