It is a beautiful coin. When he was shot, the nation was stunned. I was in high school and they announced it over the loudspeaker. I don't remember if we were let out early or not, but the emotional impact of that young president being murdered in the prime of his life was powerful. The JFK assassination for many people in the U.S. became a turning point, sort of a loss of innocence. We were already disillusioned by the fiasco at Bay of Pigs, and by the burgeoning Vietnam War. But still, this president and his family held a spell over much of the country. The shots that killed him struck all of us in a way.

Sorry for the long response...my mind goes back to those days.
