Yeah, Juan Perez was told to explore further up north from the Spanish colony where California is now. He came into contact with the Indigenous Haida I believe years before Captain Cook and the HMS Discovery found evidence of Spanish artifacts like eating utensils, nails, small metal items circulating amongst the Haida.
Nails seemed to be popular and the Discovery's crew traded nails for goods.
