Hi fellow Mages!
It is your boy PurpleBat and I bring you a review of all new monsters in the RiftWatchers expansion for Water Splinter! I hope that this will help you with building your Splinterlands decks for the future.
So let's get started!
Notice that all this new monsters does cost a lot of mana so it will be hard to get them into some teams with lower mana rulesets. Splinterlands devs announced that they would increase mana caps even for the Bronze league. We will see how that will work and how that will affect some older cards that are very cheap and that are meant for low mana rulesets.
Coastal Nymph - is a really expensive common card with decent damage. My only problem is that this card is a bit slow, even when played with Kelya. There are some way better cards in the Water Splinter. What I like on this card is Affliction ability as this is something what Water splinter misses at the moment.
The bad thing is that even though it has Affliction it has Scatter so you can't really plan that Affliction will hit the target that you want to, even if your opponent is using Taunt. The only thing that could save this card is the big mana pool ruleset in the Bronze league where it has decent damage(but not for 9 mana). Otherwise, I see this card as very cheap and I will use that situation to get a MAX copy of it.
Lemell Refugee - is a really interesting monster even though a bit weird at the same time. The attack is really good, even in the Bronze league. Void Armor is good as it will work well against magic attacks, especially with Merdaali Guardian as support. On a higher level, it gets Enrage which is not really useful.
Why Enrage is not useful? Well, if you look at Diemonshark he got some nice armor and when attacked with the magic attack he will get enraged and he will still have his armor to protect him from melee and ranged attacks. With Lemell Refugee the problem is that you need to take out armor first to get enrage benefit. That means Merdaali Guardian is not that useful and you need to use Scavo Hierling instead. Where I see an opening is when played with the new Dragon summoner that will provide Phase ability. Those evade when enraged could be huge!!
Sea Stalker - I am not sure if this card is amazing or just average. Snipe ability is interesting but it is not my style. I like Sneak or attacking the first target. With Snipe I am never sure where my attacks will end. Also, you need at least one more Snipe attacker in your team for this tactics to be efficient and I don't see any good snipers in Chaos Legion expansion for Water Splinter.
Camouflage is something that I really like as you monster can stay protected through whole game. Cleanse is something that is useful as there are not many cleansers in the Water team and this "big" cleanser will be amazing for those 99 mana matches. Headwins is always good but it is only for Diamond and beyond. I must say that I like attack a lot as it can do a lot of damage especially if your snipe position is not protected with armor. Not a bad card to have in your decks, still it is not amazing either.
Runemarcer Kye - A legendary card of Riftwatchers expansion for Water Splinter. I would say, not what I have expected but it is certainly what Water splinter needs in terms of weakness in Earthquake ruleset. Many people may fail to notice that but Flying is really good on this card. 10 mana is weakness because of Giant Killer ability but it is reasonable because of its Life Leech ability.
Kye shines on the max level with 4 magic damage which means it will steal 2 health every round. This can go out of the control very quickly and we could see some high health numbers here. Amplify is not amazing but is good to have. There are not many monsters that could benefit from this except maybe Wave Brood. Overall, a nice card that I would like to put into my deck.
This was short review of upcoming cards in Riftwatchers expansion for Water Splinter. Honestly, those cards are not that amazing but I get it. Water Splinter seems like most powerful one at the moment so some balance should be expected. Even though, some of this cards could be very good in synergy with other Modern cards. I like Lemell and Kye the most. Artwork is also amazing so big thanks to Splinterlands Art Team!
It is the perfect time to buy some cards and rebuild your deck. Packs are not selling as fast as expected so prices are stable. I expect them to go down even more once we sell more packs.
