I'm sorry I confused your home-courtly... I was looking at the comments and due to the India-United account assumed that it was related to your location. But, as you said, there is a lot of cultural and economic overlap between the two.

Also interesting that you brought up you Dad wanting you to have a military career. My parents did the opposite - they left the country before the possibility of me getting drafted. And I'm grateful for that - I am also very anti-authoritarian by nature, and will not do anything that conflicts with my moral compass, or diminishes my agency.

I'm glad that this post generated the engagement it deserves, because most of us can relate to the rat-race, fulfilling expectations, and chasing status. "Breaking the Idol of Ego" can apply to so many flawed ego-driven behaviors we have. Its very universal.
